Wow I just bought at 72 Mark IV. Needs work for sure. Alot of little things needs addressing but nonetheless wondering how much it would cost as this place is almost an hour away.
wow...have seen a lot of Marks over the years (I'm old) but never one this color...usually they are dark colors or maybe white...this is spectacular. dude looks like the kind of guy to be driving a Mark
The Lincoln Continental Mark IV 1972, was a real gem, during its heydays, back in the early 70s and it was a real competitor, to the Cadillac Eldorado of that same time period. With all the complete options you could’ve easily purchased this car for only $9000, which was a lot of money back in 1972. What i like about this particular model is the fact, that it really features some of does ThunderBird lines to it. Hence, the Lincoln Continental 1972 offered a beautiful front grill that resembled somewhat to the Rolls Royce, like you said and the body was also assembled, on the same ThunderBird platform, from the Ford factory! Once again, Lou, you’ve really surpassed yourself, in this other terrific episode of your car story. Just keep at her and thanks again, Lou. It’s always a renewed pleasure. Johnny, Montréal, Canada!👍💖
Mr. Garcia really knows his stuff and he sure seems like a classy guy. I live in suburban Chicago and would drive to his shop today for a chat---but I wouldn't want to waste his time because I'm not in the market! But wow, what a cool car. And once again...thanks, Lou!
Really wish I could get my Uncle's 72 back on the road and restored after seeing this! Such beautiful cars. Its neat to see these and then all the mark series cars and then to see the subtle design features that made their way into Mark VIIs like mine. Can't beat the long hood! wow

Production of the 1972 Lincoln Continental Mark IV was 48,591 which was a huge increase over the Mark III. The 1972 Thunderbird was almost exactly the same car but came with a 429 V-8 standard (400 V-8 in early production), the 460 V-8 as an option, and minus the unique Lincoln grill and rear hump. The Mark IV, Thunderbird, and standard Continental were all built together at Wixom Assembly. Sadly the real wood interior trim of the Mark III was replaced with plastic wood tone... overall build quality was still very good but not as high as the Mark III. The 1972 model came in a staggering 23 paint colors, 5 vinyl roof colors, and either cloth or leather upholstery in several colors. Just for comparison, a 2020 Tesla Model S offers only 5 exterior paint choices and a couple interior trim choices. The front bumper guard was optional at $19.19 and the opera windows were a $81.84 option. The front grill of the 1972 model is not interchangeable with the 1973 to 1976 models. For 1973 the Mark IV offered its first luxury group in Silver, and the 4 Designer Series Models were introduced in 1976.

Continental Mk IV : the perfect accessory for my Cartier Tank Française watch. I like the way the car rocks on its springs when the owner blips the throttle. I can almost hear the Dollar coins falling out of the dual tailpipes...
I have a 1976 Mark IV with the dual exhaust, 50,000 original miles, red exterior and white vinyl top. I am thinking about putting a 72' grill on the front, and a 72/73' rear bumper on because the 5mph bumper really ruins it in my opinion! Great video, thank you so much for this.
You were mistaken about the Opera Window: There was an Opera Window DELETE Option. In it's place was the Lincoln Star on, I think, the inside and outside. (I have the 1972 Sale Brochure). The opera window was standard. I have never seen a 1972 w/o one.

Lovely car but I must admit I'm partial to the Continental Mark III. To me every line and piece of chrome on a Mark III was so thoughtfully placed and had a purpose.
Hi William Simonian, Humberto does not (or I have not seen it if he does) however here's a Mark II for you. Enjoy! Lou czcams.com/video/JS-7rZ0993o/video.html
Had a few of those Marks. The clocks are very easy to fix once you het them out of the dash. They operate by having a set of points similar to ignition points wind the clock (if you have ever slept in a car with a working clock you would remember hearing a click sound every few minutes) anyway the points wind the clock and slowly close back until they make contact this pushes them back apart and the clock is “wound” for a few more minutes. To repair one all you need to do is unstick the points and give them a light sanding with a fine sandpaper. I always enjoyed the fact that everything in my car functioned properly.

Interesting its not a documented color for 72. And also the AM/ FM 8 track was not a 72 option. In 1972 you had your choice of an AM 8 track or an AM/FM radio only.

I had one of my Mark Vs out this weekend and I really don't get compliments, just silly cliched comments. " that hood is as long as my car!!!" Being I felt a bit cocky and a little tired of the silly comments I answered.., your car is five feet long? People, don't forget this was the era of the majestic Caddys, buicks, Oldsmobile. Telling me my hood is big is not a compliment.
As long as you like it man, thats all that matters. I loved my '64 Impala SS till I lost it last month to a wreck, however, I got nothing but compliments and thumbs up as well lol...

