- Take a ride on BMW’s high-end S1000RR superbike with Executive Editor Zack Courts as he screams in style to the office.
--
It’s no secret we’re always trying to get our staff to work a little harder. Especially the ones that always seem to have too much to say. “Write it down!” we always shout at each other. Zack Courts is a classic case, always arriving to office after his commute with a bunch of opinions about the bike he’s riding. Too much this, not enough that, and occasionally has some decent insights that we thought might help consumers or entertain enthusiasts.
So we strapped a camera and microphone to his helmet and told him to turn it on when he leaves his house. A lot of him talking in his helmet is complaining about drivers, yelling at red lights, and wondering why billboards aren’t more expensive. But sometimes he actually talks about the bike, and those are the parts we keep. Got a bike you would like to see discussed? Let us know and we’ll send him home on that one next.

The reason you commute on a sportbike: it's fun. Whether you're late for work, or you had a bad day. The bike's there for you to save the day and make you smile.
I test rode this bike at a BMW demo show with a bunch of other riders a couple of months ago. I rode it for about 20-25 minutes & I may have only experienced 35% of what this bike has to offer. This motorcycle is seriously so technical that it is beyond my skill set to ride it because of its electronics aides & other packages. It truly is the epitome of the a superbike.
That one dog crossing the street only had three legs
Yeah me too, I was like hay that dog has only three legs...
I feel sorry for that dog
got to that point and was like...'3 legged dog?' had to rewind and check.
Patrick Parker at least it appears to have a responsible owner. Many dogs have it worse.
me too, probably we've seen how humans can treat each other badly and we feel sick of it
Awarded +8000 extra cool points for the S2000 and the Evo at 1:10. Zack, my man, you rock. Thank you, as usual, for the fun content
I already rode on 2017 S1000RR for 3000 km. It is a great machine. One of the most comfortable superbike. Yeah it's kinda heavy, but when you ride it, it doesn't feel that heavy.
Yes, the frame is hot, but you don't touch them. The real place where you can feel the heat of the engine is actually at your left feet. The heat melt down some of my shoe soles and sometimes burn my ankle if I stuck on heavy traffic.
But, it is a great superbike for commuting.
Iqbal Hakeem same felling my friend because the fan throw air this way
Iqbal, agree. Its the left side just above the ankle. I wear midcut riding shoes, so if speed is under 80kmh you can feel the heat. Chassis is hot too. My knee got burned before. Solved the problem with carbon fibre frame protectors. Its heavy as you say & parking in tight spaces can be a nuisance. But other than that its really a fantastic machine! Super smooth & so easy to ride despite being 200hp!
I'm just happy to have made the survey for channels people have subscribed to! ;)
Hey chase i am your long time subscriber heres to mention a thing or two .. Whenever you do another bike review from now on please mention if the seat of the bike is soft or hard on the scale of 1 to 10 .. 1 being softest and 10 being harshest or hardest and also mention the engine heat that the bike produces.. thank you for the work you are doing ... its phenomenal ... THANKS ALOT
3 legged dog at 3:56.
i just love mc commute, its quite simple and practical things you say is what we people want to hear. please do more videos i just love this.
"Don't ever ever do that". Hahaha I can't count how many times I've said that inside my helmet too.
Having owned the slower and taller version of this bike for 26000 miles, I can't wait to own my own S1000RR and see what BMW has planned for the next iteration. Great video as usual Zack.
your bike is no way slower. Its the same as s1000rr with 12k rpm. been a big fan of your track riding.
what year did you own that was "slower and taller?"
pretty sure he meant an S1000R (single R) or an s1000XR
MrSaintCharles yeah it's the XR
Its cost like 16k right , can anyone please tell me what it will cost me out the shop in California ? Like after all the hidden charges and taxes and stuff ? Thanks
Someone has the speed crazies! Excellent review, nary a missed wheelie opportunity. Keep em coming please this was a gem.
I commute on my zx10r 3 to 4 days a week to and from work, love it.
Yea, I commute on a 675R almost every day, love it. It puts a smile on my face twice a day. Not sure why some don't understand. Do people commute in their 400hp+ sports cars? Why is that not questioned?
Yep 45min ride, one way, on a 18 rr. It changes me from pissed off at work, to happy and smiling by the time I get home.
Zack you’re commutes are fucking awesome don’t change it!
This is such an amazing motorcycle.
I commute on my 2017 s1000RR - love it! I have a Ducti Multi before that couldn't handle all year round weather and kept breaking, 4K miles on the BMW and no issues at all. Only thing I have noticed is a little vibe in handlebars if sat on long motorway journey, compared with my old 2016 Multi, but to be expected really.
