In this video I got over the price / cost of a Ductless Mini-Split System. This system will provide heating and cooling (air conditioning) to the house.
I’ll echo many of the other comments. They could have ran the AC lines inside the wall and popped out the bottom of the wall for a much cleaner install. Forget the trim work that needs to be done. You don’t need to see line hide on the outside of a NEW house. That is for remodels where the walls are finished. I also agree with the few commenters that mention the electric wires are not neatly run. I always run the wires in a bundle and straight lines. Anyway, thank you for putting out great content and don’t let the negative comments get to you, we mention things like this cause we care, not to just be a pain in the ass.

I think the mini-split concept is great and more efficient. I hope this bad experience doesn't make you abandon the possibilities of doing this again in a future build. Knowing how much pride and effort you put in to your work, seeing that hatchet job makes me feel bad. I strongly feel the owner of the installation company owe you an adjustment.
They should have capped the line sets instead if leaving them open to air. You can get debris, water, and bugs in the line sets that will ruin system. Not cool

@@MigraineCraftsman You have every right to be upset over that. What they did was shoddy work. No concern for quality or craftsmanship. When I was an electrical apprentice, my master electrician was so keen on craftsmanship, he'd demand that the slotted screws on the light plates and electrical plates were all lined up vertically, because people pass judgement on a person's work sometimes based upon appearances. We did quality work behind the walls, too, but what he taught me about appearances and caring about how good of a job you do on both sides of that wall are things I've used throughout my life. You're 100% right to expect them to have done the job correctly. What they did translates to nothing more than getting the job done as quickly as possible to pocket the money, because time equals money. So sad.
Not what I've seen for mini-splits. I've always seen the unit mounted or in the yard exactly like any central air/heat pump unit and a very small evaporator/blower unit inside. More zones -- more units. Easily installed and not near that expensive. I agree with you. That is a hack job. And 30-40% too costly

Im a licensed builder for 20 years. I flipped hundreds of properties and worked on just about all of them myself. I wire houses, i do plumbing roofing etc. I read all the coments and nobody mentioned a hole saw. I would have drilled one hole with a paddle bit for the drain line, and a hole saw for the copper line sets. Then seal them with sealant.
Now if the boss man (HVAC) was in on this, I would be worried. If not, I’d show him the video! This an awesome little house anyone would be proud of...
Wow! very poor installation, and extremely high price for that size unit. I've used mini split systems in several of my homes and paid just over half of what you quoted.
I held off on the last video on commenting how the wiring was done thinking they just laid it out and it wasn't finished. Running that wiring as the crow flies is not professional at all. Put a stop payment on that check and get them to redo it. I feel for you. This shouldn't happen so frequently. Professionalism and ethics has left HVAC contracting. It is a sweet system though. Keep your spirits up there are a couple of good contractors out there...you will find one.

Mini splits are amazing, but do understand that while you can condition an individual room and they all have individual thermostats, you cannot, on most systems) simultaneously heat one room and cool another. The entire system is either in cooling mode or heating mode, which is fine for most people and use cases. There are mini split systems that have heat recovery function; these systems with heat recovery can redirect heat and enable simultaneous cooling and heating of zones in the system. Currently the only system I know of that works on residential single phase 240V electrical is made by LG.
I do appreciate your concern for this install. Also thanks for letting us know the price difference between ductless and ducted. My long term concern about a mini split is that with three heads to clean the homeowners may not be so keen on doing it and it could lead to a shortened lifespan for the unit. Those heads are also quite unwieldy to clean. Also, don't believe the seer lie.. that's for mild climates where the outside temp is quite close to the desired inside temp. For example it's 74 degrees inside and 80 degrees outside. In hot weather like ga or in my case Texas where it could be 95 degrees outside, any properly sized unit will be running wide open for most of the summer and that is straight up eer rating, not seer. There are some units that have a higher seer rating, but a lower eer rating than another unit with a higher eer but lower seer. I'll always take higher eer.

