    For 4 Yrs. now my wife and I have used mini Greenhouse with our grow lights . WE use it all through the winter inside and grow lettuce all winter & come beginning of March we start using it inside our home with our starter plants like tomatoes etc. etc. & then when May 1st. come we transplant our starters to outside garden. WE never use the greenhouse outside no need to.

    Hi first time watching your channel. We are cleaning out a spot next to our house that has full sun 7-8 hours a day. My wife said”you should build a green house there.” I jumped at the idea. Then I thought to myself what do you use a greenhouse for? The both of you did a excellent job of answering that question. Thanks. I just subscribed to your channel

    Thanks for the video on this. I’m about to receive a small, portable greenhouse so that I can expand my cut flower garden next year. Question: if you do support with additional heat when it gets very cold, what temperature does it have to get down to for you to turn it on?

    • @SpokenGarden
      @SpokenGarden  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Connie! 👋 Thank you for watching and for asking your question. Congrats on getting your small portable greenhouse! YAY! So exciting! For additional heat and knowing what temperature it needs to turn on at, it will depend on what cut flowers you want to grow and at what time of year they are growing and needing to flower. In general, to germinate seeds and for optimal growth, you will need to have your greenhouse at a consistent temperature of 65-80 degrees, but this can be different for specific plants too, so definitely check each plants germination, growing, and flowering needs. There are different ways to heat a greenhouse, especially depending on the size of your greenhouse and if you can have electricity in it. For our small greenhouse, we run an extension cord to it and then plug in a heating mat to a thermostat that we can set to keep a consistent root temperature for our plants. You can go to amaon.com/shop/spokengarden and click on the "Plant Propagation Supplies" category to see the heating mat and temperature control unit we use. If you want to keep the whole greenhouse warm, then a type of heater will be needed and there are different kinds to choose from. Some electric, some gas, and even solar, depending on what you need and have the budget for. Soooo much fun! We are really excited for you!! Thank you again for watching! 😉💪👍

    Nice video guys! ❤. So what happen if the temperature drops more? The green house can reach O degrees? Do u need a heater?. Thank you .😊

    • @SpokenGarden
      @SpokenGarden  Před 3 lety +2

      Hi Alicia! Great questions; yes we would need some kind of heater or heating mat or something to keep the greenhouse heated to help protect the plants from really cold temperatures. There are specifically built greenhouse heaters for hobby and industrial or wholesale/retail greenhouses, so some options out there. Electric or even natural gas operated (as long as it's plumbed and operated correctly) would be great heater options. We almost ran a space heater in our greenhouse using an extension cord, but decided not to because we didn't trust the heater to work for long periods of time (it's not built or designed for this). Why take chances. We found and installed a heating mat and it's doing just what we need it to. Any other plants we are bringing inside the garage overnight or putting up close to the side of the house for residual heat. Hope this helps and again, great questions! Thanks for watching and commenting! Keep your questions coming. 😉👍😃

    Hello and thank you for the video. I was looking at a greenhouse kit online and it is advertised as an indoor and outdoor green house. Does it matter where you set up the green house if it will be outside? A shaded area or it it okay to be in a sunny area. I live in Texas and shade is almost hard to find. :0)

    • @SpokenGarden
      @SpokenGarden  Před 3 lety

      Hi L! 👋 Thank you for watching and great question! It does depend on what you would use the greenhouse for, but most greenhouses are located in full sun that gets at least 6 or more hours of sun. The orientation can be east/west of north/south, depending on what plants you will have in your greenhouse and available space and land where you locate it. If it's really hot in your area of Texas and a full sun location will be too hot for the plants you want to grow in it, you can use different shade-cloths that can vary in their level of shade or try to find a location where it can be in partial shade in the afternoon/evening (hottest time of day). Hope that helps and thanks again for watching! 👍😃

    To start veggies from seed you can start seed outside in a greenhouse. Do i need a heat source? Even if ut gets under freezing? Or would i need to start seeds inside then transfer outside in greenhouse to grow until past frost.

    • @SpokenGarden
      @SpokenGarden  Před 3 lety

      Hi Angela! 👋 Great questions and super fun that you are starting seeds. 😃 For the seeds you are starting, check the packet to see if there are any specific instructions for each plant. If not, you can start seeds in a greenhouse, following any seed sowing instructions for each plant. For a heat source, it's general practice to maintain air temperatures between 55-70 degrees (Fahrenheit) (if you can), but if not you can use a heating-mat to keep the soil/roots of plants at 55 to 70 degrees during low night temps and during the day if your daytime temps are this high yet on a consistent basis. You can start seeds inside your home or garage or other inside location if you would like, OR you can start them in a greenhouse, as long as you have that warm-ish consistent temperature. It comes down to whatever you have available. Most bedding plants, in general, aren't keen on any freezing temps, so keep them inside over night (and daytime) if temperatures are still close to or at freezing until warmer weather moves into your area. There is always more we can talk about for your specific situation, so if you want to email us at seanandallison@spokengarden.com, we can talk more about any questions you might have. Thanks for watching and commenting! 😉👍😎🌞
