About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK and Escape to rural France to restore this beautiful building to its former glory.

The green is the perfect colour and is not distracting from the cupboard
Thanks Rea 🥰🥰
Just my thought. Terry nearly aleays has the right idea and it always looks beautiful. Let him be him . To many voices crowds out his magic. Well done the room does look so beautiful
Thanks Kathi 🥰
I'm guessing though if he didn't want suggestions he wouldn't ask for them!! It shows that lots of people are really engaged with the château and they have often taken on board suggestions and been grateful for them... one more thing....white bedding every time!!!love it.!!!
That cabinet would be a great place to put an extra blanket and pillow, too. Every nice hotel has these in a cupboard so that the guest doesnt have to ask for them.
Boy does that green velvet look stunning inside the cabinet. Great choice! A small gold & green braid seems fitting.
The tapestry in the frames feels so authentic in the room. Just allowing people to travel back in time with such luxury.
Incredible vision with stylish cohesion... great job!!
Just lovely❤❤
The mist around the chateau was so picturesque. Like a fairytale. I love the tapestry’s in those frames. Beautiful. Terry I honestly don’t think you need advice about anything. Everything you do turns out perfect. ❤❤❤❤
Yes… I always love the choices made by Terry. I don’t know his life history but decorating with history standards seems to be his thing. I have even stolen some of the chateaus ideas in my home. I’m rustic antique farmer in Washington state and it’s funny because our weather reflects yours so often. I love old things and am hoping to visit some places sometimes like yours in the future. Can I humbly suggest looking at various shrub willows in the gardens back. They are so beautiful flowing in breezes and the spring flowering varieties can be beautiful. Mine are pink and I enjoy them so much… through my kitchen window and when out frolicking 😀 The Bees like them as well!
@@laurariley308 Thankyou for the lovely comments. I’m in the UK and live quite near to where Terry and his family are originally from. I enjoy their chateau story mainly because they do the majority of the work themselves. They are such hard workers
@@laurariley308 thank you Laura 😊😊❤️
I think the rich dark green in the wardrobe is so regal looking. You don’t need to trim out the panels, sometimes less is enough. Love it! ❤
At the risk of sounding like a sycophant, I love everything you all do.
❤ from TX!
I love how meticulous Terry is! Good job, Tracy!
I like the velvet without the trim, speaks for itself 😊
I like the idea of the tapestries in the bedroom. As a fiber art artist, please take the glass off the front. The tapestry must breathe. As temperatures fluctuate the fibers rub against the glass and wear. Hard on those old tapestries. Such art does better without coverings. It looks so good! Congratulations.
Thanks frank 🥰
Always take the glass out when framing my embroidery projects. Didn't know that applied to all fiber arts. .Takes away from the dimension of the piece .too.
Oh! Thank you. I thought it would protect my quilt piece. 😊 I will have to take care of that!
Guys the room looks fab!! & the green velvet in the wardrobe is the perfect color choice. It's elegant, everything goes with green & you don't have to consider changing it seasonally because green is appropriate for all seasons.😊
The little details really add to the great work you all do. High five Ash, Terry and Tracy.
Thanks so much Ed 🥰
Very nice! Room feels much more spacious without wardrobe. I’m glad you didn’t block the window
Thank you 🥰
The green velvet looks wonderful. Beading around the edges would be a splendid addition.
Thanks Joan 🥰🥰
I agree
Madame vous êtes d’une patience irréprochable et d’un dextérité qui vous permet de restaurer tout ces beaux meubles pour une seconde vie ,bravo💪💪😉👏💜👍💚j’adore
Merci Mary 🥰🥰
Absolutement!
Patrick and Stewart's wardrobe looks so amazing in that placement and cleaned up brilliantly. The added touch of green velvet is so in tune with all the intense details of every room!❤
I love the velvet in the wardrobe! Now to find the lion & the witch...
Haha. Off to Narnia!! 🥰🥰
We started a drinking game that when we hear the word “sorted” we do a shot…. We were all passed out on the floor in the first 5 minutes! 😂
😂😂😂😂🤦🤦
“Crack on”is the phrase I use for the drinking game. 😂
I enjoy reading the comments from the professionals who give great advise to the rest of us who just love the process. ❤
Thanks Gretchen 🥰
Love the green velvet, it doesn’t need more detail.
