  • Today we show you how to build a wetland filter for an existing pond! It's the best way to beef up your biological filtration while adding a unique shape to your pond. This one takes up 6'x8' footprint.

    very nice, One thing I have noticed regarding your wetland filters. There is never any discussion of how the water gets into the wetland filter and how it is distributed.

    Great video, thank you! A same-level wetland does indeed make the pond look bigger and seems a perfect hang-out for smaller fish.

    I've been watching all these videos for ages and I've only just realised that Aquascape do wetland/organic filters in the opposite direction to everyone else...
    Aquascape - the water goes in at the bottom and filters as it rises up through the wetland;
    Everyone else - water goes in at the top and filters as it goes down through the wetland.
    My initial thoughts are that filtering upwards needs more water pressure, and results in having to clean out sediment, but you get a more even movement of water through the whole wetland, whereas filtering downward would lead to the water finding paths of least resistance.
    You can run a whole downward system with a low power bubble pump, but that would rule out any sort of significant waterfall - the pool and filter would have to be pretty much at the same level.

    Question about the plumbing on this... does the water flow to the bog come from the pump in the skimmer? If so did you split the line from the skimmer pump between the bog and the waterfall?

    Love your content. Got a question regarding building a water feature from an existing man-made “natural” pond. I’ll be taking the family home in 2-years and I’m planning early. I want to pull water from the 1/2+ acre pond my dad built, and pump it about 120 ft away near the back of the home and build a long stream/creek running through the back yard that I’ll make a huge rock garden. Do you have any of your videos relating to such a task?

    Use 3m scrubbers the dark red ones. They are same as green but dark red those work way better and last longer more like a very fine sanding almost

  • @KoifishIndiaNishikigoi

    Can you show me how you place filter pump and how pipeline did for the pump please?

  • @mattbrown4895
    @mattbrown4895 Před 2 lety +3

    Looks nice. I've heard that disguising the wetland filter by placing boulders on top of the gravel (filter media) reduces the effective area of filtration. Do you compensate for this by oversizing the wetland, or is this not a concern? Also, what size pumps are running this feature? Thanks, and keep up the good work!

    • @TEAMAquascape
      @TEAMAquascape  Před 2 lety +5

      Not really a concern we want to slow the flow down anyway so the solids settle. The boulders are on top of the gravel so it does really effect anything. I think this one had a 5 to 9 on it.

    Hey Brian... can you guys mark the top and/or the liners.. it's hard to tell which side to face up

  • @TheBarefootedGardener
    @TheBarefootedGardener Před 2 lety +1

    When Brian said the centipede should be slightly pitched to the snorkel, what would that look like on a level? The wetland looks good.

    • @TEAMAquascape
      @TEAMAquascape  Před 2 lety

      Quarter bubble. Just enough so the solids settle closer to the snorkel for cleanouts.

    @cathleenbaldwinmaggi2252 Před 2 lety +1

    Where do you get the water from to go to the Wetland filter? Did it come from the skimmer or somewhere else in the pond? Then did it go into the snorkel?

  • @TheMoonDejesus

    Anyone else feels crazy when they were scrubbing the liner but only on the rim while the front end was all slimy and gross?

  • @plamentv
    @plamentv Před rokem

    Looks nice, but didnt get it, where is the wetland filter sucking water from? The Skimmer box? That will make sense to me, and also if thats right, doesnt have the Skimmer box to be at the opposite side of the pond, or it doesnt actually matter?

  • @jeromeclatot1769
    @jeromeclatot1769 Před 2 lety

    I see in this scenario that the wetland is below water level meaning that there is no waterfall to add oxygen after nitrate cycle,. In what case are you going to choe to have a little water fall or not? so having the wetland above the water level to go back down toward the pond? Thank you