You’re a great builder with tons of integrity, you do very nice work👍🏽. The only thing I would have to criticize a bit is that bathroom flex vent tube, I would’ve gone with the insulated type only because all of the callbacks I’ve got for leaky exhaust fans in bathrooms that are incorrectly installed due to some builders using that flex duct I a uninsulated attic. I see you insulated pretty well, just in case you see water coming out of that fan know that that’s the probable culprit.

Nearly all A/C manufacturers will only warranty their equipment if it is installed by a licensed dealer, so this is really one part of the house that isn't DIY.

Hey bud not sure if you remember me but I’m here in FL, I finally payed off my piece of land that I bought a year ago. Now I need to pay the impact fee before I start to build. I got to save close to 32k within the year so I’m ready to break ground soon. Just wanted to say I’m taking all the advice from all the months of videos I’ve seen in the past year. My goal is almost this same house(been my favorite build) but I’m trying to find someone who can add attic trusses to the home to lower my cost per sqft. Hopefully all goes well and I don’t break the bank.

You can get trusses from home depot or lowes, to put them up you will need a couple of people to make it easier or rent a crane to get it done a lot faster. I’m an HVAC tech , those cassettes are awesome when they work fine, they’re fragile and need regular maintenance, install surge protector. I still prefer split ducted system . Try to have pvc for the drain instead a clear hose .
That one in the hall should have been put in the living room on the wall above the hall way centered. It should have been a wall mounted unit. That would be better. Then you can set unit to sway area back and forth. The one in hall has 1 small outlet pointing towards that big area. You need wall mounted in big living area. I have a split and I know a lot about these.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but at 1:25 you can see the copper lines opened up at the ends. I've done some HVAC systems in the past and from what I know those copper lines should not be left open. Those lines must be capped on both ends until refrigerant goes in, otherwise you risk refrigerant lines being contaminated and it will be additional cost to flush them out. I would suggest to go with PVC pipes for drainage, don't let them install those vinyl pipes, it won't drain property. Any reason why exhaust vent line runs for such long distance? I would recommend you to change it to hard round duct.
PVC is what is going to be on the final install as for everything else, there is a lot to this install so I'm going to reserve any further judgement until I see the finished product and see if it works.

If it was me I would redo their poor workmanship. You should reroute the lines to a area that you feel more comfortable with. Then fix the mess they left behind. Otherwise it’s going to bother you for a long time. Or call the company and tell them there work is unacceptable and have them redo it
Wow! I don’t know anything about ac insulation and I’m pretty sure that’s not suppose to look sloppy. My bf owns his own ac company and installs mini splits and he’s extremely professional with wires and making holes in someone’s home or building. Hopefully you can get them to fix that 😎
Great video series. Can you tell us on each video what day of the building process it is being filmed to give us an idea how long it is taking to get to each stage?
1. Dealers overestimate the size of HVAC systems so that they can make a larger gross profit amount on the more expensive unit. 2. Oversized HVAC systems result in the system running for short periods of time, like 3-4 minutes, instead of 7-8 minutes, which results in "short-cycling" and consequent humidity accumulation because the system never had a long run time to cool down, dry out and remove humidity and condensation. 3. Retained humidity may eventually create conditions favorable to mold, and that is the real risk of an oversized system - black mold. 4. The partial installation is such that many viewers have "lost confidence in the ability of the HVAC installers to complete the installation in a professional manner" and it may be worth considering having all the Haier equipment removed and going with a different manufacturer (and installer) such as LG, Fujitsu or Mitsubishi in order to source a 1-1.5 ton unit at a much higher SEER rating because in the long-run that will maximize economic efficiency. I'm a second year apprentice and pretty sure this could have been done better. It looks really unprofessional and like they didn't have any consideration for your property. But again I'm still an apprentice.
I work for a a big construction company. There is crappy work everywhere. All you have to do is point it out and tell them it’s unacceptable and they need to fix it. If you never stand up, trust me they’ll screw you. Also don’t think that they didn’t know what they did was wrong trust me. They know exactly what they did! Complain they’ll fix it for free! If they don’t do not use them again.
Wow!! 😞 I am sorry but that is unacceptable, brings back bad memories of job done like that in one of my businesses. I came in and saw how they were doing the job and they was ok with the Quality of work they was doing, well I stop 🛑 them on the spot and fired them told them gather up their tools and leave. Yes they took me to court, but with my evidence/pictures needless to say I won. If you was questioning their work in the beginning, as particular as you are...you should have ran them off the job site. I really hope that it works out well and you can live with it. Great video!!
I'll be curious how the multi zone unit works for the customer, I heat/cool a 750 sq ft apartment with a single 18,000 BTU unit and it works great it's a cheapo pioneer that I got for free. My in laws have a fancy dual zone Fujitsu that just refuses to work right. It sends all it's cooling power to one zone, it won't seem to do anything to the other zone. Worked well for about two years, and then that started happening.
All of those wires and line set should have been hidden inside the stud wall, not running down the outside of the home. Get them to change it and pay for the siding fix, that job looks like Hell.
I like to watch your videos. But I didn’t like the install of the mini split. Whoever did the install didn’t do a good job. The copper lines should have been ran between the wall. Sorry we own an ac company. I know a good install vs a bad install. This is a terrible install.
I'm a licensed HVAC contractor in southern California. Good system you installed but lazy installers. They should have ran it down inside the wall and popped out the bottom of the wall right at the outdoor coil since it's new construction. They plan to stick a eye sore line set cover over all those lines and to cover that horrible hole they cut. Too bad they dont care about their craftsmanship the same way you do!

