More hair swatches/colors would be so appreciated..... they keep adding other ways for sims to be unique, but not hair. It's annoying at this point
See those arnt features they can market as a kit/pack as those are features that should and likely would be added to base game. With that being free now i doubt theyll focus on qol features

Honestly I would love a hairstyles kit. With only cc creators or actual hairstylists and barbers designing the assets. 32 hairs, 14 for men, 14 for women and 4 gender neutral.
THIS is what I imagined when they came up with the idea for kits. THIS is what simmers want. A pack of just 30 hairs, just 30 beds, 30 romance interactions. I’m sure they would be hugely popular with simmers. They’re missing a trick.

The amount of packs TS4 releases is INSANE! I was just sorting my life out for half a year and already 5 DLC packs have been out and 4 more teased witf😂😂

riviera is the term used to refer to southern france. the french riviera is the part of france that's bathed by the mediterranean. i think that's what they're going for with that name. a southern french/mediterranean look, not necessarily a coastal look

I like the Mediterranean look of the Riviera Retreat, but why don't they just make an entire expansion pack based on more non-Western cultures? I feel like a kit is not enough... And like you said: There's no coast in the base game.
It infuriates me how they make different cultures and parts of the world into tiny little kits, and go full out on a North American inspired world that basically already exists in game😢

I wish kits weren’t themed at all, like just give us a few unique pool items maybe a basic and a, “spicy”, version and call it a day. Save themes for game and expansion packs where you can fully flesh out the vibe.
It works for CAS kits because you need a direction for fashion, not so much for build kits.
I also think kits should be the only exception to making DLC for DLC, I want the dlc we get to work well together. Having a kit for every game/ expansion pack, could give base game users a taste, while complimenting the pack it pairs with. I think it would help them feel more cohesive and give the developers a more clear direction.
Going out on a limb and suggesting the world coming with the "romance" EP is going to be France-ish. Although that would also suggest they actually did come up with a cohesive concept. (And figured out how to tack an addition 10 bucks onto the price of an EP without actually jacking the price. So EA to think 'we'll give them a Paris inspired world, but if they want a staple of Parisian life, like a bistro, they have to pay extra.' It tracks.)
Kind of what I was thinking tbh. It’s like the “My First Pet” stuff pack coming out after “Cats and Dogs” but reversed. Maybe they think we won’t notice if they give us the smaller amount of content first bc we’ll just be so excited about the larger expansion.
@aqualuvor95 And I'd actually be legit excited about a French world... I loved the one in S3. Except a) no nectar making, because I don't own Horse Ranch, and 2) it's going to be a dead world in a broken pack. I expect nothing less at this point.
I've seen speculation that the EP would be set in a world based off Mexico City, which would actually be awesome if implemented well.

Ikr? I just commented something similar, no different height diving boards, no pool floaties, no diving games, no poolside water jets, no waterslides, no nothing. Juat all same boring reskins of the same base game objects we've had since 2014.
Because water slides would require effort like creating animations much easier to sell recolors.
I mean, to be honest, I don't find that a waterslide would necessarily fit in with the vibes of the pool pack that well. I think it would be better as just a base game update to add some water slides, diving boards, floaties, pool fountains, and other pool features, possibly even an option to make an above ground pool, though they'd likely mess that up by not allowing it to be circular or something.
they could have even made water volleyball. Now that would have been creative and fun.
You know what I'd like in a pool themed kit or hell, even a pack? Water slides, different heights for diving boards, dive toys/diving/pool games, different types of pool rings, pool covers. You know things that make swinging fun rather than just being able to *lounge* by the poolside and make it *look* pretty.
Game play in Sims 4 never we have less content in 10 years than other Sims games had in 4. We still don't even have drums or a pool table it's ridiculous though that modder made a better pool table than the Sims team could ever.

Honestly the game is so broken it's difficult to feel enthusiastic about any new expansion/kit/packs. I loaded up the sims4 the other day, loaded into a household just to get to manage worlds & the loading screens took so long i just turned off the game 😵 TS1,2&3 are superior 🥰 You're not negative, you're telling the truth ❤️
Omg my entire willow creek is corrupted, it just loads a white screen, in every save file. Loading without For Rent fixed it. I’m so angry at EA for not fixing their shit!!

A bistro is a very French thing. The word IS French. It's a coffee shop-bar-simple food restaurant. You wont find hard drink, but the local wine or beer, the local cheese and pastries. Anyone noticed Grim Reaper chilling out on the bistro ?

