Props to Larry, he’s pushing 90 there, probably knew he only had a limited number of those types of phone calls left with his son. Life is short. Family comes first.
Yeah I dont think that was a conscious diss. My dad is in his 60s and he answers his cell phone immediately no matter what he is doing, who he is talking to, who is calling. He always picks up a d does the short talk and then says "hey I'm doing xyz can I call you back?" I never answer my phone when it rings. I'll call them back when my anxiety clears from the phone ringing, so I dont personally get it. But old people I think dont understand cell phones. They're still thinking oh I better see who this is. Cringe. Weinstein finally felt like he was in the cool kids club and wanted to name it lmao. Can’t stand that dude almost as much as I can’t stand Neil Degrasse.
After a while of watching him I realised he was just repeating himself and had nothing interesting to add to a discussion. Plus I started to find his voice quite droning and boring. Although others are correct as soon as they as a group referred themselves as the IDB then it was over. Sam Harris quickly trying to row back every discussion he has had with them because he lacks a spine and thought hanging out with them too much would effect his income. Jordan spending far too much time on twitter/x these days rather doing the work that actually made him famous. Bret and Eric are barely interesting enough to bother to keep track of what they do which shows how much it's fallen apart.
"Dude, you're a complete degenerate for doing the stuff you're doing." "Hey, at least you can tell me that. At least we can talk about this. You know, I understand your concerns." I laughed for like a straight minute XD
That Larry King moment is how we all need to live our lives. In that moment he knew with all his being that he would soon be dead, and it blessed him with ultimate perspective. In that moment he couldn't care less for a stupid show or how he was 'meant to behave'... he knew what was important and he embraced it fully. Important lesson. We can all do the same right now.
@@marcosrecio4062 I don’t think Richard is saying he should stop his life and sit in a dark room waiting for his son to call. He’s just saying that if it comes down to talking to his son, who Larry doesn’t know how much time he has left to talk to, or doing a CZcams show, he’s figured out it’s more important to use that time to talk to his son. Maybe Larry didn’t have that same perspective 30 or 40 years ago. Maybe he missed a lot of great moments with his older children because he was so focused on his career. That’s the kind of perspective most people would have at 90 and not so much at 50.
Dave Rubin isn’t really a natural political commentator. His talents are as a host and he became popular on the right because he hosted a podcast where a lot of intellectual and conservative voices went viral. He was at the center of that online wave of conservative or anti-woke content but I think he mistook his role in that. Nobody watched the Rubin Report for Rubin’s stance on things. He, like Joe, was more of a facilitator of discussion and a platform. He did that well. I believe he thought people viewed him as commentator and I don’t think people did originally.
Exactly right. If he wanted to expand his role, he should have started interviewing a wider variety of people. Instead, he started commentating but it's just not his strong suit and it makes him look more like a schmuck.
Agreed, i watched his interview with Thomas Sowell not to hear Dave speak but to hear Mr. Sowell speak. Same exact thing with Joe, i couldn't really care less what Joe has to say
Def props to Larry for taking that call with his son. My dad passed just two weeks ago and we’d talk everyday on the phone just to say what’s up and chit chat for a few, best part of my days
Joe basically said to his face that he knows he's a grifter with his story about hollywood. joe's been in the industry long enough to notice a grifter or a yesman.
Lol Joe is as big a fool as anyone. Dave Rubin is just extremely stupid. You literally have to have like an 85 IQ or lower to believe Rubin was ever an intellectual.
Candace Owens, Rubin, Shapiro etc are horrendous grifters without a drop of shame or substance. They don't even realise that the far right despises them almost as much as the left does
Dave Rubin arguing against building codes and wanting to get rid of the post office because drones exist are two of my favorite podcast moments of all time
He's actually 100% right about the regulations. They mandated you have to have a crane to put disabled people into swimming pools... Their are lawyers whos only job is to find minor "violations" of disability codes such as counter height, ramp access, toilet accessibility, etc. that are costly and unnecessary. Obviously we need basic building codes but a ton of regulations are cost prohibitive bullshit that accommodates 0.01% of the population.
The more I learn about these internet personalities , I am reminded of a quote from Tree Beard in LOTR: "Side? I am on nobody's side. Because no one is on my side, little orc."
The dude sat in front of Ben Shapiro and just smiled as Shapiro told him that his marriage shouldn’t be legal. Edit: Ben straight up said, to Dave’s face, that Ben refuses to endorse any aspect of Dave’s marriage. It had nothing to do with government
What's funny, is Ben thinks his own marriage shouldn't be legal. He doesn't think government should be the one involved in marriage. It's a religious thing. The government shouldn't be involved in religious unions of 2 people. He's spoke on it a few times, for sure.
Had a co-worker years ago that was an extremely devout Christian that very much thought homosexuality was a mortal sin. He was very conservative. He was also married to a man. I had many conversations with him but never could quite wrap my head around exactly how he rationalized everything
Dave stopped using "classical liberal" and switched to "modern conservative" after he interviewed Nigel Farage on his show and Farage told him "classical liberal" is a term for debating society but not for the real world. You could see Rubin instantaneously realize Farage was right and you could also see the disappointment in his face. It was a moment of begrudging acceptance and I haven't heard him refer to himself as a classical liberal since.
"classical liberal" always was a slimey term, since it was so broad and vague. these people were never left wing or "liberal". between their social values leaning into conservative and their economic views being libertarian conservative, the only "liberal" or left wing thing about them is that they didn't hate gays as much.
@@boarfaceswinejaw4516 Dave got the term from Larry Elder, who was on his show and told him he sounded like one. Interesting that the genesis and the end of Dave referring to himself as one emanated from different guests on his show. It's outdated now, but when initially coined "liberal" did not mean left, or even moderate left. It meant libertarian or at least a broader category of which libertarian is a subset. The term was hijacked by the left. But that's ancient history. Now it means, to whatever degree, left of center.
@@benmeltzer what? liberal wasnt fucking hijacked by the left, the "left" on the political compass became the home of liberals because the right wing throughout most of history has never represented free market forces, outside of immediate convenience. hell, in a lot of places conservative literally meant "pro-monarchy". Liberal became a catch-all-term for democrats because democrats, after the party switch, represented social, cultural and economic freedom. thats literally it. in europe, and most of the world outside of the US, liberals generally denotes center/center right politics, but thats because those countries have actual left wing parties. incidentally also why those countries tend to have stronger social security nets, infrastructure and all of the other things conservatives are quick to call "communism". and even then, liberals tend to be moderate centrists.
It’s crazy because Twitter/social media trolls are undefeated against these older brainy guys because they go on social media and think it’s real when the goal of majority of social media is to get a laugh or to get a rise out of someone lol smh

