SHINee members have such distinct voices but when they sing together, it's just so good. 15 yrs in the industry and SHINee continues to set the bar high, reinvent themselves and try something new. Thank you for checking them out more.
Perhaps you can look into their debut song Replay released in 2008 to see how they started. And also some live performances like Excuse Me Miss and Sherlock from SWC4. Their live vocals are really insane.

Because of SHINee's status in the industry, they get the best of the best in terms of production for their work. They also play an integral part in the process. For example, SM wanted "Juice" as their title track for this album. SHINee said no; they wanted "Hard" instead. In addition, when they first heard "Hard", they hated the melody, so they did what SHINee does best, they dismantled the melody and rewrote it to suit what they wanted. They are famous for cobbling different genres together, making it sound cohesive, and producing something that is totally new and fresh.
In this performance you only see three of the brothers, because Onew is on hiatus due to health reasons (get well soon, Onew!). Therefore, you don't get to hear his spectacular vocals, but this just proves how impressively SHINee can cover each others' parts when necessary.
I think it would be extremely interesting if you would react to the live performance of one of their b-sides for this album and then listen to the actual lyric video to hear the difference when all four of the five members sing together.
"Identity" live performance: czcams.com/video/9moi8XvPHjk/video.html (first few seconds are wonky bc it's a fancam, BUT it's great afterwards because you see the entire choreo unlike the others.)
"Identity" lyric video w/Onew included: czcams.com/video/2-BRmBY4dXA/video.html
Now, if you want to hear all five of them sing together, as well as listen to the very first hybrid song ever introduced to the Kpop world, I would suggest you watch a live performance of "Sherlock" which debuted in 2012 with the most difficult choreo of that time period. Plus, you will get to hear our beloved Jonghyun and his stunning vocals and adlibs. It was stitched together from two other SHINee songs, "Clue" & "Note". It is still a beloved song in Kpop today. This performance is from their SWC IV concert @ Tokyo Dome, March 2015: "Sherlock" live: czcams.com/video/M4pINahBoRY/video.html

Onew (their leader) is on hiatus so was not able to shoot JUICE performance video. Onew is acknowledged as one of the best male vocalist in Kpop industry ❤
Pls react to their old songs and live performance ❤ 😊

SHINee is on another level, top tier legendary artists. Please react to Don't Call Me, Atlantis, The Feeling, then their 2008 debut song Replay. Please also check out their amazing concert live performances of RING DING DONG + LUCIFER REMIX, Sherlock Clue + Note, Stranger, Excuse Me Miss from SHINee World IV or SWC IV concert. All SHINee members are also amazing soloists.

