Hello!, I think this is my favorite Kazakh song by Dimash. I like the sound of the Dombra and also the mysterious sound of the Kobiz that accompanies DQ in other songs. Thank you Sir and many greetings once again 👏👋🎵

The song speaks of the composition of Magzhan Zhumabayev, who is considered an exponent of Kazakh literature. When in 1928 he was sent to prison, and later sent to camps in North Karelia, Russia, Zuleikha (wife of Magzan) followed him, no matter where he was taken, she always found him and came to see him everywhere. She went to great lengths to get him released from prison in 1936, even asking the famous writer Maxim Gorky for help. During his prison term, Zhumabayev received the lying news that his wife had abandoned him, in this sense Daididau was written as a lament for the lost love and suffering of the nation. But contrary to what he thought, outside his wife worked hard for his freedom and in 1934 his sentence was reduced and he was finally able to return to the family. Unfortunately, in 1938 he was forcibly taken to the concentration camp and executed.

This remains one of my very favourite performances from Dimash, even though it dates from 2017! Did you notice that his in-ears failed right near the start of the song - although you’d never have guessed from his singing! He was emotional at the end - he loves hearing his native Kazakh sung back to him by his Dears!

Adai was the long line of dombro players and DIMASH appearing behind them on stage to play with them. Then it starts with Daididau and the musicians behind DIMASH were from his music school and were his friends, they were playing traditional instruments that give the song its special sound and feeling, along with DIMASH's voice. Another stellar reaction Paul.

They say every Kazakh home has a dombra, and every child learns to play the Adai! Dimash and his little brother Mansur play it frequently at concerts..that is, before Mansur switched to the guitar! Can you hear the sound of horses hooves echoing across the steppe? ❤

Thank you for your reaction. Dimash shared that he made the arrangement of this song when he was 15 years old with the help of his father's best friend. In concert, it means so much to him when his fans sing with him.

Yes, most stage performances are grandiose, but have you watched and listened to Qyaragym-ai? He sings in an empty theatre on a stage with just a pianist. Behind him on a screen is a picture of his beloved college professor who died from covid. Dimash and the pianist were ex students who wanted to pay their respects. No vocal acrobatics or extreme high notes - just a heartfelt painful rendition of a song composed by the professor, Kenes, It is very special.

👉 ADAI is popular in Kazakhstan and is composed by one of the greatest dombra players, the Kazakh folk musician and composer Kurmangazy Sagyrbayuly (1823-1896).
👉 DAIDIDAU is a poem written in prison by Maghzhan Zhumabayev.
Thanks to the great performance of Dimash Kudaibergen in 2017 (The Singer). Daididau is now the most famous Kazakh song in the world. (Dimash's stage costume is based on the traditional Kazakh coat, called Shapan.)
The true story: The poet Maghzhan Zhumabayev was in prison in Stalingrad (now Petersburg/Russia) and had just been informed that his wife had left him. This song was his answer. He named his wife Daididau (it could be derived from 'дедім айдай ау' - the moon-like one.) It was false information, a way to torture him and others arrested for conspiracy. Also through Gorky's (a famous Russian writer) intercession, Zhumabayev was released. He saw his wife again, but only for a short time. He was executed by the Stalin regime in 1938.
The widow secretly collected all his poems. (They were banned until 1989).
This song was first used in the Kazakh-Soviet film 'Shanyrak' directed by Edige Bolysbayev and thus became known and very important for the Kazakh people.

I am so glad you did this one. If you notice when the song starts he is pointing to his ear piece. It is not working. He tries it several times and it never does work so he just sings the song perfectly which from what I understand is difficult because he may not have been able to hear himself. When he did this song in New York it was the highlight of my evening. I am going to find the fan cam of it and submit it for reaction. It is so and personal that you can see the tears in his eyes when the crowd is singing it back to him.

Everytime I see this I tear up. He sings this with such heart. He loves his people and respects greatly his culture and history. Although a Muslim...he is Kazakh. They are not the fundamentalist mindset. The Kazakh culture is more influencial in how they live their lives. More European and tolerant of others ways.
I respect that he gives thanks and humbles himself before a higher power. What a Prince he is in that gold lame dressage.
Thank you for your reaction and kind prayer as always.
