My brother and I are from Canada, Sweet introduced us to a whole new world of music. We lived a very small town, 3000 people. My brother won Sweet, Desolation Blvd. from the local radio station. We we 12 and 13 respectively. WOW they should have lasted longer. This was mid 70s or early 70s, no matter. Amazing what music can do.

They had many great hits and were clearly a talented band as performers, but they were never the same when they left Chinn and Chapman and started doing their own material.

I grew up in rural southwestern Manitoba and my mom listened to KY58 from Winnipeg and they weren’t classic rock yet because they played what was new in 1979 when I was 10 lol 29 km east of Russell. I returned in 2013.. I definitely remember the earlier glam rock songs

While I really like Sweet from a musical standpoint, I'm not quite sure if they make the requirements as a band.
Sweet was a very commercialized Bubblegum-Band, with songs from third-party songwriters and a very market-orientated management that dictated everything from their looks to the "teenage attitude" in order to artificially make them as (financially) appealing to teens as possible. Basically Sweet was "designed" as a money-machine, not a "legit" musical group. I think that Brian, Andy, Steve and Mick themselves really were in for the music, but the way the band itself was managed and marketed was a bit too superficial and bubblegum-esque for the HOF.
