Watching this video brought tears to my eyes. Both for the beautiful of the techniques and the memory it brought back when I had the honor and privilege of being taught this drill by the late, great Sukiyaki Kotani.

Why didn't Uke transfer his grip on the second step of kata guruma left and right? Has the IJF changed this technique?

I was impressed by the yoko-gake. Of course the start position for tomoe-nage has since changed, but was correct for the time.

It was a good kata, but far from the best. That sasae was really beautiful, but the uchimata was basically an ashiguruma.

Rubbish! uchimata illustrated the technique very well - nothing like an ashi-guruma. What were their scores?

I feel the uchi mata was pretty good, except maybe the direction the were facing. I don't see the ashi guruma you are talking about.

The uchi mata in the nage no kata is a pure ashi waza uchi mata, not like the almost koshi waza uchi mata that is performed in competitions!

Throws didnt look very powerful in this one, even for kata standards

I don't believe a single strike in this set...

Because it's a throw demonstration and a demonstration of understanding how physics work in relation to humans. If you want to see strikes, there are other katas.
