  • After building more than 700 engines in his career, Joshua Gomez of MotorVation Performance, wanted to build himself an engine that was affordable, fast and stayed together. He hot rodded this 454 cid Gen V big block Chevy to the tune of 1,800 horsepower. Find out what went into the build in this episode of Engine of the Week brought to you by PennGrade1, Scat Crankshafts & Elring Das Original.

I am a big fan. I’ve been building engines for about 11 years and this is my next project a 454 with a turbo. You are a big inspiration I hope I can build engine until I’m 90 years old.

I've had nitrous fed SBC, and stroker NA LS, stroker turbocharged LS, supercharged LS, and SBE upgraded top end LS motors, and Duramaxs. But next I want to build some cars to run a BBC in NA and boosted. Awesome looking build.

Never seen a gen 5, aluminum rods, or a 10 bolt last for very long...especially at anything near 1800hp

Think i would had at least went with a aftermarket block to put good parts like that in and maybe a 9 inch rear end theres some places you can save money and some you cant but pretty cool build .

If hes done 700 engines Im sure he knows what will work.
At least he did buy high quality pushrods and lifters...true budget hot rod motor although Im sure it still wasnt 'cheap
That toilet, er turbo is frigging gigantor!

11.3:1 AFR on E85? I'll bet he builds a lot of engines. They probably don't last long.

@@MyName-ln6mkI’m not even in the states so idk but I raised an eyebrow when I heard that too…shouldn’t it be more like 9/10:1?

Wondering why Only 454 Cubes ? Cubic Inches is just More Horsepower and Torque. Doesn't seem like it's built for a specific class. I used to work with a Old School Drag Racer, and he Always said "The Bigger it is, the Faster it'll Go" Bigger Cubes is just a Rotating Assembly Away. And if you wanna go really Big, Aftermarket Blocks are a dime a dozen nowadays.

💰💰that’s why. You can pick up a gen 5 block from a junk yard less than 500 bucks. Those gen 5’s aren’t built like the aftermarket blocks, that block won’t handle much bore size.

i was expecting many 1000 til they said the turbo size, then 1800 tho... jesus christ. 1800 horse power street car. My dad tug boat he worked on was 125 foot and pushed a 300 foot barge. That boat had 4000 horse power.