The IDW tag was mostly Eric being a crazy person, that's why he's great. It's only goofy if you think it was meant to be something permanent or a final solution to all the ills of modernity. It was the perfect description for the time and place. It was extremely useful. It's too bad they didn't manage to drag Dave Ramsey into it, because he would have fit right in and there would be a lot less broke bros out there.
Some points to note: - Rubin no longer refers to himself as a “classical liberal” and now actually acknowledges himself a “conservative”. He has done for some time now. - Joe Rogan has referred to Dave Rubin as a “wounded antelope” - Rubin is most definitely a grifter and is at the mercy of the likes of Prager, Glenn Beck and is bankrolled handsomely by Charlie Koch - which is why he will never push back on the right. You said it yourself, he doesn’t want to bite the hand that feeds him. - The IDW is now a dated term. People are aware of its cringe factor. Sam Harris has said he wishes to “hand in his imaginary membership card” and disassociate himself from this. - Speaking of Harris, he too, has also lost all respect for Rubin and is fully aware of him being a grifter.
Dave Rubin: "There shouldn't be any building regulations." Joe Rogan: "Building regulations are important for safety." Dave Rubin: "Okay, we can have SOME regulations as a treat."
Building standards can exist without government regulations. Permits and codes only make sense 'legally" with municipalities, which have overtaken property and land all across the country. Unincorporated land is harder and harder to find, with some states no longer having any of it left.
Corporations team up with lawmakers to implement regulations that are extremely expensive or impossible to execute to corner the market or buy out business.... not to mention the minimal impact of the regulations when in place.
Your channel has become my go to when I want to find out what’s going on. The content you produce coupled with your insights separates you from similar content creators.
15:46 Coming from a third world country, Joe is absolutely right. Dave is a politician, not an engineer. There was a garment factory collapse and hundreds of workers died in my country Bangladesh because of lack of regulation, negligence and corporate greed. If you watch any engineering failure videos on CZcams, the engineers will stress the fact how important it is to abide by the building codes.
I do get what Dave was trying to get at tho. Like, I think it’s fucking ridiculous that if I’m just getting a new septic tank installed that the contractor has to fork out $750 on my behalf for a permit to do so-𝓦𝓱𝔂?!! What business is it of the government if I want to do some home renovations-𝓦𝑻𝑭?! Ok🤗I get it. I know all about some shitty buildings like South Korea’s Sampoong mall collapse or that “hotel” fire that killed several elementary school children on an overnight or that building collapse during a wedding in Israel. But still, there has to be a happy medium in between somewhere where the government isn’t r@ping you just for $$$$$ is all I’m saying.
@@TehBAiNzOr ROFL yea, paper trails. That's why they charge $750... for the paper. You don't need a piece of paper to hold the contractor accountable. It's a money making scheme for the city/county.
@@robinmcinarnay7827Because your faulty home renovations can have lasting impacts on the environment, property value of your land or surrounding lands, etc. and it behooves the government to ensure everyone is taking proper precautions to install and maintain infrastructure. You can redo the interior of your house all you want with no permit, but as soon as you’re dealing with structural renovations, or digging for electrical or plumbing work, it is prudent for safety and above-board work (not hiring Joe Schmo and his 6 migrant workers) to get the job done safely, and up to code.
JBP's brain has been addled by the constant criticism from the left and the nonstop love from the right. He just needs to stick to his practice and self-help. The culture war stuff is just too much for him.

