    I’ve seen dozens of shoe tying videos, and this one is the best. It’s a combination of clear instructions, great graphics, and most importantly, the shoes are oriented the way we all actually tie them, and not from the front like you are tying your kid’s shoes. Thanks!!!

  • @strkszone
    @strkszone Před 8 lety +8

    This remains true for all shoes and not just dress shoes! When I was in elementary school, my father taught me this knot and my shoes never came undone unless I wanted it to come undone. When other kids had it happen and nearly trip, I showed them and they never had it happen again. They still praise me to this day for teaching them that haha. Who knew something so simple could be so effective!

    • @fortheloveofpipes8432
      @fortheloveofpipes8432 Před 16 dny

      You can do the bunny ear method and still get a square knot rather than a granny knot. If you cross right over left first than you do the bunny ears left over right . A square knot uses the same end no matter what side it crosses to. The bunny ears method just forms a bight on both ends before making the knot. What distinguishes a granny knot from a square knot is using the same side you start with for a granny knot or using the same end you start with for the square knot.

  • @pitiedvod
    @pitiedvod Před 8 lety +3

    I learned about this originally on Gentleman's Gazette, where they had a great lacing guide, where previously I had used the two loops knot for the past 33 years I been tying my shoes and didn't even bother doing the granny knot. However I do like how this knot lays perpendicular and looks great with my dress shoes.
    Now it still takes me a couple of seconds more to tie my shoes, but I am of the opinion if those two seconds are too long, something far more important is going on than having crooked laces. The only problem is now that I get sad when I am wearing my loafers since I have no laces to tie.

  • @rogercurrie

    I saw this on the Gentleman"s Gazette except that Sven wrapped the second lace around his thumb twice. I have been using that method since and I have never had my laces come undone and it looks better. I use the double wrap method on all my laces now from my oxfords to my work boots and like I said they never come undone.

    Gentleman's Gazette had a good tip that may enhance this. He had a way to double knot that avoids the big bulky knot. On the step when you wrap the lace around the loop, he does it twice instead of once around it. This makes it much stronger and avoids the knot coming loose. I haven't tried this way and I look forward to doing it. Thanks Antonio for the tip.

    Your completed knot (with loops) forms a reef, also called a flat knot, as you will probably know from your time in the Marines. I also like to 'match up' the ends with the loops, so that they are all the same length; if I ended up with the loops as large as the ones in this video I might consider looking for shorter laces, as they seem excessively large for the shoe.