Great update. I was waiting for the mini split install. For some reason I thought that it was going to be the wall hanging units. Anyway, can the installer run the line set down the wall on the inside and then have it pop out through the bottom? It does look kinda tacky coming through the gable an then having to snake down the side of the house. Also how many thermostats will be controlling the units?
There will be 3 remote controls for the unit. As for the wall units I would have preffered those but they were more expensive over a grand more. The install here is interesting to say the least but I left them alone expecting proffesional results, well I learned.
@@MigraineCraftsman Don't give up yet. Let the company owner know that you're documenting all your builds on CZcams and of all the HVAC installs, this one was a bit lacking. Let him know that it would be better for his business if he made his guys do a better job on the install.
Many comments about system size and install. Here’s my 2 cents. I think you went the wrong way about this job. First the load calculation tells you the system size and then you choose the appropriate system with a manual S, ducted or not. 36k for a 750sf house with the insulation you have is insane; that’s 250sf per ton!! I do this for a living and this is not even 90’s build but more commercial performance (or lack of thereof). I don’t know where you’re located (california?) and couldn’t read the thermal specs of the windows stickers but a house like that would probably have a load of 9-15k tops. Use a high-static ducted mini-split and you’ll get air in every space, have one unit to service and still be more efficient than a basic split system. It blows my mind that they installed a 12k head in this small bedroom. I live in FL and this install would be great for a mushroom farm... As for the linesets coming out of the side and everyone going crazy about it, first they clearly did a shit job in general but not capping the lines is beyond criminal, second they should’ve cut a nice hole and installed a dedicated line cover and third for those who want to run stuff inside walls, a) you break your thermal barrier and b) you can’t fix or replace the lines without tearing out the wall if need be c) running a water line that can get plugged aka drain line insiste a wall is stupid. So yes, esthetically it is not attractive to have a line cover on the side of the house but I’ll take it any day for service access. Covers can be painted and you don’t sit outside looking at it 24/7...
@@MigraineCraftsman I don't know where you're located and your construction codes, but in FL contractors are legally responsible for what they install and if any issue due to over or undersizing would occur, they could and would be liable for the cost of the repairs, whatever those might be. If I were you, I would nip this in the bud right now before drywall and insulation while everything is easily accessible and your house sold. I do third-party consulting for anyone that needs my services and those situations are never fun. You might want to have another company redo the load calc even if the one that installed the system shows you one because I am pretty sure it was fugged.

