  • The name Wernher Von Braun is well-known for two primary reasons: his ground-breaking work on rocketry that landed man on the moon, and his work at a concentration camp as a Nazi under Adolf Hitler. But he's also known for a third reason - his work with Walt Disney himself. But how did a former Nazi rocket scientist end up working with Walt Disney, and what did they work on?

We won't know until we reach the end of the story, will we? By the way, Von Braun was instrumental in the American anti-ballistic missile program - inventing a defense against his own prior invention, the V2 rocket - before he took over the Saturn rocket program at NASA. P.S. - I had two great-uncles in WW II: one was a medic in Africa-Italy-Europe and the other one was an infantryman who fought the Japanese in the South Pacific.

@@h2w25 You haven’t displayed knowledge of the belt or offered a rational counter argument mate. Getting past the belt is like quickly touching a hot surface with a glove. Go Fast Didn’t stop immediately either, while spinning the rocket engines stopped, the spinning was at constant speed and was halted suddenly due to a altitude activated yo-yo D spin mechanism which unspun a weight. Also, the bottom half separated after a C4 detonation separated it just after the spinning halting mechanism kicked in, hence the “ping” sound. Both happened in close time period which gives the impression that the rocket slammed into a wall.

I'm austrian and both of my grandfathers were part of the Wehrmacht in WWII. I dont want to rehabilitade them for being indoctrined when they were kids in their 20ies but i didnt know less about those three movies Wernher von Braun did with Walt Disney until i've seen an episode of Ancient Aliens a few years ago. We never talked much in our family about the nazi regime, to be honest. It was all dig down in their frozen hearts because of fear, loss and shame. From my point of view, its always easy to say 80 years later, that we would have been part of the resistance...but I dont think so. I love my country and the germans, who has a very solid heritage nowadays...the TV programm is full of episodes why things happened that way and why it was wrong. I mean, look over to the italians...there it's still possible to remember Benito Mussoulinis birthday openly on the streets. In austria you would go to prison because of nazi reanactment. One last thing: I guess Wernher von Braun was a scientist in first place...he new he stoud on the wrong side of history but he was realist enough to know that the nazis would have killed him if he wouldnt have worked for them. I guess one of the reasons aside his knowledge why the armies took him, was that he told them that he didnt have a chance to stay alive. Nowadays, the idiots say that you always have a chance. But who am I to say so?

My understanding is he REALLY wanted to develop a space-capable vehicle and eventually go to the moon.
The only way to get funding for the research and development was through the government, and the only entity in the government that would fund such a project was the military.
It just so happens that the technology is exactly the same, whether you're launching bombs or people
But I've also read that the guy was actually pretty serious about the ideology too. He was terrified of being captured by the Soviets, so he hid out for a while and intentionally let himself be found by the Americans.