In SHINee's "Juice" performance video, I think the "sun" is supposed to remind you of a giant orange. The song is called "Juice," so I think the orange sphere might be designed to represent the theme of the song. We also see it turn into a red sphere and a silver crystal-like ball. LOL. I think the "sun" is changing colors and becoming more powerful to go along with how the song is getting more fierce. (And as you noticed, in the beginning they showed an eclipse, which could potentially be connected to SM's storyline, but I'm not really convinced yet.)
As you can see, the lyrics of the song are all a big flex about how they are at the top of the game and they have that special "juice" that makes everyone want them and fall in love with them, etc. (As you may know, "Juice" is a American/western slang term that, in this case, I think is meant to mean something like "the it factor," i.e. the thing that makes you attracted to me, etc.)
Fun fact: The phrase, "Incoming!!!", the laughing, and the phrase "Let's get it" in the background, as well as the phrase "Let's change the scenery, shall we" in the middle of the song, are the signature style and voice of Dem Jointz, who is one of the producers of this track.
I think the raspy effect is mainly just their voices, because they sounds similar in their live performances. Although, there is definitely some computerized manipulation as well, especially in the recorded version.
SHINee are known as some of the best dancers in the whole industry. They started the synchronized dance trend. And they made the industry realize that if anyone else wanted to compete they needed to up their game.
Just think, when Taemin (yes, the one with the blond highlights) joined SM as a trainee at 11, he didn't even have any dance training -- up until then, all his skills were self-taught by watching dancers on TV shows -- and by the time he debuted less than 3 years later in 2008, he was already showing everyone that his skill level was on par with, or even surpassed, many professional dancers who had been dancing for years. That is why Taemin is now considered one of the top two BEST dancers in all of Kpop. It's why he is most idols idol and a legend even among legends.
And the fact that the other SHINee members have no problem keeping up with Taemin, just shows why SHINee are one of the top groups. That's just SHINee's natural talent.
Plus, Key (the one with the black hair) actually was chosen to become an SM trainee because of his skills as a dancer. He is the SHINee member who is fastest at memorizing choreography. He has a photographic memory, so he only needs to see a dance once and he can replicate it on the spot almost better than the original. He literally knows everyone's choreography in the Kpop industry. He can fill in as a member of almost any group because he knows their song and choreography just as well, or better, than the actual members.
And although, Minho (the one with the goggles) is the main rapper of the group, in fan meetings and concerts when he has a solo stage, he often does dance covers or dance performances because he is also a really good dancer.
However, what sets SHINee apart even more as a group, is they also are recognized as some of the best vocalists in the industry. SHINee are referred to as CDINee or CD-eaters, because they sound even better live then their album versions.
Even as rookies, SHINee's main vocalists -- Onew and Jonghyun -- were mentors and vocal coaches to a lot of other singers and trainees, including several members of EXO. (EXO may be considered "Vocal Kings," but SHINee are the original Vocal Kings. Which just goes to show you why they are both SM groups.)
In their "Juice" performance video Onew -- their leader, and one of the best vocalists in the industry -- was unable to participate in this performance, so the other members took on his parts in the song. However, if you listen to the album version, you will hear Onew's voice and he creates an even richer feel to the song.
That's just SHINee for you, even when one of their main vocalists is missing, the other members can step in and cover for them and they still manage to sound and look flawless. Although each of their voices adds their own district color to their songs that can't be replaced -- to be fair, all their songs are much better with all 5 of them -- but the other members are so good, that they never look or sound like they are lacking, no matter who is covering each part of the song.
They are legends for their live vocals and amazing dancing. The ONLY thing SHINee is not good at is lip syncing, so they have specifically trained since their debut, to build stamina and endurance, in order to be able to sing live for 3+ hours straight, all while performing these intense choreographies. If you listen to a live performance, you may be shocked, because they sound so perfect live even though they are dancing so intensely, but that is why they are so highly respected by everyone.
It's a running joke between fans and the members that you can tell when SHINee are lip syncing because they are so bad at it, that is why they avoid it at all costs. Therefore, when you hear SHINee sing, 95% of the time it will be live.
Yes, over the years they have become better at lip syncing then they used to be, but now they have gained the reputation as the group that always sings live, so unless they are required to lip sync for a specific reason, what you will hear is live vocals.
Other Idols and audio sound technicians, etc. who have witnessed SHINee performing live are always blown away, because in the parts of the song where most singers would take a break and rely on the backing track vocals to cover their voices so they can catch their breath and recover, this is where the SHINee members actually ramp it up and become their most powerful.
Therefore, if you listen to a live performance of "Juice" you will discover that SHINee sounds even better than you just heard, all while dancing full out like this. I guarantee, that if you were to listen to them singing a cappella while performing this high energy choreography, they would sound just as flawless. That is why, even as rookies, senior artists would stop what they were doing to watch SHINee's rehearsals on music programs because SHINee's vocal talent is that impressive.
When SHINee debuted, they were the first group to demonstrate how it was possible to sing live while performing complex choreography and still maintain stable vocals. Before SHINee, the thought within the industry was that it wasn't possible to sing live and also perform high intensity choreography at the same time. At that time, most groups would either sing live and have simple choreography, or they would have crazy cool choreography, but lip sync to their recorded vocals. SHINee completely changed the Kpop industry and upped the standard of what it meant to be an idol singer.
SHINee live is unmatched. It's literally referred to as the SHINee standard. It's the standard that all other groups strive to reach, and SHINee are the vocalists that all other artists try to emulate. SM really hit gold when they formed this group, and I don't think it can ever be duplicated in the same way again.
To understand just how influential SHINee is, check out a video called, "SHINee's Impact in Music is BIGGER Than You Think. {{Deep Dive}} [15th Anniversary Tribute]," czcams.com/video/9trZ7XFOL5w/video.html.
As mentioned before, there's been a lot of debate whether "Hard" or "Juice" should be the lead/title track on SHINee''s Hard album -- SM wanted "Juice," to be the lead track, but the SHINee members insisting on "Hard." At this point, I think we all just need to trust SHINee knows what they are doing. Over the past 15 years, we have seen the SHINee members prove time and time again, that they know how to be one step ahead of the trend. For example, Jonghyun (SHINee's main vocalist who passed away in 2017) wanted his song "Deja Boo" to be his solo debut song, but SM insisted on his song "Crazy (Guilty Pleasure)." And in the end, Jonghyun was right. "Deja Boo" became so popular as a b-side track that it had SM scrambling to find ways to showcase the song, proving Jonghyun knew what he was doing. And, "View" -- which is one of SHINee's most popular songs -- wasn't even a contender for SHINee's Odd album, until Jonghyun rewrote the lyrics and the members pushed SM to make it their lead track.
In their recent "SHINee's - 15m Roadtrip comeback show", Key, Minho and Taemin revealed that they spent a lot of extra time making sure everything felt right with their Hard album. They wanted to release the album on May 25, the day of their 15th anniversary, but things needed work. For example, there was a section in "Hard" that needed some tweaking. So, instead of just rushing to get it done, they took the time to make it perfect. Key said, that when they heard the final version of "Hard" -- which was sent to them while they were in Japan filming "The Feeling" MV -- his legs went numb and he knew "Hard" had to be their title track. LOL
I think the members chose wisely. Although I love "Juice" because it does a really good job of showing exactly what makes SHINee one of the best of the best, and no one can perform the way they do. However, "Hard" has a much more universally marketable/catchy sound when it comes to appealing to the mainstream public, and the choreography lends itself to being much easier to use for things like tiktok challenges, etc. than "Juice" would have been.