I avoid kits, and to be honest most of anything new EA releases but I will be so pissed off if that's the case. Unless the new pack is on the same level as a sims 3 pack. I will avoid it for a year. But I'm sick of EA releasing subpar quality content, having a broken game and people will still buy it. It pisses me off more that the developers and top brass allow it and think it's acceptable.
There's literally no excuse to sell the content separately if it can and should have been in the pack and was created with the pack in mind. Especially not when cc creators always have something new and far better quality, for no monetary cost.

Those bistro chairs look extremely similar to the chairs in Paranormal. Just the paranormal chairs have a type of mesh back, but virtually the same chair design.
I see why they added no color wheel in Sims 4 how else would they sell the same object over and over again.

Why does it seem like Kits are becoming DLC for DLC? Riviera Retreat only makes sense if you have some sort of vacation destination or a European style world like Windenburg or Tartosa. Cozy Bistro (giving Hot Date vibes which I do like) only makes sense if you have Dine Out or Get Together. These build/buy Kits are becoming too stylized for a certain type of gameplay that doesn't exist in Base Game. I was cracking up at Satch explaining the behavior of Sims and how none of them would do anything like what is represented in the photo. Funny because it's true, but also sad.
I know, I'm so annoyed that the actions of the Sims from the ads aren't actually in the game. Like the poses they all make on the covers of the packs, they can't actually make in the game. It's so dumb.

I feel like in Sims 3, we used mods for *extra* bit of fun or just because someone made a nice table, and in Sims 4 people use mods out of necessity because there is no fun and it's all empty and bland.
There’s conversion mods In the sims 3 too where people have converted sims 4 features into sims 3. Like the baby carrier for infants. Modders are brilliant.
This! If it wasn’t for amazing mods, I would not play Sims 4 ever. It is such an intensely boring game. Mods are a requirement to enjoy this game.

The pool kit reminds me of an trend where pools were made to "look wild." One of the more famous was the Playboy Mansion's pool. This is a kit for "rich" sims, so think the Landgraabs lot. Oasis Springs would fit this style.
Imagine giving us a swimming pool kit without the ability to make circular pools
it is actually insane that they dont even give us the amount and quality that modders do...
For some reason the sims always want to skirt around what players actually want and have to put their own unnecessary twist. Like instead of hotel we get rentals, Highschool pack without being able to anything in class ( like passing notes, gossiping though airplane, subjects etc), or making other High-schools to have school rivalry, private schools lot trait, popularity system etc. not being able to save apartments in city living as apartments (not even a room tag for it) incomplete updates e.g split levelling; can’t use under-space or save in apartments as a complete room, terrain tool; can’t paint on steep soil, doesn’t work with basement properly and can’t go to close to the build, lastly round wall are broken.
With the kits instead of having three rocks take up an item space they have 3 rock waterfall fountains which doesn’t make it any better. I’m not a fan of kits ( by the way they’re implemented) but they could’ve just had one and use the two spaces for other items ,putting the other two rock waterfalls fountains in a different pack. They could’ve added a diving board and hammock to fill up those spaces.
I do feel these 2 kits are very close to dlc for dlc. Bistro example: restaurants are in the dine out pack and nector making is the horse ranch pack.So if you dont have those then its just furniture to make your kitchen look like a bistro?... same as the pool kit, i predict will match the esthetic of the new ep im sure of it. And goes to your point about a roman looking pool in my surburban Willow creek home.
There are plenty of places you could put in a tiny bistro. Make a bar or lounge, make a tiny dining area inside a museum, library, gym, wedding venue, park, or a generic lot. All those are base game. The bar on community lots serve some good and drinks. I’m not sure if you have to hire staff or if they just show up though.
Kit idea: just give us a kit full of simple warderobes: pretty, modern, ikea like and in different heights, for different wall heights. I would love more walk-in ones. They should have closed doors, so we can put multiple ones together.

