What? You wanna send stuff to me!? Angry Cops PO Box 1153 Buffalo NY 14201
Do you work at a job where you get memo after memo, or email after email? The boss could just send a text but noooooo! Most of these updates are totally unnecessary, but here we are. Reading another handful of useless emails. The Army is no different.

Did anyone else see that the LTs memo was dated 25 Dec? So this fool is definitely "in charge" for Christmas. I would hope that when the company commander gets back from vacation, holds a formation and after welcoming everyone back, pulls this memo out of his back pocket rips it up while yelling "Death before Dismount"

I am OLD school - late in my career I was stuck as an Anti-Submarine Analyst on the Carrier for 2 years instead of FLYING - we worked hard at our job AND to stay in Rescue Swimmer shape (12 hour shift at a console)... ONE of the Rescue Swimmers put on POUNDS and we teased him - nicknamed him "StayPuff"... he got butt-hurt and whined to the Commodore late one evening
Commodore looked at him for a minute - "Stop your whining StayPuff". PRAISE the Good Old Days - then came the icing on the cake - the Commodore's Master Chief is standing there - grabs a phone and dials the CAG (Carrier Air Group) PR Shop (Flight Gear) and asks the PRC to embroider up a "StayPuff" nametag for the guy's flight suit - the Commodore just grinned and left.

Messed up my shoulders while I was in, and someone in battalion had the same "great" idea to ban doctors appointment/sickcall in the mornings unless it was "the emergency room". But I was out of the muscle relaxers they had prescribed for the physical therapy course they put me on. They had told me to just come back and get more so my doctor could do a mid course checkup, and they had set the appointment for the same effective day as the new "no more appointments". So i called them and told them my command was barring appointments unless it was the emergency room, they went "okay, whats your pain scale right now? Is it interfering with daily life? Okay, go to the emergency room right now." Told my first sergeant they ordered me to the emergency room, and then went. Explained the same to them, they were like "stupid, but yeah theyre right this pain isnt normal". Took like 6 hours, come back with a quarters slip and writeup to hand them, and the muscle relaxors i needed to sleep.
At that point, my shoulders made audible grinding and pops whenever I moved them, and I had lost a large amount of mobility. Since ER visits are reportable to higher command, very suddenly they sent out a rush of emails saying "this policy was not meant to interfere with Servicemembers medical conditions, blah blah blah" it was just "to encourage servicemembers to discuss issues with their leadership beforehand" and all the other backpedelling im sure youll see if you get a follow up AC.
Doing this is always a GREAT idea, until you have to implement it, and suddenly you have to OWN it. Thats usually when all of a sudden you "misinterpreted" and they "just want to clear up some misconceptions about the new policy..." and "the old policy will be put into effect until clearer guidance on our intent is drafted and published"

(What we called him) get everything straightened out… no joke, after that, that Lt turned into one of the best officers I ever worked with. He never gave anyone busy work, and was just flat out logical and real when it came to details (smokers, yes I was one at the time, were tasked with picking up butts in the parking lots), if you busted your ass all week, he sent you home by noon on Friday mission permitting… minimum once a month he BBQ’d for his troops, and all “voluntold” volunteer work, he and your supervisor were standing next to you. Amazing guy. 26 years later, only worked with him for 2 years at my first base and I still remember his name and what he looked like.

Fun fact: The LT is almost always going to be outranked by the doctor. If the doctor wants you to come to an appt at PT time and you say no LT said you cant, the Captain or higher most military doctors are can override him and order you to appear which LT can't override.
My LT discovered this fact a few decades back. He wrote a policy saying we must answer the phone or call back within 30 minutes 24/7/365. Problem being aircrew have crew rest and maintenance crew have mandatory rest periods assigned by the highest ranking person in the military. So his new policy was illegal and if you followed it you're violating the UCMJ because you not only can't follow it, you're legally obligated to report it.