Thanks Ellen 🙏🥰
The hunters green is very posh. It’s the best choice.
Thanks Pat 🥰
It’s very difficult for an Artist to know when to stop. Terry…it’s stunning, beautiful and perfect!!! Rest and enjoy. From Texas
Tapestry & frames are perfect for the 400 suite which now looks more spacious & inviting. Mum is polishing the cabinet which looks fantastic & the green fabric is perfect choice too. Well done 👏👏 Edited comment: I like the cabinet as is with green velvet & no additional detail - simple elegance.
I love the green velvet in the wardrobe. I'm also glad that you kept the wood trim visible, it makes the inside look much nicer.
You'll definitely find a new spot where that beautiful wardrobe can show its splendour. That corner now without wardrobe is so much better, more elegant. Real improvement.
Thanks Wanda 🥰🥰🥰
Patrick and Stuart could really use one of those rotary polishing brushes! It does a marvelous job.
LOVE the drone shots with the fog ❤❤
JUST what I was thinking when they did their new headboard!
So glad to see the fire screen removed from in front of the radiator. Room looks so much better without it. Green velvet in soon to be wardrobe very elegant and IMO doesn't need trim nor voile - the elegance is in its simplicity.
It looks perfect, no opinion needed from me on design, you’re all doing an amazing job 🙏🏻 🇬🇧
I know everyone has opinions, but my opinion on the room is about the bedding. For aesthetic reasons and for practical reasons, you may want to seriously consider white sheets and duvet covers. There is a reason why hotels use white sheets - much easier to clean and bleach - and easier to replace any damaged pieces (a pillow case or a fitted sheet. I also think it would bring in some brightness to the room. You can always add a lovely throw blanket and decorative lumbar pillow to bring in some additional color and cozy to the bed. Everyone loves crawling into crisp white hotel sheets 😍
Thank you
White would be both predictable & boring as hell .
Stick with colors & simply do antique throws etcetera.
& here’s a shocker , you can actually replace colors with other ;( get ready for it ) colors .
@@mignoncat1That really wasn't necessary...
I run Guest accommodation and I use all designer bedding Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein Nautica , none is white all is patterned and far nicer than white .
I think they are doing a great job decorating, it’s not a Best Western so considering checking in at a historical chateau suite I would be quite happy feeling royal and pampered in a bed thathas colours from that period…
I think you should just leave the green backing plain so the beauty of the cabinet stands out. There is no embellishment on that piece of furniture - the architecture alone stands out beautifully...a peaceful interior of the cabinet lends itself to putting clothing inside without thinking they are on display. Kudos to a beautifully done job 👋
Thank you 🙏 ☺️
@@chateaudelalacelleI think the green looks so much better than any red could. Please don't 'embelish' the cabinet it would be detracting and not go with the Voile you are going to put inside of it. The springing curtain wires held up with hooks at the top and bottom holding the Voiles up. Would look great.
The green in the cabinet is a ❤️perfect choice. It’s beautiful. Love every design choice you make.
The green velvet in the wardrobe is stunning Terry, and Tracy. That is a really good choice.
Boy, that cabinet looks so different now.
Thanks Susan 🥰
I just love the room minus the wardrobe and the chair in the corner and pictures. the velvet look perfect in the cabinet. the suite is looking beautiful.
The wardrobe looks amazing, honestly I wouldn't change a thing! No trim , no frosted glass, nothing
It's amazing and perfect as is.
Add some lovely brass coat hangers and it's all gold!
Everything is looking so beautiful, I love the bottle green inside the wardrobe, it looks so classy, you made a beautiful job polishing it up Tracy, I bet it smells amazing! Thank you so much as always for sharing your incredible work with us, it is very much appreciated indeed. With lots of love to you all From Aberdeenshire ❤🤗xxx
If I'm not mistaken, isn't the white room where the wardrobe is now the "entrance" to the suite? If so, then the guest would have the entire 3 rooms to themselves so having their clothes in the wardrobe there is fine! Perhaps a layout diagram to show people what the 400 and 401 suites look like 👍🏼 awesome work the 2 of you!!