The actual price depends on the size of the vault/pitch of the roof, plus the finishing touches. It's always hard to answer those type of questions correctly without just flat out guessing percentages. Sorry T, my guess at least 15% when it all said and done.

Your installer is a hacker. All those lines should travel together in a bundle. There is no need for that mess. Also the SEER for INVIVIDUAL systems can be double of a multiple split system. In other words... one condenser for each head. Mitsubishi multi head tops out around 18SEER. The singles can be 36 SEER. Price isnt a lot different either. I dont know if this will improve in the future
Installer should have run the line-sets on the inside of the walls and poke individual holes for each line its done neatly. Looks like a bunch of squirrels did that hack job of an install. It would have been a lot more cost effective to install 2" rigid foam insulation on the exterior and just one one mini-split for the entire home. Build cost would have been lower & the owner would have smaller energy bills! Another option would to use a ducted mini-split so you could distribute the air with a small amount of duct work. FWIW: I am building a 3400 sqft home with just two ducted minisplits (one for each floor).
He mentioned in the video the extra zones are for bedrooms, so you can cool just one bedroom at night (to sleep better) instead of the whole house, although I don't know how much of a difference it makes in such a small house. It might have been better to spend a couple thousand on better insulation for the whole house than separate mini split units. That's the main reason I too would get a mini split is because I sleep much better at night when the room is cool (especially when the Florida air is so humid), but having a separate zone for the bedroom might be more efficient.
Have you done heat pumps on your other houses? Split systems can be expensive but see my other comment about poor location of hall unit. Poor workmanship, and leaving them pipes open is not good. Run over there and tape the ends. Don't like the drain set up. Any trouble with freezing or leaking will be a real mess with all your blown in insulation. I may be wrong but I would kick off job and take a little loss and get someone who knows what they are doing. This is only my own opinion but I have been in construction all my life. Retired now. Don't mean to cause you any anxiety.
That is my first mini split install, I wanted to try something new for energy efficiency. I usually do conventional heat pump/ac and I think I'll just go back to that to be honest.

Everything points to these installers being hacks. At least you know not to use them again. Running the lines up the outside wall is for remodels. They were supposed to run the lines in the wall cavity. Also the cost for that system seems pretty high. I would expect a 3 ton compressor with 3 heads to be around $2700-$3200. Sorry you ran into some bad luck here.
Yes piss poor looking quality from the HVAC contractor. I have used aluminum coil stock or .032 aluminum sheets to build a chase for the exterior plumbing for the HVAC and electrical to dress it up after painting to match the home it does not look too bad.
19 SEER ? Do they still make those or you have to rob museum of old electronics? I install 38 SEER 15 HSPF 9000 Btu Gree in a living / kitchen room , when it is not too hot or too cold it will cool or heat my house the most efficient way , for cases when it has not enough capacity I will install other mini split with ducts for bedrooms
It should be no more than 18,000 BTU for that size house! I live in a 646 sq.foot house and a 12,000 BTU window unit is more than enough to keep my home cool.

The one unit in hall has one outlet pointing back towards back of house and 2 outlets shooting out at the hallway walls. Then only one shooting out into living room kitchen. What kind of genius figured that out?

Condensing line should be insulated in attic so is won’t drip on ceiling. I would have ran drain to nearest drain.

In hot weather like ga or in my case Texas where it could be 95 degrees outside, any properly sized unit will be running wide open for most of the summer and that is straight up eer rating, not seer.
There are some units that have a higher seer rating, but a lower eer rating than another unit with a higher eer but lower seer. I'll always take higher eer.
We always run our copper line set inside the stud wall probably 2 line sets between studs no more, sad install.
Sir, I hope that installation doesn't give you a migraine. Hate the big hole they put in your wood panel. A bit pricey as well. Better luck next time, Sir. Find another company and have them show you examples of their work.

