Ashwin: “if I ever play test cricket I wanna be involved in a series like the 2005 ashes” And wasn’t the 2020-2021 border Gavaskar trophy just as good!!
Nope. That ashes was supremely played by once in a generation supremely talented cricketers. Probably best Aussie and english team of all times. I think gradually quality of Aussie cricket has declined over the year's. Probably you may think India won but those were against the pussies. In fact all other teams are on decline which makes India look better but it's not..it just that the quality of individual cricketer and cricket had gone down considerably after 2007 or so. By far best Indian team you had is post 2000 till 2007 probably but they couldn't win all because equally good team's were there in Pakistan, srilankans, england, South Africans and not to forget golden generations of Aussie cricketers.
I remember Ricky pointing in his last Odi at world cup 2011 scored a hundred against India at Ahemdabad will be my favorite memory of Ricky and Ash moment : )
I love Ashwin's CZcams channel, by far the most intelligent and knowledgeable player in the Indian cricket team. These interview series are fascinating just for the quality and caliber of the guests invited to the show. Ashwin has a great career ahead as a TV cricket commentator or analyst if he wants it :)
He is such a well spoken guy. I always admired Ricky. I know everyone in india sachin was a god but for me ricky ll always be my favorite batsman. Not just because of his ability but how well he understands the game and how much of a student of the game he is. Encyclopedia of cricket.
Great Ricky Ponting. When I used to take interest in Cricket, there was no player I hated more than Punter. Proper hatred. However over the years, I've come to admire his cricketing brain. And respect his batting. What a brilliant batsman he was. Thank you, Ricky, for making my childhood so memorable 👍👍👍
Seems like Ashwin is an intelligent guy. Most of the cricketers wasting time in the social media but this guy always trying to do something different which is knowledgeable. Love from SL
In my childhood, I saw him as an villian when india played against Australia. But now, knowing about him through this interview, i feel like he is one extraordinary person
Eye opener video...I had felt that Ricky ponting always had a charmed life thanks to bursting on the stage as a young talent with arguably the greatest ever team at his disposal. For someone to come through the underprivileged ranks of society living on housing board doles by government and yet making to the pinnacle of sporting greatness...it's truly wonderful👍
What a explosive video podcast. Ricky been the most influential batsman of all time. His will to win, grind at any cost is remarkable. Add the leadership role which he carried makes him the most exceptional captain of all time.
I spent time in Aus as a software engineer, and I reasonably know Aus. Including the fact that Gilchrist represented "the regular Aussie" way more than the next few popular ones combined. But fuck it, I will say it. I had judged Ponting from my perch exactly as he had judged India from his perch - even though with time he has slowly been mellowing out. This interview - while not really conducted perfectly - has still pretty good. I love how it let Ponting speak. I realized that Ponting is not to be disliked outta the cricket field - dude was just trying to survive, and his survival instincts became good enough to be recognized at the top. Respect. Namaste. Everything has a reason and once you know that reason, the bugaboo becomes way less important. So Aussies: I love you c***s, even if I always hope my cricket team smashes the shit outta you. And seriously, my 100% respect for how you guys and your media has graciously treated India. Our media is now better than 5 or 10 years ago - but while we won the trophy - I really think you guys won the trophy of grace. Cheers folks.

Another remarkable interview in this series. It was nice to see Ricky smiling. The clarity of thinking is astounding, a great trait of a Leader. The debate around the 2007 series was so mature and Ricky amazing, even the tinge of regret and helplessness, recognized, and then laughed at. While watching the interview, one could not but think about Ricky's was his body language. Virat Kohli is probably one of the few that has imbibed that to perfection. I read somewhere that Steve Waugh and Ricky Ponting was their ability to compartmentalize. That is an aspect you may want to raise with other leaders in the program. It can be a good learning for us. I thought Buchanan's stint as a successful coach during Ricky's period deserved discussion. I thought their paths crossed.