The changes are brilliant. The room is more balanced and the furniture won't get banged up as much because the flow is improved. You have put so much work into those rooms. Most people will respect the area but, there may be a few who won't. I'm not trying to be negative, just realistic. Great job.
Just FYI, the spray adhesive will eventually seep through. I used to do conservation.
Thank you, it is a heavy upholstery fabric so has a backing on it so hopefully will not come through 🤞🥰🥰
Love the tapestries in the frames and love the wardrobe with the green velvet.
The armoire looks like a jewel box now! I love the choice of green velvet. ❤
The velvet looks good as is, but what the cabinet really needs is a few ferns on top. When you look at period photos of Edwardian interiors there is foliage everywhere, so a few brass catchepots with big leafy ferns would really finish off the space.
Hi Tracy, Ashe & Terry, The changes that you have made look so much better. You'll find a better place for both pieces. Mark & Scott
Beautiful. I know many opinions are with well intentions but do what makes your heart sing and don’t worry about all of the voices. This is your home, your hard work and your taste. It’s all stunning. xx
Lining the wardrobe in green rather than red is a good idea, your professional approach to everything even gardening is spot on.
I love the dark green. Perhaps you can put the old coat rack in hallway by the stairs for people to hang things before they enter their suite.
Je suis admirative de tout votre travail de restauration murs , tableaux lustres etc...💪👍👏
Gorgeous! Everything is so tasteful. The room looks more comfortable with less furnishings.
Looking fab. Everyone will now be velvetising their wardrobes Terry 😊❤❤❤❤
I really love the tapestry pictures you have hung where the wardrobe used to be.They are perfect for that spot.
Time...time is what we all need more of and you are utilizing yours brilliantly. It's a beautiful suite. Bravo!
I think the cabinet you’re working on looks really good and as long as the guests have a nice place to hang their clothes I don’t think it matters if it’s not in the actual room. Looking beautiful and a thin gold edging would finish it off nicely 😊
Really love the framed tapestries.
Thanks Ellen 🥰
Love the green velvet❗️
Thanks you as always Amy 🥰
@@chateaudelalacelle 💚
Amazing 😊What a wonderful job you all have achieved so far. I can see the grand old lady smiling❤️
Thank you so much! 🥰
The wardrobe is lovely as it is - no rope detail!
Less is more 😉
I think the wardrobe is perfect as is.
The green velvet looks amazing, elegant and suave. I don’t think you need any embellishments. Superb.
Terry darlin , you are on it . Fabulous. I love the wardrobe, I love your new tapestries and the velvet in the new wardrobe. Excellent. I also think being the perfectionist you are to put a tiny trim around the velvet is what you'll end up doing to finish it off . X
The Hat stand would work well at the top landing of the 1st floor
Love the green velvet in the wardrobe. I think a small golden trim will give it a grandeur look. 😘🥰
The picture frames with the tapestries are beautiful Terry, and the changes you and Tracy made to the cabinet are stunning the velvet interior, Wow 🎉 ❤
Terry you’re so inspiring, you inspire me just go on and try things. To not be daunted to cut something or try to redo something. Nothing fazes you!
Thanks Christine 🥰
I love the new cabinet in the suite. You should consider silvering the back of the glass to make the doors mirrored. It can always be removed later if you find another purpose for the cabinet. I think the glass is beveled which is why silvering rather than just installing mirror. It would look like it was always there.
Thanks Debra 🥰
Your instincts are bang on.....add the small trim to finish off the inside of the wardrobe edges. Your attention to details is what makes all your designs so special and exceptional!
Love the green in the wardrobe great choice of colour. Love the framed tapestries by the way Terry. Another terrific video
Amazing work, as always and I so enjoy watching - what about sourcing some really beautiful old, heavy linen French sheets and pillowcases for the rooms with that lovely embroidery on them - would look amazing, and surely there must be a few in all the brocantes? If not ebay has them i think. Keep up the amazing work, you are all brilliant.
Thank you 🙏 ☺️
eBay has lots of beautiful vintage linens
This is the room you take a break in when you feel discouraged! Liz
Seeing the vintage frames that fit in the panels perfectly make my OCD quite happy ❤
A gold trim in the cabinet would look lovely.