S1000RR , my dream bike! This video is a treat
I hope they take this "old" design & stick a 600cc engine in it :D
I miss the looks already :(
Bmw wouldn’t go backwards lol
I hope that never happens
@@ur2slob724 there were rumors of it years ago but it’s Bmw, they wouldn’t go backwards nor do they even care about a 600 class lol the s1000rr is debatably the ultimate all around sport bike
@@MADLITS1K no need for debate I love mine it’s the best bike ever made 😂
Could compete with the RS660?
please please please do the S1000R next! I love your content, keep it up!
Excellent video! As always I appreciate the detail Zack goes into on all the models he rides. Loved the survey as well, just completed it! I'm a little bummed out I can't participate in the sweepstakes a resident of Canada.
I LOVE my 18 !!
Great Video
Most comfortable supersport i've ever ridden ~ amen
Great garage right there! A evo x and a s2000!
Great bike. I rode the CSS bike this year, and I am really liking what BMW has to offer!
that was an awesome commute, loved it, but i would love to see S1000R as well.
I was watching your video and I woke up the next morning thank you for that...😊😊😊😊
I've enjoyed these reviews for a while now - Thanks! Curious - is it really a 20 minute commute to work, or do you just adjust the route/edit to get that duration? #CommuteJealousy
I love your videos please do one on the S1000r!! Thanks
Awesome bike! Looking forward seeing the 18 model review..
All time favourite A-semitrical head lights
With all the electronics 😘😘😘👌👌❤️
Great video, really good to get a perspective on sport bike comfort. Can you do one with the gsx r 750 and Cbr 600r?
On the topic of ergos, I own a 2011 S1000rr and i still hold that it is one of the most comfortable 1000cc super sports. While it is canted forward like you would expect, the position isn’t uncomfortable and through riding, one can get very accustomed to it. An option available for this bike, if you are interested, is putting Heli-Bar Risers that raise the clip ons just a bit so it’s not as much pressure on your wrist. Overall this bike in either generation is sublime and you can’t go wrong with it as far as comfort. And don’t get me started on the ridiculous power loll.
I have a 17, yes it’s heavy, yes the frame burns me in traffic, and yes it isn’t the sexiest super sport. But I can ride it for hours comfortably ( great seat ) and flick on the cruise control when the right hand goes numb.
For anyone commenting about commuting on supersports, not being made for it, you can't do it and so on, i commute on my 2017 R6 daily, been doing it for over 7 years on a 2002 Ninja 636. It's just a matter of getting used to it and coming to a compromise. Ideal? Probably not, there's definitively more comfortable bikes for commuting but hell nothing beats the fun of a supersport IMO
Loved your choice of cars...
Zack, love seeing these notificaitons pop up. Forgot to suggest some things in the survey though - can you focus a little more on what makes each bike different from any other bike? Additionally, is there a 'long way' you can take to work?
Awesome video, beautiful bike, and let's hear it for the determined three-legged dog at 3:54! :-)
Great bike. Love my 2015. The frame rails do get hot on a commute especially sitting at stop lights but it's comfortable with leathers. I hate riding in jeans.
Analog gauges are way better than any tft screen...
Zack, what a job you've got.
Great vid! What helmet cam do you use?
12:13 that crazy laugh though😂😂
''US residents eligible for prizes'', well that sucks about the survey,.but i do enjoy watching the videos you produce. please keep them coming!
That 3 legged dog though! 😂
I'd love to see something like taking the Daytona 675 the best of it's time and really seeing how it compares in riding to the newer bikes. Sometimes newer isn't always better.
That throttle roll-on giggle. Haha! Great video, Zack! When are you gonna commit the moto-jouralist sin and get one for yourself?
The three legged dog was my favorite part.
I would like to see you ride the Yamaha mt/fz10sp.
I commute on my zx9r everyday super fast super comfortable just awesome and I have no problems.
Are we just going to ignore the three legged dog at 3:50? lol dude was working to get across the street. poor guy :"(
spent $5000 on a k6 gsxr 1000. last of the raw bikes. mainly commute with long highway miles to work and back home. im 5'11'' and find it fairly comfortable unless i ride around city with alot of stop and go's my wrists will start to strain, but overall happy with the bike.
k5/6 gsxr 1000 was what the s1000rr was engineered from so the bmw has better specs but weighs more because of the rider aids. am saving up for one now :D
My favourite motorcycle ever built...
Would love to hear your comparison with the single r
My favourite Super sportbike. I wish I could ride this bike one day.
12:25 "You shouldn't ever do that... don't ever do that" Lol!!
would like to get some videos on how to ride year long. what kind of gear to wear, tires, Etc. I'm going to start myself this winter here in So-Cal. and I've been looking for info and since you guys seem to be well knowledge riding experts would love some info on that. Thanks Zack and Ari for the sweet vids
overdrivekill7 any tips?
9 thumbs down? WTF! You guys give the best info
Great review as always, pretty smooth production. The bike seems extremely good fun, I heard you saying about 177hp. Is it about emissions ? I think EU version is 190+.
