    There's actually a few other really good ways to get aluminium and rubber. Namely, scrapping weapons and armor. Pipe weapons tend to contain a fair bit of aluminium and rubber even early on, but in higher level areas you can expect most weapons to contain a fair bit of both. You can even get crystal and circuitry by scrapping energy weapons. They aren't the best source, but they're abundant and you can break them down using the numerous workbenches scattered around, if you have the Settlement Defense CC pack then you can even just set up a lure and let the resources come to you.

I just build a personal residence and load the places up with water pumps. I also put storage containers next to the fast travel point to collect water and store them.
    The other thing I usually do is put Trader Rylee alone in a location like Hangman's Alley, and just build her a residence, shop, and a healthy amount of defense. Rylee is the best resource trader in the game by far (with the Vault-Tec rep being a distant second), selling more junk than any other merchant and offering triple the shipments of the usual resources that the Vault-Tec rep and other normal traders provide. Clean out her stock of junk and shipments, wait or sleep 2 days, then repeat...preferably after harvesting a few thousand purified water from the water farms.

    Oh, also! A bonus tip for if you're planning to convert various "useful" items into junk items at vendors: Visit Sunshine Tidings Co-op as early as you can! If you turn directly due south upon exiting Vault 111 and just move straight ahead for just a few minutes, boom! You've found STC! In one of the cabins next to the grain silos, there's an issue of Wasteland Survival Guide sitting on the floor next to a steamer trunk. Picking this up as early as possible is *invaluable* when it comes to keeping you rolling in either healing items, or stuff to convert into whatever you need to purchase.
    How so? Well, it bestows a perk upon the player, that makes it so any creature killed in their presence that has the chance to drop a piece of meat, now has one piece of meat added to their inventory. This is regardless of whether or not they're already guaranteed to drop one piece of meat. So, most animals will drop TWO pieces of meat, and every bug will drop at least one! Seriously, it's so good, you get so much meat! I've had characters who snatched the magazine right after leaving the Vault, and was able to hoard an ever-increasing amount of stimpacks simply because they (almost) never needed to use them until they started hitting levels in the forties or fifties.

    Vault 114 - if you pay attention while going to rescue Nick, you'll find it has tons of bags of cement absolutely everywhere. check along the walls, in corners. it's far harder carrying them all back than it is to find them. TBF though concrete shipments is way cheaper than it should be considering how little of it is actually used. There's also a decent amount of gas cans lying around 114 as well. the one gas can respawns frequently outside of the molerat cave next to red rocket as well. otherwise? There are steamer trunks everywhere you can raid reliably for things to scrap. One in the water on a boat in the lake next to sanctuary, one in a grave next to the water tower between redrocket and abernathy's, and then the one with the DC guards and super mutant encounter. of course you also have all the various safes around concord as well. unfortunately the concord sewers never respawns, so that's one less thing to loot in the easiest loop ever. That's really heavily reliant on the scrapper perk though.
    Alternatively, you can just cheat using the scrap 'n store glitch. It's a thing that people that spend a lot of time focusing on settlement builds exploit all the time. you have to be careful though as sometimes... junk components will just fall through the ground... because of course it did. It's a tedious pain in the rear to get the timing right, but it will sadly always be the best way of getting material. It's not legit, but hey, it's free, and you don't need to leave the settlement. Wonder if this is a thing that can be done to dup shipments. . .

    If playing on hardcore mode it is most effecient to dedicate a single settlement to one of the crops necessary for vegetable starch.
    Say you use Sanctuary Hills for mutfruit, Tenpines Bluff for tatoes and Abernathy Farm for corn. You can empty the workshops from any settlement that is linked by provisioners so they can restock their food supply everyday since the amount of food that a workshop settlement can hold is very modest. They will not restock their food or water for that matter if they have an excess of either resource which is really easy to hit. So say you have 50 pieces of radroach meat and 20 units of dirty water stored at Sanctuary Hills. The workshop will no longer produce purified water or mutfruit since the limit has already been met. This makes it so it is better to have a resource dump settlement like Red Rocket where you can keep like a player home only and maybe just have turrets and a few bots (that wont steal your favorite weapons from your workshop) as guards for your stuff. The same is also true for scavenger stations if you have 100 junk items plus 5×settler in the workshop they will no longer produce junk. The 100 junk item limit is per unit. So if you have 200 pieces of wood in your workshop (at that particular settlement) the scavengers will no longer produce junk. Note that this only takes into account items that are actually in the workshop and not stored elsewhere in the settlement like a fridge or steamer trunk.

    • @edmartin875
      @edmartin875 Před 2 měsíci +1

      I didn't know that about the junk item limits. In Sanctuary in the carport near the Workshop I have 18 red toolboxes with specific stuff stored in each. It looks like I need to build another to store random junk that is not stored elsewhere.
      In Sanctuary I grow 6 of each produce type for a total of 24 food. Only Purified water from my 2 water purifiers in the river and 2 water pumps are stored in the Workshop, after the settlers have taken what they need. No Farm produce is stored in the Workshop. That is the only Settlement that makes that distinction. It's been like that for years and multiple character builds.