You’re a great builder with tons of integrity, you do very nice work👍🏽. The only thing I would have to criticize a bit is that bathroom flex vent tube, I would’ve gone with the insulated type only because all of the callbacks I’ve got for leaky exhaust fans in bathrooms that are incorrectly installed due to some builders using that flex duct I a uninsulated attic. I see you insulated pretty well, just in case you see water coming out of that fan know that that’s the probable culprit.

Nearly all A/C manufacturers will only warranty their equipment if it is installed by a licensed dealer, so this is really one part of the house that isn't DIY.

Hey bud not sure if you remember me but I’m here in FL, I finally payed off my piece of land that I bought a year ago. Now I need to pay the impact fee before I start to build. I got to save close to 32k within the year so I’m ready to break ground soon. Just wanted to say I’m taking all the advice from all the months of videos I’ve seen in the past year. My goal is almost this same house(been my favorite build) but I’m trying to find someone who can add attic trusses to the home to lower my cost per sqft. Hopefully all goes well and I don’t break the bank.

You can get trusses from home depot or lowes, to put them up you will need a couple of people to make it easier or rent a crane to get it done a lot faster.

I’m an HVAC tech , those cassettes are awesome when they work fine, they’re fragile and need regular maintenance, install surge protector. I still prefer split ducted system . Try to have pvc for the drain instead a clear hose .
That one in the hall should have been put in the living room on the wall above the hall way centered. It should have been a wall mounted unit. That would be better. Then you can set unit to sway area back and forth. The one in hall has 1 small outlet pointing towards that big area. You need wall mounted in big living area. I have a split and I know a lot about these.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but at 1:25 you can see the copper lines opened up at the ends. I've done some HVAC systems in the past and from what I know those copper lines should not be left open. Those lines must be capped on both ends until refrigerant goes in, otherwise you risk refrigerant lines being contaminated and it will be additional cost to flush them out. I would suggest to go with PVC pipes for drainage, don't let them install those vinyl pipes, it won't drain property. Any reason why exhaust vent line runs for such long distance? I would recommend you to change it to hard round duct.
PVC is what is going to be on the final install as for everything else, there is a lot to this install so I'm going to reserve any further judgement until I see the finished product and see if it works.

If it was me I would redo their poor workmanship. You should reroute the lines to a area that you feel more comfortable with. Then fix the mess they left behind. Otherwise it’s going to bother you for a long time. Or call the company and tell them there work is unacceptable and have them redo it

Wow! I don’t know anything about ac insulation and I’m pretty sure that’s not suppose to look sloppy. My bf owns his own ac company and installs mini splits and he’s extremely professional with wires and making holes in someone’s home or building. Hopefully you can get them to fix that 😎

Great video series. Can you tell us on each video what day of the building process it is being filmed to give us an idea how long it is taking to get to each stage?
1. Dealers overestimate the size of HVAC systems so that they can make a larger gross profit amount on the more expensive unit. 2. Oversized HVAC systems result in the system running for short periods of time, like 3-4 minutes, instead of 7-8 minutes, which results in "short-cycling" and consequent humidity accumulation because the system never had a long run time to cool down, dry out and remove humidity and condensation. 3. Retained humidity may eventually create conditions favorable to mold, and that is the real risk of an oversized system - black mold. 4. The partial installation is such that many viewers have "lost confidence in the ability of the HVAC installers to complete the installation in a professional manner" and it may be worth considering having all the Haier equipment removed and going with a different manufacturer (and installer) such as LG, Fujitsu or Mitsubishi in order to source a 1-1.5 ton unit at a much higher SEER rating because in the long-run that will maximize economic efficiency. I'm a second year apprentice and pretty sure this could have been done better. It looks really unprofessional and like they didn't have any consideration for your property. But again I'm still an apprentice.
I work for a a big construction company. There is crappy work everywhere. All you have to do is point it out and tell them it’s unacceptable and they need to fix it. If you never stand up, trust me they’ll screw you. Also don’t think that they didn’t know what they did was wrong trust me. They know exactly what they did! Complain they’ll fix it for free! If they don’t do not use them again.