A bar kit when bars don't work all that to well at the moment... sure makes sense. I just can't get excided for content for a game that isn't working properly. There are packs I want to buy but I just don't see the point when the game is so unstable. Mah

I have a very good name brand gaming desk top, that runs action RPGs without sweating. The sims doesn't seem to like a full household with a big house on a large lot. They just keep tee posing and resetting once you look away. Gardening is broke, plants turn into dirt piles, die randomly, or can't be weeded without cheats. Everyone just stands and stares dumbly at screaming babies for hours in game, I have to use cheats to reset them. The random crashes are also fun.
Half the time I go to a bar there is no bar tender, if they are there they just stand outside, if they come in you are lucky to get a drink in under 3 hours. It is better since they fix the bug from for rent but not fully working.
I think some of it is how I play with a big family with all the age groups, on a large full lot with lots of things going on. Maybe I shouldn't play it like that, but true be told the game is boring for me playing one sim in an apartment.

I'm just really disappointed about the Riviera Retreat. I've been waiting for more stuff for pools for such a long time. I wanted waterslides, more diveboards, and I wanted to be able to make round pools (ideally as a base game update to a new expansion pack, focusing on hotels for example). And this kit just makes me think .. ok, we probably won't get this any time soon
So many packs seem more built around people who like to pose there Sims rather than do any gameplay with them. Like the clutter in a lot if houses on the gallery are intended to make them fwel "more lived in" but in most cases they've shoved in so much with "Move objects On" a Sims actually couldn't live in it. Some people say the problem is Sims 4 is a dollhouse game, but its always been a dollhouse thw game. The problem is its just now a bunch of objects for dress-up and pose player phot taking and a virtual lego set for house builders.

Every other Sims game was about gameplay. Just like any video game. There were no CAS or Build simmers.
TS4 has been incredibly bad since the beginning. Imagine a game being so boring, people resort to a minor feature like building a house or creating a sim. The whole aesthetics focus is the clear result of Maxis making the best out of a doomed game.
When you lose your original fanbase, acquiring a new one seems like a sensible business move. Make the game Free-to-play, introduce microtransactions (Kits) and focus on content creation and you will attract a new audience. Cozy gamers with no expectations or previous Sims experience.
Maxis has deliberately sacrificed its OG simmers by completely changing the franchise. Even worse is their intend to continue like this in Project Renee.
I think many original simmers feel pushed out, ignored and unwelcome. Most of us purchased every single pack upon release. It’s just ungrateful!
That is why so many have stopped playing the game but still follow the news. We want to see this Mother burn!

in my eyes, a bistro is a mix of a cafe, restaurant, and bar..... we got the bar in basegame, so you need an expansion pack and a game pack to make an actual bistro. and if you have already bought those packs for $60, you'll have to chose between the three lot types since you cant really do a functional combination, and one of those lot types doesn't even work.

I see kits mostly as things for console players, but it's so unfair that they have to pay for the kits so they will have more items, while we on PCs can get cc for free. But they also spent less money on console than most of us did to buy PCs or laptops, so that's kinda a lesson that if you want to truly save money, you'll most likely have to spend more at first and definitely buy with future expenses in mind.
Wanna know something sad, I saw these leaks on Twitter and originally thought they were just another run of the mill cc pack until I saw this video. I mean I'm not bashing cc, most creators do a better job than EA. So basically I'm paying for something that I could get for free, but the free version would be higher quality. It really is sad seeing a game I've loved for more than half my life just go to shit.
Not everyone can or wants to use CC though. This gives more options to non Cc users.

I didn't want to deal with CC for the longest time either, but the game kept lacking and I wanted more, so I got more by downloading decent stuff I can get for free.
@@Rianna_B Especially in the clothes and make-up departments, for me. I mean really, most of the EA clothing is atrocious. I wouldn't use 75% of it-- especially the men's in general, the women's bottoms, and the shoes for either. And I wouldn't use 90% of the makeup or accessories or hairstyles (or hair colors). We need way more options than we currently get. EA needs to try harder or it's going to find that users aren't willing to continue playing or buying new packs. I myself don't even buy the packs-- my mom bought me the Get to Work pack and one more, though I don't recall which, but now I just have a version of the game I downloaded for free (and safely) that gave me all of the packs for free. I'm not paying for a half-done expansion or game pack, I'm certainly not paying for stuff packs or kits in general. And even with all of those things installed, I *still* find that I need CC. There's just not enough variety, and a lot of CC has way more swatches with better options, and I can choose ones I want so that my game isn't littered with things I don't like.
Riviera is easily mixed with the Spanish Colonial style of Oasis Springs and I think you can integrated with other "rustic" styles from Courtyard Oasis, Get Together... But I anderstand that it's like they are "wasting" a new theme in a small pack. At least this fills less "niched" than Castle Estate. I liked the Bistro kit too, but it's more interesting to have if you got the restaurant pack