Pulled this from Wikipedia, and it sounds accurate... The intellectual dark web (IDW) is a term used to describe some commentators who oppose identity politics, political correctness, and cancel culture in higher education and the news media within Western countries.
Man, you totally voiced the feelings that made me dislike Dave Rubin. I viewed him as someone totally devoid of substance, but did not really know why. Great video!
Anyone trolling Weinstein into actual anger is always hilarious. Dude is too in love with himself. “The intellectual dark web” is the cringiest shit ever lol
man that annoyed me. I've worked in trades (cabinet making/building and mechanics). DO NOT underestimate how much a tradesman will cut corners! some people are absolutely shocking no respect or anything. Dave Rubin has no idea wtf he was talking about there
That building argument is so bad. They cut corners even with regulation, so lets get rid of any and all ways to hold builders liable for it. Makes sense. Saying the free market will regulate safety itself is such a bad faith argument, and shows this guy has never been on an active construction zone.
The 'intellectual dark web' was such a victim narrative. It's all about being unfairly ostracized. They didn't come off as underdogs, but self-proclaimed fallen angels, which is grandiose.
Self - pitying narcissists and grifters, why has the right wing become so pathetic and motivated by grievance and whining?? They're supposed to love authoritarian 'strongmen' 😂

His time as a liberal and his switch was probably traumatizing. As a liberal you have to make sure you believe exactly the same thing and any different opinion can end your career. That's not how conservatism works, that's why conservatives speak without fear. He's really concerned with what people think about him, and because he's only been a conservative for so long, his ideas aren't built out yet.

It's such a weird move to ask someone to make a social commitment during a recorded show, especially one that benefits only you. I think that's one of the other off-putting mistakes Dave is making. At the beginning of this video I felt kinda bad for Dave Rubin because it’s my initial reaction anytime I see someone not standing up for themselves. Hanging out with people that think your life is a sin and your family is immoral is insane. If you could only stand up for one thing in life it should be your family! If you can’t do that because of money/greed then that’s very sad. I wonder how his family feels about it? I’m glad joe cut ties though because if you aren’t authentic and no one knows if you actually believe what you’re saying, then what’s the point of listening or having a conversation?
I think he learned a lesson that day to not ask questions if you don't want the honest answer. I actually give props to Ben for sticking to his beliefs and actually giving an honest answer.
Agreed. I also don’t think he should corner his friends on whether they approve of his life. I don’t agree with surrogacy as an industry. However, if my friend used a surrogate I would celebrate that baby and family like any other. The personal does not have to be political. I would hope my friend would respect my beliefs enough to not push me to debate their family, and I would respect my friendship and love my friend enough to not bring up my opinion of their choices.
I'm a devout Christian in Australia and I have mates who are very anti-religion; they don't think my life is a sin, they think I'm living in a fairy land. That said, everything else we get along with each other great. I also have Muslim friends, and we think each other are wrong, and living in sin, yet we are mates. Y I think this is where neo-liberal "tolerance" is so insular. The rest of the world...and the rest of history...have lived side by side with people who disagree with each other, and they don't "tolerate", they show kindness. Tolerance is apathetic, and ironically, neo-liberal toleration is more intolerant than most religions or cultures. Modern toleration is great with people being sooooo different on the outside, but not different in their thinking.