PS Make a contest-survey for EU citizen's too , we love the show (and channel) too , you know!
@Motorcyclist Magazine How did you do that stop/turn at 13:05? Did you use only front brakes and let the back end slide?
On every new commute video, the road contractors are getting nearer each time to Zack's home... xD
Dream bike
Sounds like an old Kawasaki. Weighs about the same. Great commuter bike. I LOVE old Kawasakis, especially black ones.
I've seen this episode like 6 times.!
Love to see a review of the new 650 vstrom
Damn US only competitions. Good video anyway though guys, keep it up
Please review the 2018 Triumph Street Triple RS for MC Commute ride - I want to see Zack pull power wheelies all the way to work!
Zack, you daredevil!!!
...a sick crazy-good bike, the handling of a Gixxer 750 with an engine like an R6 on steroids.
Did you ever notice just how silky-smooth the throttle response is and how quickly the engine revs...to 14 grand...pulling like a freight-train from idle the whole way to redline? And that intake sound, that absolutely "no fooling around" snarl.
This is just a *wonderful* bike, a complete joy to ride. The only downside I see to it is the rear spring is pretty stiff so anything you ride over it thumps like you're hitting a speed-bump in a car. But otherwise just wonderful, wonderful, sublime, superb riding-experience.
It is a shame though that I keep hearing so much about the engines on these things falling apart.
Gotta say with this selection of bikes to commute on you definitely have a few people dying of envy in front of their computers.
2017 Duke/RC390
Are you guys going to do a 2017 or a 2018 small bike comparison like you did for the 2015 small bike shootout? Bikes under 700cc preferably, but I am not picky!!! Thanks
It’s between this and the new CBR1000RR....I enjoyed how easy it was for you to go through the rider aids....was it because it was easy or you had to study the manual? How reliable are they? I know BMW has an awesome track record but your opinion would help. IMHO if your on top of your bike in the maintenance you should be ok but what about anything faulty? Any things that would concern you? Thanks.
Good job as always fellas. Zach have you ever had to deal with any bad speeding tickets? I got my first one recently and it was alot lol. Next summer I need to do more track days. I always tried to ride in desolate areas where cops weren't as common but its tough. Thx buddy!
Hell yeah, Thx buddy
Gloves to match bike. Nice
Those german monks... what a beautiful bike they made
Well now you've got me interested in that electronic suspension and how it works... get Ari to do a video on it!
You should also mention service intervals and associated cost for us so we know what to expect.
Bro.. I love the video but I'm curious.. Why did you cut over behind the car that was obviously on the brake at 12:27 ? Keep the video's coming...
I'd love to see the SV650 suzuki in a MC Commute !
Hi Zack, how about commute on Kawasaki Ninja 650 2017 and CBR 650F 2017?
S1000rr ❣️
Mc , please can you review the moto guzzi v9 bobber 2017 t.y.
Please test the S1000RR with the 2D (fork travel sensor).
Zack, can you do one of their K bikes, like K1300 S or R?
I knew that I wouldn't be eligible for your sweepstakes and I was right, but I did the survey anyway as I love your channel, that was a looong survey man.
Yup, USA only :( nevermind. I did the survey anyway because Zack and Ari are the best motorcyclist you-tubers by far!
What jacket are you wearing in this video?
Praise the Motorcycle Gods for the creation of up AND down quick shifters. My next ride MUST HAVE IT.
I liked the Tach with the ODD #'s better, it was the German thing to do. YES, analog tachs ARE THE SHIT. I guess it's an AGE and Generation specific thing.
Too much power ? Pffsshh, no such thing. Give us MOAR. LOL.
Nice work. keep it up.
lives near Mariners and works in Irvine.... tale as old as time!
Please make a review on the ktm 1290 superduke r 2017
Please do commute on other 1000 cc bikes too
so u got a s2000, evox, and a s1000rr? I guess your set for life!
We all just gunna ignore the three legged dog crossing the road at 4:53
I live in Danmark where our speed limits in the city are turtle wise and the laws regarding lane filtering etc are dumb strict. If I would commute to work with the rain mode in start and stop traffic behind cars, do you think I would have any issue with the heat? I'm talking about 30km commute back and forth to work at 30-60km\h speeds maximum. I know a litter bike might be too much for this kind of commute but that nobody stopped buying a Porsche for the same style reasons. It's also my dream bike😊
I have a Kreiga bag so you can keep that one. I'll take the tool kit though :D
Dude you sound like my mom when you laugh..😁
Enjoy both yours and Ari's videos.
And you can't say 'shit on yt!
What’s the maintenance intervals?
its too cool maan
Yes, nice
3:51 three legged dog!!
I commute to work on my 1299.. perfectly fine, comfortable and fun. Alas my thighs tend to disagree.
I'd like to see a Diavel commute!
To buy this one , that has been perfected over 3 series or to take a plunge in the deep and wait for the new model... any thoughts my people ?
