We are born with perfect hearing as babies- 20 Hz to 20,000. As we get older it is perfectly normal to start losing our hearing from the ends a little bit, usually around the 16,000 Hz mark by age 18. As we get older this decreases even more

I guess some people's ears age at different speeds; I'm 31 years old (and a musician / music connoisseur who often listens to *Pink Floyd* and *Coheed and Cambria* with earbuds turned up way too loud, so it's not a matter of taking care of my ears), and can hear up to at least 17000. Maybe more, but I can't tell with these headphones, as they have some kind of reversal where 17000-20000 sound like they're going *DOWN* in frequency instead of up. My other pair do that too, but start decreasing at about the 16000 point rather than 17000, so I don't have a better frame of reference...