Fun Fact: in 2009, I was ordered mandatory bed rest for an entire week because I had Swine Flu. The guy who ordered this was a full bird Colonel, outranked every last person in 1-13th Cav.
Funner Fact: I had to report for every first formation of that week, and go see the medics at Sick Call to confirm that I was still sick with the diagnosis that actual doctors with decades of medical experience diagnosed me with. The first few days there was zero chance I'd pass a field sobriety test, but was still ordered to drive in.
Yeah, I could have pushed the issue about what orders superceded other orders, but PFCs don't do well when they go outside the chain of command to raise issues.

"Death before dismount" is a military phrase that emphasizes the commitment of soldiers to stay with their armored vehicle or equipment under all circumstances, even if facing the threat of death. It underscores the importance of the mission and the dedication of soldiers to their duty, suggesting that they are prepared to endure extreme risks rather than abandoning their post or equipment.
In practical terms, it often reflects the understanding that dismounting from a protected vehicle in certain situations may expose soldiers to increased danger, and they are willing to face those risks rather than leaving their equipment or jeopardizing the mission. The phrase is associated with a strong sense of duty, loyalty, and the determination to fulfill military responsibilities.

Went to medical, they immediately put me in morpheme and took out a burst appendix within an hr. They didn’t even want to wait for any arthroscopic, but just cut me open to save time. My commanding officer was denying my required convalescence leave because “he intentionally gave himself his appendicitides by participating in triathlons to get out of work.” They literally were expecting me to show up the next day. He likely carries a riding crop, has Guderian books on a shelf in his office, lots of model tanks in his office, hides premature balding with a well shaved head (sorry AC, just a coincidence), and often wears shiny, black leather gloves in the field even on hot days, along with those really, really high strapped Danner cav boots and perhaps even smokes a weird looking, thin black cigar or cigarette and maybe even a uses a cigarette holder at times. He also has a military history vignette to support all his policies and edicts and uses the occasional german military term in idle conversation, and will rise to the top up to the rank of major at which time his career will crash and burn in flames when the colonels and generals realize he is a huge liability to their career and units' readiness.

LOL we had this guy as well. He wore a cav hat in uniform every Friday and the CSM and 1SGs yelled at him for it. They gave up on him. The soldiers loved him because he was truly sincere in his derangement and wasnt mean spirited and actually liked soldiers. But he made BZ to major and yup, retired as a MAJ at 20.

This is why a college degree should never have to be the main thing behind becoming an officer. Some of these officers come from colleges where they are taught to be soft, weak people.

    • @davidmarsh7933
      @davidmarsh7933 Před 6 měsíci +6

I can't agree with that to a certain extent. Officers should go through college because it gives them a deeper educational background as well as furthering their problem solving skills. However, they should go through military colleges. They are much less involved in politics than civilian colleges and actually produce officers that are fully bought in on the military and don't enter the force as a political officer.

I remember I had a 1LT cry to the commander (USAF) because I said the words "What are you talking about?" on the phone as I was preparing the entire base for a MAJCOM audit and didn't know what little stupid acronym she made up meant and what she was on about. It was deemed disrespectful...so I had to have paperwork written up, and when I told my boss as he gave me the paperwork, that she told me she didn't know how it got to this point, he sat me down and told me she demanded to the 1SGT I get paperwork.
As we sat down for my reprimand, he was reading the document, and got to the point of this is unbecoming of...he stopped, said I thought i removed this, went back o his desk and removed it. It basically said I should not have talked to the LT in this manner, and didn't say anything about the behavior or any repeated offenses or any of the typical crap. He told me later on as he put in for retirement, that they threatened him if he didn't comply. He retired not that long after.

one of the problems with banning early morning doctors appointments is that now your doctors cant get any work done before 10 am. so what do the do? are they just going to start working 6 hour days and hope they can still keep up with demand? or are they going to work from 10am to 7pm?
now it doesn't matter for civilian doctors as they can see civilian customers in the morning who are non military. but what about military doctors on base? they cant.