Hard working woman, WOW🎉🎉🎉
Thank you 🙏 ☺️
The green velvet looks great. The tapestries look lovely ❤
Thank you! 😊
Good choice going green velvet inside the cabinet, looks great 😊
Just love the velvet inside the new wardrobe, it's such a brilliant idea ❤
I love all the details you are adding in.
The cabinet looks like it was made for that room. The velvet....ooh la la. If you put trim on it, I would use something simple. It's gorgeous 🥰
Thanks Amy 🥰🥰
Consider putting a tiny piece of quad, prepainted gold, to frame the green velvet - luxury!😊
The bedroom looks amazing. Taking out the wardrobe lets that beautiful bed take center stage. The wardrobe you had in there is a beautiful piece and I'm sure you will be able to use it elsewhere. The green is perfect and I think your idea of a bit of small roping would be a great addition. Job well done!
Thanks Joyce 🥰🥰
That bookcase would still look much as a bookcase for the guests full of interesting book’s and the wardrobe back in the bedroom full of their coats
Lovely changes to the space! Thank you for sharing your work. Have a great few days.
Great teamwork! So nice to see! 👍
Thank you 👍
Terry, your taste is impeccable. Thank you for the explanation on the placement of the artwork in the bedroom. See you next week.
Thanks Ramona 🥰
Absolute perfection! Just some little changes elevated the entire suit.. Good work
The hall cabinet is so beautiful now! Polish made a huge difference. I think a thin trim would look great around the velvet.
I agree. A win-win. It just keeps looking better and better.
Green fabric looks like a pool table.
I so agree with Mel (below): Terry you do everything with such good taste and finesse. Re. the extra definition/detailing of the borders of the velvet against the wood paneling. I really feel that in this case less is more; i.e., understated ambience inside the wardrobe, rather than opulence. There is already plenty of embellishment on the wardrobe's exterior, and elsewhere in the room. The inside of the wardrobe does not need to be a focus. You want people to use it to hang their clothes in there. If you put some decorative braid, or even same fabric piping, despite if being very narrow, it will be covered by their clothes when in use, and distract from the exterior embellishment when there are no clothes within it.
If the rope is small, and the same color as the velvet, I think it would just look more professional. IMO
To me the tiny bits of unavoidable edge I can see is distracting, and a tiny matching rope would just make it blend with the wood better.
Wardrobe inside lovely. I learn something with every video. You are not afraid to try something. The room and hall beautiful.Well done you and Tracy.
OMG!! The velvet in the cabinet was an amazing idea!!
Loving the finishing details...
the green velvet is beautiful... and the wardrobe with clean class is stunning!
The devil is in the details.. and you have really done it with the finishing details!
CONGRATS.
Thank you so much Kenn 🥰🥰
Yeah for the green velvet putting a trim around the edges of the velvet would finish it off nicely.
The cabinet in the bedroom just did work in terms of symmetry…you made right decision..
Der Schrank sieht toll aus👍
Mit dem dunkelgrünen Samt ein echtes Schmuckstück.
Gute Arbeit👍
I laughed out loud I must admit because watching you fit the green velvet I thought “I wonder how long it’ll be before Terry puts some trim around the edges, he’s never going to leave it plain” And you didn’t disappoint! Brilliant job as always especially on those picture frames. Thanks for explaining why the big one couldn’t go where others suggested. How kind of a subscriber to send the tapestries 💕👏💕👏💕 We all love you to bits and enjoy your videos so much. Thank you xxxx Alexandra in Florida.
In order to secure the edges of the velvet lining I would definitely add a very fine wooden trim.
I think a very thin gold trim on the edges of the velvet would be really nice.
The details in both rooms is gorgeous
Love from
West Central Texas
🙏🏼💜
Thanks Karin 🥰
When you found the green velvet you were unsure how you were going to use it. I believe it has found it's way. Nice touch!😊
Beautiful musical selection!
I love the green velvet in the armoir. Gold rope trim would really make it more exquisite. It is fine without just the same. The frames with the tapestries are perfect. You all do excellent work. The polished armoir turned out georgeous. ❤
I love the green in the wardrobe it looks so smart.
