    In this video Nick Drossos is teaching how to deal with a much larger attacker.
    "How to defend myself against a much taller attacker?" This is a common question that we get, so we decided to make a video explaining self defense tips to use against a taller and larger attacker.
    We brought you a 6'7" 230lbs attacker to show how strong and powerful such an opponent can be!
    Size is certainly an important factor in a fight. Taller attackers have a huge range advantage; they can strike a smaller attacker much easily because of their long arms. Also, because of their size, they usually have a lot of power coming in with their strikes.
    Because of that, you need to be prepared and know what to do against a taller attacker. Having to experience and face a much taller and stronger opponent for the first time in a street fight is not a good idea.
    A great way is to practice in advance and in a controlled area what it feels to be pushed and shoved by a much taller opponent. You can do a similar drill to the one that was shown in the video.
    Your self-defense training should include attackers from various sizes.
    If you are ever faced against a taller opponent, you want to try to defuse the situation as much as possible. Here are some verbal defense tactics that you can use against a taller attacker:
    "I don't want to fight you"
    "I apologize...Let's talk about it"
    "I can give you some money"
    "How much money do you want"
    "I'm sorry, it won't happen again"
    While defusing the fight, you need to be prepared to strike your attacker at all times. Here are some strikes that you can use against a taller guy:
    • Headbutts - They are powerful strikes - Your forehead will more or less be aligned with the softer part of your attacker's facial area - Deliver a solid blow to the nose of your opponent.
    • Eye gouge - Rip into your attacker's eyes and face - it's very effective!
    • Solid Knees - If a clinch as occurred, throw in some solid knee strikes.
    • Pre-emptive strikes - Against a much taller opponent, you need to strike first.
    Make sure not to give him the chance to hit you first. You can't afford to take a punch against such a taller and bigger guy. It only takes one solid punch from such a bigger opponent to knockout someone smaller.
    p.s. Remember to have your hands up at all times to cover your centerline.
    We hope that you enjoyed the video.
    Tell us what you think about the video...Your comments are always appreciated.

    Seriously, thank you for your posts. My friend was almost attacked last night. She is a tiny little thing. She got into an disagreement that turned into an argument with an extremely large man that just got way too out of hand. Had my mother not been there to step between them I am almost sure he would have really hurt her something terrible. We are lucky my mom (also a very tiny woman) was there and that she somehow managed to defuse the situation and he left, but it shook my friend really bad. She was horribly upset and very very scared. She couldn't believe that the man had snapped and flew into such a rage just from her asking him to please stop speaking to her so rudely. She felt such a loss of power over her own self from it all. I don't want her to feel that she can't stand up and ask a man to please stop speaking to her. I don't want her to feel like she can't speak her mind to someone because they are so much larger than her. She didn't set out to argue with this man. We think he had some kind of diagnosed manic disorder to be honest, but you can't spend life being afraid that anyone bigger than you could be manic and might fly off the handle. So today I got on youtube with a mission to find self defense things to try and help her gain back the control she lost last night. I have been sending her these videos you have on here. I told her that i will even take some kind of self defense class with her if she wants. This is just so important. What you are doing is just extremely important and I want to let you know that and to say thank you from me and her both. So yeah. Thank you, a million times thank you. We are gonna practice these things and keep watching your videos.

      Don't even think about facing a man that's taller, bigger than you barehanded. Please get some self-defense weapons. These techniques are low-probability ones. Yes, they might work 30% of the times but most likely the man will just take the shots and hit back, and one hit from the bigger man and you're sleeping in a hospital

    Excellent advice. I have been training for 40+ years. Even so, my best line of defence is not to be there. Always be aware of your surroundings. Learn to read/sense body language, negative energy. Women are better, (have a natural ability) at having a sense of someone wanting to harm them than men. If your gut is telling you something is wrong, there is something wrong.
    I avoided an armed robbery in S. Miami while waiting for lights to change red by using my peripheral vision to notice a black man jump out of the bushes at 2am. He had a white towel draped over his arm held at 90 degrees. Before he had a chance to rob us the moment he cleared the driver's front corner I barked an order for my brother to drive through a red light. It is ok to break the law, to survive in a self defence, life and death situation. This all happened in very short seconds!
    Another time a truck drive that was loosing boulders pulled over as I motioned to him. He walked towards me with his right hand not swinging, I observed him concealing a 3 foot 3" diameter steel pipe. I put my hands up, palm open and began to say to him to take it easy, take the car if you want it. I kept my distance, always aware of the distance he and I could cover based on sparring with people his size. Turned out he was 6'6" weighing about 300lbs. A very big, angry boy, much bigger than me with a weapon to boot. He raised the pipe, I thought he was going to hit the car. I did not care about the car that was running door open, my briefcase on the front seat. I was getting ready to run if I needed to right on the side of the highway. He grunted, turned around and left. I called police and the officer who arrested him told me he shit his pants dealing with him. He wondered how I managed to stay calm cool and collected. Simple answer. Many years of training. My friends asked me what karate move I did on him. I said the best one I know, ready to run. Being a hero, can get you killed, no matter how much training you have. learn to survive.