My town has a French bistro in it. During the day it's coffee with baked goods and french cuisine you would have for brunch. At night, they swap over to mainly a wine and dine with famous french cuisines like escargot.
With Dine Out and/or Get Together the bistro kit could work, honestly you could probably give the Willow Creek bar a nice upgrade with it too but I agree, you shouldn’t need DLC for kits to work. One could argue the Riviera kit could work to an extent in Oasis Springs too, but Tartosa, parts of Windenburg and Sulani would work better.
I think it'll also go well the Cottage Living pub decor. It's not needed, but I feel it'll complement other stuff well.

I like the champagne bottle decoration. You could put those on a fireplace mantle if you're making a romantic setting.

Just an observation…The word ‘Riviera’ is an Italian word, and the second kit is bistro themed…my prediction for the next world would be on an Italian coastline. Possibly old Italy since the descriptions lean towards the antique side of decor.

A bistro is a type of restaurant where food is served quicker than in a regular restaurant. The word is from Russian "bystro", which means "quick". It was what veterans of Napoleon's Russian campaign would yell at the staff when they were slow serving them. In a way, it is a early 19th century version of a a fast food restaurant with alcohol. I guess the Sims 4 team thought of it as "generic French".
Bistros originated in Paris/France. I assume Russia adapted the word. It is a cognate.

Now I’m thinking the world in the new ep will be more of a Greek, Mediterranean, or middle eastern theme. I’m certain these kits are released alongside the new world intentionally. Doesn’t the pool kit look like a resort build more than a neighborhood or backyard pool? What a perfect place for a honeymoon… Also, the bistro one looks like a perfect aesthetic for a date. It seems like they took things out of the new ep and put them in a kit. Or at least made things in the new kits that will make you more eager to buy them to go with the new pack features.

With the new xp being about romance & 1 of the kits having Riviera in it's title I wonder if it's going to come with a world based on the French Riviera or something like that area that's supposed to be very romantic
There’s so much free content that looks better than that!
At this point, they need to explain themselves … like “proceeds from these items will go to fund repairs on XYZ bugs/packs by a specific date”, etc. etc.
I am leaning more towards the new expansion maybe being based in France. French Riviera (new kit possibly geared towards) is a mediterranean coastline in Southern France. Bistro/Cafes make me think of France. Also Paris is known as the city of love (romance type expansion). Just my guess and these kits are making me think this even more. I am probably totally wrong lol.
I want a ceiling kit! So we can have depth to our ceilings in a posh way.
These kits I feel aren’t for the base game per se, it’s more likely to serve as add ons for the romance pack which is going to be a European-Parisian world. This is just EA up selling content from the EP that didn’t make it unfortunately 🙃

The Cosy Bistro kit looks interesting but the exterior shot really does highlight that we need to have "live-in" businesses as a base game mecahnic without Mods, as a nice little bistro as the ground floor with a flat or two above would make so much sense (likewise with shops, making them a bit more ingrained in the world, seeing as how you don't actually need them to get new outfits, furniture, etc).

I'm actually kind of stoked for the Riviera Retreat kit. I've wanted to do a more grotto style swimming pool for ages, so the waterfall rocks are PERFECT for that, and feels very appropriately sized for a kit rather than like a stuff pack which I could also see EA cash grabbing for.

Yeah same, especially because I like Mediterranean style houses (I have a tiny obsession with anything Spanish, to be specific) and I feel like this pack would look really nice in Tartosa. I think the vibes will fit that perfectly, and I can finally add a pool without it ruining the style of the house (not that they ever look that good anyway lol, I suck at building, even though I try).

Of course there’s coasts in the basagame. Oasis Springs could be located by the sea. Willow creek maybe as well but I guess it’s more likely to be at a lake.
Riviera is also a style, not just a place. You can have a house with riviera vibes or dress is riviera fashion

