    Great warm up. I like the idea of blowing the air first and your our lip buzz is amazing.

    In my opinion it may be less useful to do long-lasting mouthpiece exercises... No one has to play only on a mouthpiece on concerts... The only benefit is a distinct offensive body work while practising.

    "trust" fall?

    • @betsybright
      @betsybright  Před rokem

      Hi! That's how I like to think about starting attacks. Did you ever go to a summer camp as a kid where you had to do trust falls? I was always terrible at this and would instinctively try to catch myself. And I was always amazed by how some people could really just let go and fall, trusting that the other person would catch them. This is a similar idea to the way we need to make starting attacks when playing. If we can let the full weight of our air "trust fall" into the leadpipe, we get a nice presence of sound. But when we try to "catch ourselves" and have this moment of tension and pulling back as we attack, we end up with a lot of problems. Something about this metaphor has really helped me learn to let go in attacks. It seems like Julie Landsman refers to this as "jumping off a cliff" and knowing there's a net there to catch you.