      It's not true that ones gut instinct is always correct in regards to folk's intention to attack. A large percentage of the population do actually project unwarranted fear and paranoia onto non-perpetrators. I've seen this millions of times, you must be living in cotton wool to not realize it.
      For example I walk a lot late night for relaxation, I enjoy it. I've done this for 20 years. I may look scary to a woman, but I am the safest person a woman would come across at night, I mean no-one ill-will. And I do my best to use body language that lets them know I'm not a threat if I come across someone who is uncomfortable about walking at late.
      Still, I have had women freak out when they approach me. Most stuck it up, go past and nothing happens. But I've had women come to within 20 metres of me then actually do a 90 degree and run across the street. Now her gut instinct is the opposite of reality, in fact she is far more safe with me around than not. I see perpetrator projection all the time. Also, not often, but occasionally I have had guys have a go at me because they thought their gut was telling me I was a threat on these late night walks. I"m very relaxed walking at night, however most folks are not, and I find it sad to see them in discomfort over a safe guy like me. And if they go for fight not flight based upon that false reading, then the bloke you were speaking to in your comment is the one that creates the problem.
      The main reason folks get attacked is because of this paranoia. The best way to trigger a person is to project fear onto him, they take it as an accusation, you are calling them a perpetrator, a bad guy. This is why I rarely have problems walking at night, I assume the best unless indicated otherwise. And even then, it might not be a problem if I treat them like a good guy and I don't project fear and suspicion onto him.
      I don't look cagey walking past people, even if they are pretty loose. Looking cagey and suspicious is the best way to trigger guys. And life is more enjoyable for me, I get about without always being fearful and paranoiad, triggering people or imagining all these possible threats that probably won't materialize.
      Only two nights ago I had this steroid guy with a trophy wife pull up ahead of me while I"m walking, get out and aggressively ask if I'd picked up his wife's keycard on the ground I had just passed. I answer no I hadn't seen anything, but he wouldn't believe me. Even in this situation, I don't project fear onto him. He would take that as permission to aggress further. By not projecting the same back to him he ended up putting his head down and walked away mumbling to himself. It's amazing how much trouble we attract by projecting a a fight or flight response onto another. Of course I was ready for it and always am, however through fear people often create problems where they could be avoided.
      I don't believe in being naive or never heeding your fear either. I'm really just communicating the opposite side of the equation as you're unbalanced towards the other side. The truth is that sometimes one's gut instinct is right and sometimes wrong.
      This also depends upon the person. Many people's gut instincts are consistently wrong because they are paranoid and living in their fear. Some people' s instinct is consistently right, but you will only be in touch with that reality if you are not actually paranoid. Paranoia will make you wrong nearly every time, and as a result you create a lot of problems with others that would otherwise not exist. The cons far outweigh the pros.

      Martial Masters that is true, but a liver strike has been scientifically tested to incompasitate anyone for this reason:
      The capsule around the liver has a lot of nerve fibers. It’s directly linked to the autonomic nervous system. When there’s a sudden blow, there are dynamic pressure changes in the actual organ itself, and that stretching of the organ - if you compress one side it stretches on the other because it’s pliable - causes these nerves signals that go directly into the autonomic nervous system and can cause a complex cascade of events. It's something you can’t control mentally, and it causes a sudden dilation of all your blood vessels everywhere except for the brain. At the same time, your heart rate decreases. Normally, to maintain blood pressure, if your blood vessels dilate, your heart beats faster to maintain the pressure in the cardiovascular system, but if you dilate the blood vessels and drop the heart rate, the blood pressure suddenly drops dramatically. Essentially that’s what’s happening with the blow to the liver: The fighter takes a shot, you get this nerve signal going into the autonomic nervous system, your blood vessels dilate, the heart rate decreases, the blood pressure suddenly drops, and the athlete collapses. You can’t control it. You’re down.
      The reason for the collapse is, when your blood pressure’s going down, your body tries to instinctively control the blood pressure, and if it can’t raise the heart rate or restrict the blood vessels, it puts the body in a supine position so that it can maintain some blood flow to the brain. Because if you lose blood pressure to the brain, obviously it’s not compatible with life. The liver is pretty low and easy to reach even if the opponent is trying to protect it a light punch in the liver can potentially knock someone out or make them think they are going to die. The liver is located in the upper right-hand portion of the abdominal cavity, beneath the diaphragm and on top of the stomach, right kidney, and intestines. The liver, a dark reddish-brown organ, has multiple functions.

    A fight is a physical chess match. When you play a game against a skilled player, you will see the efficiency in moves planned many moves ahead. It's never about rook vs rook, knight vs knight. That's what a boxing match or UFC match is about. A fight is about survival, just as a game of chess is a micro expression of war. It's not about squaring off. A street fight is about someone using whatever they have; be in knowledge, experience, weapon, or any combination to end you. Here is a nice way to deal with this scenario.