People tend to get into this identity crisis when they realize most of what they’ve believed in is a lie, but they can’t quite let go of their ego and accept that they need time to reflect and develop some self-knowledge. Most of the people who go through this aren’t conservative in any meaningful sense, they just feel urged to switch teams. You don’t just wake up “conservative” or whatever, you need to figure out what you actually believe or you’ll repeat the mistakes that elicited your initial identity crisis. My earliest memory of Dave Rubin is that he agreed with everyone, and disagreed with no one but himself if he got some push back. No spine.

Good comment
Exactly right. If he wanted to expand his role, he should have started interviewing a wider variety of people. Instead, he started commentating but it's just not his strong suit and it makes him look more like a schmuck.

@@benmeltzer
what? liberal wasnt fucking hijacked by the left, the "left" on the political compass became the home of liberals because the right wing throughout most of history has never represented free market forces, outside of immediate convenience. hell, in a lot of places conservative literally meant "pro-monarchy".

@@shadow_realm47 What's so ironic about that? That is the point. It is to get people with opposing point of view to sit down together and talk about world events. Not to sit in a echo chamber congratulating each other and patting themselves on the back. If you didn't get that just stop making comments about this subject.
Except maybe it's not true and this guy is an idiot who's creating fake gossip
I think this is where neo-liberal "tolerance" is so insular.
@@bellingdog well I’m an atheist who’s mom is Jehovah’s Witness. You don’t get much more extreme than her views. But I don’t think that’s comparable in any way to being gay and being around ppl who think you’re an abomination. In fact, this is the only time in my life I’ve ever heard anyone compare atheists and religious ppl to that of gay ppl and religious ppl. No one even knows my religious beliefs anyway and most probably never will. But if you are gay and married to a man I think it’s obvious what sexuality you are lol and my mom would have a problem with me if I was gay. I don’t think she’d even speak to me. But with Being an atheist, she still thinks there’s hope I can be “saved”. That’s another big difference.
The liberal stuff you’re getting on with I’m not sure where that came from as I didn’t say I was a liberal. But I also hang out with ppl with all different beliefs. Do you think ppl meet someone and Instantly ask their political party? You become friends and maybe down the road learn that. So I’m sure everyone hangs out with ppl of different politics and religions. But if you think being gay is a sin, more times than not you will not associate with gay ppl.
Even now, I have more in common politically with “conservatives” than any other faction, but I don’t call myself one because I’m not about to let that gaggle of morons represent me.
Excellent point.
This is easily the most perceptive, insightful, and wise assessment of this phenomenon that I've ever seen/heard someone articulate. You've absolutely nailed it.
Thank you for your eloquent description of the process and place that I'm currently experiencing.
I am 71 years old and come from an interesting background of political awareness that started before I could read.
I feel like a woman without a tribe.
No idea who Dave Rubin is, but after watching this video it seems like I'm lucky and it's for the best. Guy seems like an absolute doinker.
I love this channel! Thank you George
Props to Larry for still slinging the rooster at his age .

