    A tip on the cots is buy the round or square floor protectors used under furniture legs. Put the under your cot legs to protect the tent floor.

    Someone else may have already mentioned this, but you don't want your ground sheet (tarp) to extend beyond the outline of the tent. If it rains, rain will gather on the exposed edges of the ground sheet and run under the tent eventually soaking through the tent's "tub" and filling your tent with water.

      Is your Colman cot firm? I have bought several cots so far as they either sag or the cot shifts everytime I roll over. I want a cot that is hard like wood, with legs that don't shift under my (light) weight. I put a nice thick foamy on top.

    My Boyfriend (Bryan) and I are always talking about camping, if we aren't talking about it, or actually camping, we are watching other people camp on CZcams! We like to say that we are "ate up with the camping!" I am so glad that I stumbled upon your channel! You two are the closest to our style of camping that we have found yet AND you call pieces of cedar, "Sniffing Sticks" as do we! Anytime we go camping, Bryan whittles us some sniffing sticks! Cedar really is the best ever smell and can transport you back to the campsite in an instant! Anyway, thanks for sharing your camping life with us!

    My boyfriend and I recently discovered (admitted to ourselves) that a 2 person tent is too small for us. We both toss and turn and basically need to sprawl out, which a 2 person tent does not allow. Recently, I decided to start setting up the back of the hatchback as a bed while he gets the tent. While I like sleeping in a tent, I also like being warm (we are often camping above 8,000 feet so it gets cold at night even in the middle of summer).

    • @CodyandKellie

    My husband and I like to sleep together on an air mattress on a platform with a double thermarest that makes it more stable. We have 12 man tent that is so roomy. We can put tables and chairs inside. We stay in places usually for more than one day. The tarp on the outside of the tent is a no no. If it rains the water goes between the tent an tarp there for getting everything on the floor wet.

    • @CodyandKellie
      @CodyandKellie  Před 4 lety

      Y’all’s setup sounds great. We normally roll our tarp under the tent when bad weather is coming, and unroll it when it not. Forgot to talk about that in this vlog. Planning on doing a updated one later on.

    Back to enjoy this video. The 6-person size looks great. I'd have one side, and a table with ham radio equipment would have the other side. I've found good reviews on a 6-person pop up tent, and it's the OT QOMOTOP tent. EDIT: My list is now around $600 for items to go camping. The parts and pieces add up quickly. I may have an opportunity in September, and likely in October, for a couple of nights away.

    very nice set up... since you camp a lot have you ever considered putting a 100 watt solar panel on the top of your truck connected to a deep cycle battery at Walmart. Charge controllers and panels are real cheap on eBay. Then it can run you fan, lights and charge phones and laptops. It can also run an electric refrigerator so you don't need ice or heavy coolers.

Just like you I have a tent and two, newer design, army cots they are light and comfortable if I add a sleeping pad it's better than home, I sleep like a baby . Try taking biodegradable bags and some wood pellets (pine) from a pet store and line the bag inside your loo about 2 inches with the pellets. 1. You will make less of a thunderous sound when you pee in the middle of the night near other tents. 2. The pine pellets greatly reduce smell and absorb the moisture. You can them discreetly dump bag in garbage instead of lugging the entire loo to the campground outhouse. Biodegradable bags important for thr environment. Also using the bags mean the plastic of your loo doesn't start to absorb the bad smells.

      I just sold the trailer I was scammed with a month ago. Dry rot and mold. Had to sell half price with full disclosure to handyman. It left yesterday and I am going back to tent camping. So much less hassle. No winterizing to do, no black tanks, no checking wheel bearings, no awkward backing up...
      And you can switch things out without breaking the bank.

    So Jealous, you are so young and get to go so much. Have been watching your blog and really enjoy them. Im about three hours from the Ouachita's and would enjoy backwoods camping but she has to have a inside toilet and shower (so sad) A friend turned me onto putting a cotton Painters dropcloth on the floor of the tent. I tried that, then went to carpet. I probably over pack because we have a small truck and a 6x10 trailer we pack with everything including the kitchen drainer (haha) We do a lot of Dutch oven cooking and sleep in a 8 person tent. (love the space but hard to find flat space that large) Thanks for sharing your trips. Keep enjoying life. from a new viewer at 64 years young. Ps. Favorite spot is Wichita Mountains Refuge (where you can now make reservations)

    You shouldn't leave the tarp sticking out, if it rains it defeats the purpose as the rain will pool on the tarp between it and your tent.

      @CodyandKellie  Před 4 lety +4

      Thank you for watching. We wish we had covered that in this video, but forgot. We went over it in another one later on. We only leave it out when there is no rain to have a place to set our shoes outside the tent. When we expect rain we fold it under the tent.

    agree with the air mattress, not so much it gets cold but the air slowly leaks out through the night. I now have a beautiful cot from LL Bean. (Only place I buy gear from ( ok occasionally from REI). But the tent we have is too small. So I am looking for a new bigger tent. Your cot is very similar to mine too with the bag which makes it so easy to carry. Great video and gave me some good ideas. Probably won't be able to camp this summer. I have cancer so I can't be too far from home just in case and I have to stay away from people, which camping is not that hard. thank you. I subscribed and will try to watch more of your video's

    Do you have a blog on what you would suggest if you fly somewhere and want to camp? I'm curious if I want to try to put it on in a large suitcase and pay $100 checked luggage fee, or if I just buy new stuff where I go. Renting is expensive.

    Good tips.
    This summer we used my small old tent from the mid eighties. My partner thought that it was too cramped and uncomfortable.
    So I have now bought a new 5-person tent with full standing height and a small living room area.
    We have bought inflatable pads but I am also considering cots.
    Do you have any tips what to consider when selecting cots?

      Thank you so much for your kind words and watching! We lay it down on the ground first then place the tent over it. If we expect rain we roll it under the tent. Here is a video we have done about setting up our tent. czcams.com/video/Xb27Zaf4itA/video.html

    • @livableincome
      @livableincome Před 3 lety

      The tarp does need to be folded under the tent completely so you can hardly see it from the outside. Otherwise rain or heavy dew will soak the bottom of the tent.

    Thank you for this video. As someone who is just getting into the camping thing, I am very interested in using the cot set up inside the tent. What issues have you run into as far as moisture/water goes with this set up?

    • @CodyandKellie
      @CodyandKellie  Před 2 lety

      Our tents have no leaks. The cots get wet so we just remove all bedding and let them air dry before packing them away
