    You wouldn’t expect an enormous Mercedes Sprinter van to be an effective off-road machine. Neither did Graham, until he took one round the fearsome Millbrook off-road course.
    It’s frankly amazing off-road abilities made powering through a poorly throat absolutely worth it…

    I think I watched this video before I bought my 2016 4x. On my way home I went through Zion NP in Utah and headed up my favorite steepy near the park. Forgot to gear it down into low and found myself up a very steep hill with no power.

    That was a joke of off-road capability. The only impressive parts were the step angle considering how top heavy the van is/would be, and the mud pit with the articulation with the rear tire coming off the ground. I did think however it was cool though that the 4X4 had traction control. That is a BIG plus vs the financial cost to get front and rear locking differentials.

    • @ihmesekoilua
      @ihmesekoilua Před 2 lety

    It's always nice future to have automatic doors on the sprinter. If you looking for one check out this company. AdorUSA.com
    They make 2 types of openers for Sprinters for last 15 years. I have one on my sprinter. 2 years. Works great. Affordable and easy to install.

    • @jimmyzamp6298
      @jimmyzamp6298 Před 5 lety

      What's special is that a 2 wheel drive sprinter will get stuck on wet grass.No joke I own a 2004 and even with snow tires it has the worst traction on any incline.It's a great van otherwise but I need to upgrade to 4WD. Made mine into a camper and don't want to do all the build again so thinking of a 4WD conversion but the 20 grand is a deal breaker. Than again the new one in 4WD is over 60 grand.

    These sprinters tip over on slight grades, these are not off road vehicles. Jeepers never see Sprinters out there, you know why? Because they can't make it out there. No one is going to risk getting their $180k sprinter stuck in the middle of nowhere where it can't be towed out. These are basically show vehicles for yuppies to compete on who looks like a bigger off roader. It's funny reading sprinter forums, these people buy these expensive vehicles and have no idea about wheels, axles, gears, offroading, etc... They think their car battery is going to power their AC in death valley for weeks... In their rush to post their first pictures of their camping spot, they only research all these things afterward...

      I have a 2016 4X Sprinter and I am smart enough to completely agree with you. But 2 steps to a full size mattress after turning the key off does feel nice at times.

      @TheLtrentlage Před 7 lety

      +CLEVEN11 No I have newer Sprinters and a ml320 CDI with the 3.0 diesel - the main issue is with these is all the electronic sensors on the engine are low quality and are made in China or Mexico. The pressure sensors and heat sensors fail on the exhaust and engine randomly. The replacement parts you get from dealer are all made in China too. I finally replaced the important sensors ( that will shut the engine down and lockdown ecu) with parts made in Germany to get some reliability out of the engines. Also keep in mind newer diesels with dpf's are all troublesome. It's a real bummer when these things break out on the road and you have to have them towed in and connected to Wi-Fi so Mercedes can log and clear engine codes then wait for the dealer to fix them.

      @@TheLtrentlage Think I will keep my 2004.Have had no problems really with 140000 miles.One EGR valve and one set of brakes at 89000.Do all the maintenance my self and get great MPG.

    • @jheetman
      @jheetman Před 3 lety

      @@TheLtrentlage I used to be a dealership tech and worked on these vans, The DPF and SCR (cat) would always fail on the V6 models between 160k and 190k miles, costs 6 grand to replace it all. the 4 cyl models had far fewer emissions problems though, they could go hundreds of thousands with no issues and the 4 cyl engine makes almost as much power as the V6. The older T1N models with the straight 5 cyl engines were beasts as well. if you have a V6 model, make sure to check the DPF mounting bracket for cracks, if it cracks the DPF will move around and break the exhaust flex joint and then blow hot exhaust gases on the wiring harness, very labor intensive and expensive to fix.