      Learn some basic 1/2s... wide left hook, immediate straight right....work in some groin shots and eye gouges. Hit your forehead on the large bag to get used to head butting someone. Strengthen your forearms and hands to rab on to his throat if need be..
      You would be surprised what one can learn ina short period of time when you are young.
      If on the ground (try to avoid), charlie horse, nut grab, hair pull, anything is fair game.
      Or, if you dont want to go through all that and possess some power in your hands/punches already just come up and wack him...
      You might end up losing the fight but i promise you NO ONE will fuck with you again at that school.
      Im in my 30s and was always small... Im 5'9, 150... I never cared if i won or lost. As long as people knew they would feel pain fucking with me was enough.
      When others realize you are not a push over, especially when up against a person 2 years older at such a young age, you will earn respect..
      Sometimes you just gotta take an ass whooping to know what it feels like so you can progress in your fighting abilities and more so, you mental ability to actually get over that flight or fight nervous feeling.

I have been attacked and had the sh*t kicked out of me on a couple of occasions and I'm a small guy too. Never picked a fight ever....However I was walking with my son yesterday, and 2 idiots decided that they were bored and started with the verbals. The fear on my sons face was enough for me to see red. When I confronted them, they almost dissolved as they could see that I was ready to unleash in whatever way I could. I had him in a position where I held his right elbow with my arm across his face. His face was defenseless as I swung to it. I let him up and you could see how light headed he was from the punches and swung even slower. Since I'm shorter I could easily avoid his punches by crouching slightly and had the advantage to uppercut him.

Taller guys are usually less muscular and because the center of the chest is an area you can’t train, it’s typically an incapacitating blow. The knees are easy to kick in and more likely to be seriously affected by someone with fighting experience as well.

    Excellent video Nick. Really agreed with everything you said there and learned a couple of things. The one thing I might have added, is that his limb length becomes a DISadvantage when you get close. The length of the levers makes them less effective.
    Also, if I was going to talk about someone as big as this guy, he's likely to be slow, with poor recovery between techniques, and he's also likely to burn out quickly. If you have the space, but cannot afford to run (say if you're protecting someone else), then staying just out of range whilst he swings, is a possible tactic.

    • @bigbobabc123
      @bigbobabc123 Před 9 lety

      his limb length and size is clearly an advantage. if you step towards him, all he has to do is step back and maintain a distance where you can't hurt him and he can hurt you. all it takes is for him to land 1 or 2 punches in this range and you're going to be out cold. also, don't assume because someone is big they are going to be slow with poor technique, you don't know the guy. if he's fat you can probably assume that, but not big.

    • @icarus0206
      @icarus0206 Před 9 lety

      It's not a good assumption that big guys are slow. Take a look at rugby players, heavyweight fighters etc.

    • @matbroomfield
      @matbroomfield Před 9 lety +3

      bigbobabc123 His limb length can be turned to disadvantage if you know how. His centre of gravity is higher, which gives you a stability and speed advantage, and I quite clearly pointed out that his limb length becomes a disadvantage _once you close him down_.
      ALL fight training is based off some assumptions. Provided you are adaptable enough to compensate if you turn out to be wrong, then all's good.

    • @matbroomfield
      @matbroomfield Před 9 lety

      icarus0206 Rugby players and basketball players COMPLETELY make my point! You don't see the 7 footers sprinting up and down the turf - they take their time, and it's the smaller guys who do the sprinting. Simple physics/human physiology makes this a truism in almost all cases. I've been fighting 30 years and only met two big guys who were fast, let alone explosively fast (which is what's really needed for fighting). Both were trained fighters.

      Aaron Adame You don't have to have been in a street fight in order to use common sense.

    You r too the point and very realistic. I like that because that is how life really is, it's not like you see in the schools where one guys says hold my hand lol and the other guy does what ever. Good stuff.
    Appreciate the video

      I'm 5'6 and 60kgs wringing wet and have held my own and I've not been in a fight where it's been against someone smaller than me.
      They usually have 30+ kg and a foot taller advantage.

    He is not 6'7 Lmao! Not even close! If Nick is only 5'11 then I'd put this guy at 6'5 TOPS. What a liar.

      +Mr Monocle Ok that's why the top of his head is ending around the nose just like the video with the 6'4 attacker. Lol it's the biggest joke to even think this guy is 3 inches taller than him watch that video. They're around the same height. It's generous to say this guy is 6'5 never mind 6'7.

    • @jay_c2669

      Uncle Buck Good point. But why does it matter again?

    • @kingfatmanify
      @kingfatmanify Před 8 lety +17

      It doesn't but still, why lie? Especially by as much as 3 inches because people are gonna look at you and know dang well your not that tall. I'm 6'1 and can easily tell if someone is 3 inches or 6 inches taller than me.

      @Bob-zx7io Před 8 lety +22

      +Uncle Buck You can tell if someone is 6'7 or 6'5 just from a video? Maybe Nick's hat makes him look taller, maybe the heels on his shoes are a little bigger. Guy looks pretty tall to me, not sure why someone would lie about their height.