I still think these kits are meant to work with the world that will come with the new expansion kit (so to get the full world you have to buy all three? Sounds like EA). Both kits have kind of a “French Mediterranean” kind of feel to me.
I think it’s interesting that you pointed out base game doesn’t have a coast because it really shows how much the Sims missed the mark on making Willow Creak inspired by New Orleans. New Orleans is on the Golf Coast and is surrounded by water. This pool kit unfortunately doesn’t fit in Willow Creek. However, I think this Cozy Bistro kit is trying to play into the New Orleans French Quarter aesthetic but they’re taking a more sultry approach with this kit, unlike what base game currently has.
Thank you for your review and I agree! The bistro fine, but the pool thing? The only thing I saw there that I was like "That's nice" was the stone fountains as I like to build realistic ponds in the gardens but I'm not paying that amount of money for a rock.. Nope.
I'll make use of that tent like thing in the riveira right away i have a build that needs something like that. i view all these kits as just giving me more legos to build stuff with, i dont think its expecting us to mostly just use those parts in many designs rather mix them in with all the others and use whatever you need in the moment
I like the looks of both these kits. The Bistro reminds me of the Bakery from Sims 3 store. You do have a point about the castle and Moroccan kits. The case should have been a stuff pack with interior pieces, Can you imagine a grand fireplace for it, or a huge dining table? I would have loved more pieces for Morocco.
I think both kits leads up to the new world in the next expansion which will be a French world.
You can also make a cofehouse for using that Bistro set. Why it always have to be drinking wine and have a bar?
They need to fix the base game who TF is like "yeah they need more kits"?!?
I find this way more useable than Courtyard Oasis. Imma make a public pool lot in Oasis Springs with this kit!
Edit to add: I was only partway through the video and was specifically talking about Riviera Retreat as I totally forgot the bistro kit was a thing. Like, it looks cute, but I'm WAY more hyped about finally getting some new pool trims that won't look weird in the sandy, dusty landscape of Oasis Springs.
No, because that's so real haha. I feel like all of the pool trims and items are just so out of place in Oasis Springs and Tartosa, which definitely feel more Mediterranean than anything else. It always ruins my (already mediocre) builds. The Riviera pack will be useful.
@@salientspoon3789 Exactly! The stone trims from Get Together are cool for other climates, but none of the color swatches are right for a more desert or Mediterranean vibe. It's always too gray or too green.
For the pool kit... I wish they would have not added the furniture and only had things for the pool. Such as I wish they would have added a regular water slide and traditional style diving board, also another style of water feature would have been nice. I am tired of getting furniture, I feel like they lack creativity... If they must add furniture why not wow us with the design. At this point everything is so predictable. I do like the bar kit, wish it had better quality on the furniture though, the chairs look really bad graphically. :/ But, I do like the wall prints and the door- windows.
I’m with you on the theming being so limited with a kit that’s precisely why I never purchased the Mediterranean kit - I love the aesthetic but I can’t really see using it outside of making a fancy courtyard in oasis springs :(
Many of us are builders and own all/most packs. I love these. They look amazing and compliment the rest of the packs very well. This is my ONE hobby. I make my own coffee at home so I'll gladly pay the $5 for cute new items to build houses. It makes me happy :)
Right? Lately I’m building more than actually playing with the gameplay. I have all the packs and love new content to play with.
Actually the Bistro kit would go good if you have Dine Out and the Dine Out Reloaded mod, cause it now includes functionality for the bars, so if you have those 2 things, making a Bistro is good and will work good.
Possibly new lot venue called Bistro where the lot functions BOTH as cafe in day, and bar at night? Nah, that would be too much for the kit makers in Europe. 😀 (I recalled that EA did outsourced the kits to an European studio)

They released the Country Kitchen kit just before Cottage Living. Thinking these kits will fit with the new EP similarly. Not official DLC for DLC.

I like the look of the bistro kit with more build stuff, not just buy. I think I does actually fit in with the new orleans inspired base game. Like you say a bistro is a restaurant, so I think it would be better as a restaurant or cafe lot, but I think they are trying to justify it.

I like that they can sit by the pool but yea not great options and you can't put the bisto in any of the cute rabbit hole towns like in the downtown area of Cottage Living and Wedding Stories

I absolutely LOVED those pool waterfalls that came with island paradise in the sims 3. wish this one came with the same gameplay but i highly doubt it since this is a kit (and we all know the sims 4 is perfect at downgrading existing items from the sims franchise!)

Tbh I would definitely rather fewer kit/packs with better/bigger updates, bug fixes, kits and/or packs. I feel like they always rush to put out packs and stuff. Last year for example, we got a lot of new things but a lot of it came with bugs or it just ended up feeling lacking. I feel that if EA just took their time and focused on one thing at a time we would be getting so much more for better. They need to stop releasing so much stuff that no one is asking for.