Wow!! 😞 I am sorry but that is unacceptable, brings back bad memories of job done like that in one of my businesses. I came in and saw how they were doing the job and they was ok with the Quality of work they was doing, well I stop 🛑 them on the spot and fired them told them gather up their tools and leave. Yes they took me to court, but with my evidence/pictures needless to say I won.
If you was questioning their work in the beginning, as particular as you are...you should have ran them off the job site. I really hope that it works out well and you can live with it. Great video!!

I'll be curious how the multi zone unit works for the customer, I heat/cool a 750 sq ft apartment with a single 18,000 BTU unit and it works great it's a cheapo pioneer that I got for free. My in laws have a fancy dual zone Fujitsu that just refuses to work right. It sends all it's cooling power to one zone, it won't seem to do anything to the other zone. Worked well for about two years, and then that started happening.
I'm curious how this works as well, I might offer to pay the ladys first 3 or 4 months of electric bills just to find out.
All of those wires and line set should have been hidden inside the stud wall, not running down the outside of the home. Get them to change it and pay for the siding fix, that job looks like Hell.
I like to watch your videos. But I didn’t like the install of the mini split. Whoever did the install didn’t do a good job. The copper lines should have been ran between the wall. Sorry we own an ac company. I know a good install vs a bad install. This is a terrible install.

I'm a licensed HVAC contractor in southern California. Good system you installed but lazy installers. They should have ran it down inside the wall and popped out the bottom of the wall right at the outdoor coil since it's new construction. They plan to stick a eye sore line set cover over all those lines and to cover that horrible hole they cut. Too bad they dont care about their craftsmanship the same way you do!
Agreed new construction should be easier on them, but it didnt work,out that way.

Great update. I was waiting for the mini split install. For some reason I thought that it was going to be the wall hanging units. Anyway, can the installer run the line set down the wall on the inside and then have it pop out through the bottom? It does look kinda tacky coming through the gable an then having to snake down the side of the house. Also how many thermostats will be controlling the units?
There will be 3 remote controls for the unit. As for the wall units I would have preffered those but they were more expensive over a grand more. The install here is interesting to say the least but I left them alone expecting proffesional results, well I learned.
@@MigraineCraftsman Don't give up yet. Let the company owner know that you're documenting all your builds on CZcams and of all the HVAC installs, this one was a bit lacking. Let him know that it would be better for his business if he made his guys do a better job on the install.
Many comments about system size and install. Here’s my 2 cents. I think you went the wrong way about this job. First the load calculation tells you the system size and then you choose the appropriate system with a manual S, ducted or not. 36k for a 750sf house with the insulation you have is insane; that’s 250sf per ton!! I do this for a living and this is not even 90’s build but more commercial performance (or lack of thereof). I don’t know where you’re located (california?) and couldn’t read the thermal specs of the windows stickers but a house like that would probably have a load of 9-15k tops.
Use a high-static ducted mini-split and you’ll get air in every space, have one unit to service and still be more efficient than a basic split system.
It blows my mind that they installed a 12k head in this small bedroom. I live in FL and this install would be great for a mushroom farm...
As for the linesets coming out of the side and everyone going crazy about it, first they clearly did a shit job in general but not capping the lines is beyond criminal, second they should’ve cut a nice hole and installed a dedicated line cover and third for those who want to run stuff inside walls, a) you break your thermal barrier and b) you can’t fix or replace the lines without tearing out the wall if need be c) running a water line that can get plugged aka drain line insiste a wall is stupid. So yes, esthetically it is not attractive to have a line cover on the side of the house but I’ll take it any day for service access. Covers can be painted and you don’t sit outside looking at it 24/7...

@@MigraineCraftsman I don't know where you're located and your construction codes, but in FL contractors are legally responsible for what they install and if any issue due to over or undersizing would occur, they could and would be liable for the cost of the repairs, whatever those might be. If I were you, I would nip this in the bud right now before drywall and insulation while everything is easily accessible and your house sold. I do third-party consulting for anyone that needs my services and those situations are never fun. You might want to have another company redo the load calc even if the one that installed the system shows you one because I am pretty sure it was fugged.

