    Thanks for breaking down your paycheck. It was very helpful. Im new to your channel and like the content. I am in the process of joining the Navy too. Anyways, im confused on how you added up your deductions side. My math says around $1,088 but you got $3,000 sumthin. Let me know your thoughts?

    Couple things some people don't also realize, you are eligible for a pension at 20 years that you don't have to contribute to that is protected from inflation that you could start drawing at age 38 for life! And many of those allowance you showed are tax free which really adds up. Also no medical or dental costs for the sailor to pay, no deducible or co pays. I didn't appreciate any of that until I got out and suddenly had to pay for everything on income that is 100% taxed. One other thing, that pay gap that everyone talks about doesn't really exist. Sure you wont get rich, but wont be poor.

    I don't think the Medicare deduction is for medical expenses while in the Navy. It's for medical expense of all the Americans who are retired (over 65) and covers some of their expenses.

    Something isn’t adding up with the math. I added up your deductions and it totals $1086.12. How did it jump to $3567.51

    Do you get cola if you are stationed in San Diego? Cause there’s no way 2700 bah and 430 bas is gonna cut it for someone with a family.

    • @owensmatt
      @owensmatt  Před 2 lety +1

      COLA and BAH is different at each duty station. BAH amount will also change depending on rank, COLA is dependent on location.

    • @owensmatt
      @owensmatt  Před 2 lety +1

      @@beanteam2217 No, other states with high cost living in the US also offer it. There has recently been a change in lowering it drastically within the US areas, but the most paid out for COLA is typically oversea duty stations

    Where do you live while on shore duty?

    • @owensmatt
      @owensmatt  Před 2 lety +2

      Started off in barracks and as you get rank you're allowed to live off base in regular housing/ apartments

    • @taytayshaniqua.8686
      @taytayshaniqua.8686 Před rokem

      @Aquila Griffin no, you can request to live off base regardless of rank- (not guaranteed). The bah you’ll receive is for e5 and above.

    • @taytayshaniqua.8686
      @taytayshaniqua.8686 Před rokem

      @Aquila Griffin you can get an off base housing while you are in a school. You go to the pay and personnel on your base and you tell them about it, they’ll have you fill out a request form after which you will need the co’s approval. I had a classmate and several other friends who lived off base. Be prepared to live in the barracks for a month or two probably though. I advice you discuss this with someone who works with these things beforehand in case they can expedite the process and get you to live off base as soon as possible.

    • @taytayshaniqua.8686
      @taytayshaniqua.8686 Před rokem

      @Aquila Griffin I get your question now, after a school you are allowed 2 week leave, before reporting to your next command. Depending on your leave balance and your report no later than date, you can extend this leave to prep yourself for your next duty station, which in this case if you need to find a place to stay, you do this within the two weeks.
