- Beech is a late bloomer. And they have some dificulty in ramnification. So you need to use tactics like pruning and partial defoliation to increase the fine branching. What to do with beech in the growing season? how to manage beech bonsai foliage?

Great video mate that tree is looking great 👍 👍👍
Thank you so much!
Good video on Beech bonsai. Yep, it’ll take a number of years to get there. But, oh the enjoyment seeing your efforts turn it into an amazing design “you” pictured and worked toward. Keep ‘‘em coming my friend. Enjoyed this one more as we have two mid-way beeches that were not tended to as by prior owner, but we think has great potential. Always learning…..
Beach are SUCH Great trees to work for bonsai. WIth their own little challenges, but overall, I really like them!
Ich hab vor Wochen danach gefragt. Jetzt wo ich fertig bin kommt so ein Video 🙈🤣
Tut mir leid!
Thanks Jelle for bringing that trees into flashlight. As beeches are not my favorites, I haven’t payed much attention on those. My white-beech developed really vigorous branches this year, I already pruned and the pushed back again very strong. So now I’m thinking about pruning again, and if I get you right, this would be good practice? Cheers 🙋♀️
Particularly the top branches you need to watch because they like to fatten up!
Great video and I didnt know that early prune technique - exactly when do you know it is time? These are always last for me, behind the oaks. I still haven't got to them!! Cheers
I find it tricky to time. Somewhere between just out of the bud, and fully extended. I have been too early and got very big leaves (But fairly good internodes). It is one I am still playing with a bit.
@@GrowingBonsai I shall start playing next year too thanks to that little bit of information 😁
👍👌👌🙂
:D
Hi Jelle, I love your videos and have really learnt a lot. I have a beech Bonsai and All my branches are doing well apart from one that is budding but then the leaves dry out and die. I have checked for bugs and cannot find any and I am confused, I wish I could upload a photo but cant seen to be able..
No other damage, like a break or pruning scars? It does happen sometimes. Not all branches survive.
Hi Jelle, thank for the beech video. I‘m tackling with the same tree for more than 15 years. My brunches are partially quite thick and I would like to get thinner/new branches. I hardly dare to cut them due the beech is not producing new branches like a maple. Do you have a good hint how to create new branches? Thanks, regards
Hi Andreas.. I have bit the bullet in the past and cut off many of the main branches in winter, and found that a healthy beech will produce buds then. It is nailbiting time though, as beeches are already late budding out, backbuds take another 4 weeks to pop.. So it was not till late may that the tree regrew. Not sure I would recommend it on a good tree, and would say, first trial it on a less important tree.
I have some copper beech trees which seem to be less vigorous than the green variety, do you know if i could still expect two or three flushes? Too late for this year but good to know for next season.
Many thanks
THAT Is a really good question. I *think* you might, based on what I see on ground-grown trees. But I am only growing 2 out in the ground, and have no expiernce with the copper variety in a pot!
I why did you make it a triangle? is not a pine😂
Where do you see a triangle?