The regulations only matter if
A: there are enough regulators to enforce the code
B: the fine for harming people is greater than the profit earned.
Cars makers sometimes won't recall cars because the wrongful death lawsuits cost less than a recall. Same with pharmaceutical companies.
That is assuming the family of the person harmed has the money to hire an attorney and sue.
Big lolz on this one. I was upper management at a large European car manufacturer, and we had - literally - 32 people burn to death because of an electric faults in one of our vehicles... and, dude, we spent a whole fucking weekend calculating which would cost us more money. I'll give you a clue to the answer... That meeting was after 7 deaths lmao. In the end we got fined 460 million. But hey ho. You win some, you lose some.
Dude you are the only channel I have seen that can agree with these people and still call them out on there BS. Much props! I feel the same way I can agree with someone and still think they are full of it. Once they become a character they can’t think for them selves
Larry King answering his phone call about a baseball game has nothing to do with any interviewer... I can only hope that a phone call about my family in that old age would be as important as it is right then...
I fucking love how disrespectful it was to Dave and Larry could not have cared less
When Joe had to school him on why construction regulation was important I feel like that was the breaking point.
Of course we need building regulations .
Construction safety regulations are great of course, but are we sure that is what Rubin was saying to get rid of and not the insane building regulations that property owners are subject to, like not being able to put an addition on your home or catching rain water or having a garden or any number of the bullshit regulations there are?
Check out chinas buildings with no regulations that are literally falling apart.
@@jacobgagnon1820 but China runs a socialist economy with absurd fake incentives set by the government prefectures, this is completely at odds with the unregulated free market concept that Dave Rubin is proposing.. even if he's being too idealistic to be practical. No doubt Rubin is a libertarian Randian at heart.
Dave Rubin isn’t anything other than a person taking advantage of a particular group of people who want to be told “You’re right! And everyone else is wrong. “.
I saw this simp’s interview w/JRE and it was exactly what you said. One big run for cover. It’s like Dave had finally gotten on Joes show and he actually thought he knew who Joe was. He figured Joe was just some “fuck the government in every form it takes” type of guy. And that’s who he tried to play to. Of course it didn’t work out for him b/c Joes BS meter and as less clouded by the copious amounts of weed and alcohol they are otherwise regularly subjected to.
What I dislike so much is the desperate yes man he is. He doesnt have any idea outside what he thinks the other person want to hear and cowers against the minimal pushback. The texbook definition of beta male.
which what most of these right wing, red pill grifters do anyway. from pearl to andrew tate to ben shapiro and candace owens.
I mean… no matter what side you fall on (since in America you can now only be one or the other apparently) both sides are like that. Both refuse to give even an inch and everything the other side does is wrong and everything they do is right. And I doubt you’re any different, you probably think whatever “those people” is crazy and wrong and you’re not.
@@bradenharris8718 You’re assuming a lot about this guy’s beliefs. He’s just making the obvious observation that Dave Rubin is appealing to the right for money. I think that’s something left and right wingers can agree on.
I was beginning to feel bad for him since he’s always getting dogged by his “friends” for being gay, but then you hit the nail on the head: he lets it happen and never stands up for himself. He chose money over defending himself. Hard to feel bad for that
I thought you were pretty spot on, but Rubin certainly isn't the only one doing this kind of thing. I will say though Larry King was just rude taking a call in an interview, couldn't see the relevance of that.
This is the best and most well-structured critique of Dave Rubin I've ever seen. Every point you made flowed very naturally into the next, and at no point did you come across as rude or dismissive. Other people who criticize Rubin, myself included, usually just can't take the guy seriously enough to put effort into a critique, so I really appreciate your work here.
Lol guy is just off the wall with what he's talking about. Nobody has a direct issue with him being gay. That's just so fake. This guy doesn't do his research he just makes up stuff.

Dave Rubin did this one interview with PBD that was kinda weird and always stuck with me. He brought up an example while trying to explain why he thinks Donald Trump is a genuinely nice guy, where he was at a dinner and met Trump, then introduced him to his husband. To which Trump apparently reacted by going "Whoah? You're GAY? That's incredible! Hey Melania check it out, these guy's are GAY! Can ya believe it? Isn't that just wonderful?" and made a big performance that really sounded like Trump was just taking the piss and making fun of the guy. Yet Rubin thought it was this amazing proof of Trump's kind nature or something lmao
He doesn't come off as your typical gay guy. It shocked me when I found out he was gay too. Don just wanted to be real with him and still let him know he accepts him by introducing him to his wife. Stop looking for outrage where there is none.
Always remember when the tds starts a brewin, donald trump was the first president ever to support gay marriage before becoming president.