Migraine how much more expensive is a simple vault like you do in your homes than a standard 9ft ceiling? Should it cost a lot more to do?
The actual price depends on the size of the vault/pitch of the roof, plus the finishing touches. It's always hard to answer those type of questions correctly without just flat out guessing percentages. Sorry T, my guess at least 15% when it all said and done.

Yeah we are a bit different here no cold weather to speak of really at least it doesnt last.
Your installer is a hacker. All those lines should travel together in a bundle. There is no need for that mess. Also the SEER for INVIVIDUAL systems can be double of a multiple split system. In other words... one condenser for each head. Mitsubishi multi head tops out around 18SEER. The singles can be 36 SEER. Price isnt a lot different either. I dont know if this will improve in the future
Installer should have run the line-sets on the inside of the walls and poke individual holes for each line its done neatly. Looks like a bunch of squirrels did that hack job of an install.
It would have been a lot more cost effective to install 2" rigid foam insulation on the exterior and just one one mini-split for the entire home. Build cost would have been lower & the owner would have smaller energy bills!
Another option would to use a ducted mini-split so you could distribute the air with a small amount of duct work. FWIW: I am building a 3400 sqft home with just two ducted minisplits (one for each floor).
He mentioned in the video the extra zones are for bedrooms, so you can cool just one bedroom at night (to sleep better) instead of the whole house, although I don't know how much of a difference it makes in such a small house. It might have been better to spend a couple thousand on better insulation for the whole house than separate mini split units.
That's the main reason I too would get a mini split is because I sleep much better at night when the room is cool (especially when the Florida air is so humid), but having a separate zone for the bedroom might be more efficient.

Have you done heat pumps on your other houses? Split systems can be expensive but see my other comment about poor location of hall unit. Poor workmanship, and leaving them pipes open is not good. Run over there and tape the ends. Don't like the drain set up. Any trouble with freezing or leaking will be a real mess with all your blown in insulation. I may be wrong but I would kick off job and take a little loss and get someone who knows what they are doing. This is only my own opinion but I have been in construction all my life. Retired now. Don't mean to cause you any anxiety.
That is my first mini split install, I wanted to try something new for energy efficiency. I usually do conventional heat pump/ac and I think I'll just go back to that to be honest.

I like those but they are not cheap to put together, and banks are not too keen on a unfamiliar product to lend on. (for my customers)

Everything points to these installers being hacks. At least you know not to use them again. Running the lines up the outside wall is for remodels. They were supposed to run the lines in the wall cavity.
Also the cost for that system seems pretty high. I would expect a 3 ton compressor with 3 heads to be around $2700-$3200.

Yes piss poor looking quality from the HVAC contractor. I have used aluminum coil stock or .032 aluminum sheets to build a chase for the exterior plumbing for the HVAC and electrical to dress it up after painting to match the home it does not look too bad.
19 SEER ? Do they still make those or you have to rob museum of old electronics? I install 38 SEER 15 HSPF 9000 Btu Gree in a living / kitchen room , when it is not too hot or too cold it will cool or heat my house the most efficient way , for cases when it has not enough capacity I will install other mini split with ducts for bedrooms

It should be no more than 18,000 BTU for that size house! I live in a 646 sq.foot house and a 12,000 BTU window unit is more than enough to keep my home cool.
I have a 12,000 BTU unit in a 600 sq ft cottage and it does the job. Probably a little over sized but they can modulate down quite a bit.

36000 btus way to big of unit. Did they not do a heating and cooling load before they started. 18000 is about right. The one unit in hall has one outlet pointing back towards back of house and 2 outlets shooting out at the hallway walls. Then only one shooting out into living room kitchen. What kind of genius figured that out?
That is what I thought on the btu's as well, I am curious how all of this works when they do the final.
