To all the band members past, present and future: You are amazing! I didn’t have band growing up, and I saw how awesome my kids turned out by going through band, I am so excited to image the discipline and work that you all put into the sport, and I can’t wait to see what’s happening next year. I do this for you as well. 📸
To all the parents: I hope that my pics can help capture a moment of your kids as mine were captured, it helped my wife when she needed it, and friends and family members don’t get to see these sights normally. I do this for you. 😊

I marched here in 2019, while small it was so much fun. I love Fort Mill.

How wide (mm zoom) did you film this?
Did you use an external recorder with mic or was this on camera mic?
I ask because I’m doing this for my daughter’s band tomorrow at State Competition in San Antonio, TX.
Once again, this sounds and looks amazing. I hope to be able to do the same for my daughter’s band.

Thanks for the kind words!
I work with every band director that hosts the competition and get permission ahead of the show, because they don't need any more surprises.
I used a 10-18 mm Sony lens, on a Sony a7III.
The mics are matched pair of external mics in a sound reduction surround and a home made deadcat, but the mics are up with the camera in the press box, or above. They are connected to the cameras mic input.
Once recorded, I process in DaVinci Resolve to get it to the way I want it to look, and set the soundscape for the location.
Each video is recorded in 4K30 60m and are uploaded to CZcams with the same file settings, then it takes a few hours (per file) for their servers to process it for the different resolutions.

@@philhadleyphotos awesome. Thanks good info. I plan on using my Canon 5D Mark IV with a 24-70 L series lens also at 4K 30. My recorder will be the zoom H6 with the SSH stereo shotgun mic with Dead Cat using a back up recording recorded at -20 db. I’ll also have a DJI wireless mic directly into the camera. I plan on using Premiere Pro for post and synching.
We will see how that works.
@cavazosa4 Best of luck, it's a labor of love. I had the get the 10mm to get endzone to end zone, some bands lap over into that area, and help show the staging before field entry for the pit crew. May help them to study efficiency and on and off traffic.
@@philhadleyphotos I’ve been doing photos for the band for the last two years. This year I’m getting video.
The band booster parent reached out to me and said the band director asked if I would record the show as an opportunity for Educational Filming.
I said of course I would. I’m really excited and nervous too. I’m happy to do it for them, just like you.
I have another question, obviously you use some kind of tripod, or other stabilizer.
What do you use?