    • @jon6car
      @jon6car Před 2 měsíci

      @@edmartin875 If you have any food in the workshop that goes over the settlement cap (which is really low) like cram, instamash etc then that particular settlement will not produce its crops in the workshop since it has enough food for the settlers already. Best to empty any settlements of all aid items that you want to produce their crops so they can continue to deposit them in the workshop. Settlers eat tatoes before anything else so that is another thing to keep in mind. If building a starch farm at one settlement then it is necessary to over produce tatoes to keep them balanced. This is why I suggest dedicating a particular settlement to a particular crop. If there are three settlements each producing just one crop you can empty their workshop from any other connected workshop by crafting vegetable starch.

    6:55 It's actually pretty easy to remove (at least some) oil from oil based paints- just let them sit for a while and the oil separates, floating in a layer at the top.
    It's a pain in the ass having to mix it back together before painting, but if you're trying to salvage oil, then... yeah, it'd be great. And having been laying around for 200 years, safe to say these paint cans would be VERY well settled.

    The best way , in my humble opinion for collecting building materials, like some companions are saying most of the time when you are scavenging is : scraping weapons and armors . I guess is the most easy way to get what you need . The hardest material to get is ballistic fiber , I think . Word ! And , the way to get more of the stuff you need is almost based on the difficulty level that you are actually playing . Why ? Simple ! If you are playing on very hard setting you mostly encounter more skilled and more powerful enemies and ... legendary characters ! The harder to deal with those , the more goodies you get after you eliminate the enemies . This , is an opinion . And, by the way , I think the very important thing is how do you want to deal with your enemies : bullets , explosives, laser or melee ... and ,... , it will be amazing if you get hands on explosives guns , such are : spray and pray , explosive minigun ( I think is the best weapon in the game ) , all the explosive variants of the guns that are using bullets ; and so on for other weapons for melee and so on . This means that you don't have to carry so many weapons with different kind of ammo . In my humble experience weapon using bullets are better than energy weapons especially if are legendary or/and explosive .Check the damage for each one of them. My point is , 4 example : using bullets based guns , a good melee weapon ( duelist disciple cutlass my favorite for melee ) , a big gun with good splash damage such is penetrating missile launcher , a minigun for the dps , frag grenades is all that I need.This allows me to scrap all energy weapons and sell all the energy ammo that I get from my enemies . Some of the rarest materials you get from weapons with scopes , most of them energy weapons . You can get , from scraping armors , a lot of lead , rubber and fiberglass etc..

    Adhesive- grow corn, mutfruit and tatos. Mix those with purified water at a cooking station, which creates vegetable starch, used for multiple Adhesive.
    Oil- collect skeleton parts. Use bone and I believe solvent to create cutting fluid at a cooking station (maybe chemistry table?) These create multiple oils.
    Fertilizer is also good if you build an ammo factory or explosives.

I'll load up a box or dead body with junk/weapons/armor and keep spamming the companion pick up. Also, if you know any respawning locations that have a lot of aluminum cans, farming those is a good idea. Only a tenth of a pound per can, and they scrap for two aluminum!
    The Corvega Assembly Plant is also a...decent aluminum source, due to having lots of respawning coolant caps and hubcaps. Wow, missed two great options. The Mechanist is one of the best merchants in the game for shipments, if not the best. And the eyebot schematic is also a great tool to find rare items (the actual amount in the container might nope be staggering, but you’ll likely get more throughout the dungeon). The scrapper perk is the best way to get loads of stuff. One assault rifle (with maxed scrapper perk) can yield nearly half of any shipment that it breaks down into. So collecting five assault rifles at Dunwich Borers can be equal to four or five shipments (steel, aluminum, screws, wood, nuclear material). As for bone, USAF satellite array near Tenpines is an excellent place. And both the Fortune Finder and Scrounger perks both seem to add to amount of junk items available in containers as it increases the chances of containers having items. A complete clearing of Gunners Plaza can yield a thousand caps and ammo, and nearly enough scrap for several items in a settlement.

Once the crashing starts I just have to clear out only that place by scrapping all exces armour and weapons.

    - ... your save file getting BLOATED from all the weapons that fail to de-spawn, just like in Skyrim.
    Also, duct tapes and wonder glues, ALWAYS get them from tool boxes, you NEED them if you're playing in a non cheating way.

      If you pick up all the weapons and scrap them (which is done at a station...) how are they failing to despawn?

    Effiecny comes while in building mode and abusing "R" & Tab and scrapping and storing resources at the same time which doubles what's in your inventory this can be done with shops and get unlimited caps

    Just collect everything in the waste and heavily in scrapper and strong back so you’ll be able to fast travel when you’re overweight

      Fast travel is nice but not necessary to my play style.

    If you have the unofficial patch installed you won't be able to farm the laser turrets at Jamaica Plain more than once. For some reason it prevents the lasers from turning back on.

      Probably for that exact reason as laser tripwires are an excellent source of rarer components that normally take awhile to acquire a reasonable amount.

      After I've removed all the loot from the Treasure Room I've never gone back there to see if the trip beams or turrets turn back on/respawn. I'll have to revisit the Jamaka Plain Treasure Room to see what I can see.

    I'm actually a bity surprised nobody uses settlements they don't intent to build in as a easy source of materials since they're plentiful and easy to clear.
    I never build in Vault88 but it has so much steel, concrete, and nuclear material that it's one of the first locations i hit up when starting a new game.
    I'll knock off the Barstow then use the scrapall console command to quickly clean everything up, then run back to my main base with all the goodies.