This car's engine was a lot quieter than it sounds on the video. Sounds like it has an exhaust leak in the system or a warped manifold should not sound like this at all! I am surprised that this guy who has a shop that specializes in classic cars and is a fan of the Continental brand would allow such a beautiful classic car like the Mark IV to sound like a Tractor! That is shameful!
the women of the 70s that drove these,....u could call it be4 they got outta the car, would be wearing pink lipstick and black mascara, white nail polish around a fistful of diamond rings...maybe like the girls in the casino movie........
really?..... are u sure?...their now somewhere between 75 and 80 years old ....but they have to be better off than their replacements will fair...that beautiful swan on a branch tramp/stamp tatt,... will look like a buzzard takin a crap over a fence by then......whew...... dont even wanna think about it!!...but i know what u mean...and thanks 4 the lol.......
GORGEOUS CAR, HOWEVER THAT EXHAUST SOUND SUCKS. THAT 460 SHOULD SOUND LIKE A LOW POWERFULL TONE NOT CLANKY LIKE THAT SOUNDS. YOU NEED TO SHOP AROUND FOR A BETTER SET OF EXHAUST SYSTEM OTHER THAN THAT ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS CAR I'D BE EXTREAMLY PROUD TO HAVE THAT SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY
Lou makes me kind of embarrassed to be an old car guy - there's so much about every vehicle he does that he just doesn't know or misses entirely - nuances of equipment, availability, styling, design, etc., etc. Then he forgets what the owner has already told him. I do appreciate getting a look at these vehicles but wow. Makes me yearn for another Dennis Gage video - also sometimes lacking knowledge but he's somehow managed to finagle himself into some pretty impressive collections (damn why don't I have that gig?), and we at least get to see the cars move - at 20 mph.
Joe makes me kind of embarrassed to be an young car guy - because he never start his own CZcams Channel and make $$$ with all the car knowledge he has & he never figured out Lou doesn't have to know a thing about cars because the Care Takers of the car have way more knowledge then Joe or I will ever have, so all Lou has to do is ask questions to find out the answers :-) Stay well Joe and have fun with me on the Channel, Lou

You were mistaken about the Opera Window: There was an Opera Window DELETE Option. In it's place was the Lincoln Star on, I think, the inside and outside. (I have the 1972 Sale Brochure). The opera window was standard. I have never seen a 1972 w/o one.

You would need some theme music riding in that beauty
Hi Chris Jones, Nice :-) Lou
Beautiful Car !!!
Hi Larry, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Lou
This car makes me home sick for my 1973 Mark IV l miss that car 😣😣
Thank you for viewing and sharing your thoughts.
The 460 ci engine began to get strangled by emission standards by 1972, thus the drop in the horsepower.
Hi Dave, Thank you for sharing your knowledge, Lou
many similar interior features to my dad's 1969 ford thunderbird!!!
Hi postaltraining, You're Dad has a cool car too. Nice, Lou
haD- got eaten up by new england salt. but i loved it as a kid. it had the 429 4V and back of the door handle ash trays and the more i looked at this the clock and speedo were exact same location but round. dummy light cluster same location. cruise controls on steering wheel the same. not a great snow car for the winter but what a cruiser!!! i'm sure it didn't have a Cartier clock though lol. just a regular one
Just picked up contenantal Mark v
Hi Tony, Congratulations on your new car :-) Lou

Greetings from Australia Lou. Great videos you put together. I myself own a Tuxedo black 70' SS Chevelle. I had full frame off restoration performed in Pennsylvania then imported here. Best regards Michael.

I love it!!!!!!!!!
High praise :-)
The car sounds like its cammed, am I the only one that thinks/hears that?? Such a beauty.. 190hp..lol And TWICE THE TORQUE!! I'm into modding, I would make that car haul ass with that big block..
Hi TigreLoko24, Hmmm, didn't seem to be anything but factory to me. I'm sure if you had this big block, it would be a "Hot Rod Lincoln" :-) Lou
@@loucostabile hi, thanks for your quick reply.. I understand, maybe it was the way your camera captures sounds cuz it sounds mean..lol Does it sound quiet in person?? Anyway, I'd pay good money for that car, it's super clean..
I absolutely love these cars! There are not very many of these in this condition in Australia. Wonder what something like this would sell for??
Glad you love this one Nicholas Milano :-) No idea on the price for a car like this. Hope you have fun time on the Channel, and tell your car friends, Lou
Is this the original paintwork or has this vehicle been restored??
Lovely car but I must admit I'm partial to the Continental Mark III. To me every line and piece of chrome on a Mark III was so thoughtfully placed and had a purpose.
Hi Jake Real, Glad you thought this one is lovely :-) I like the Mark III too, Lou
Great car just out of curiosity does Humberto have a mark II you could video cause he seems to have a lot of these great cars thanks Lou keep it up
Hi William Simonian, Humberto does not (or I have not seen it if he does) however here's a Mark II for you. Enjoy! Lou czcams.com/video/JS-7rZ0993o/video.html
cartier clocks were available in the mark 3's too -rare that they are found in working condition though
Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
The car "Cannon" drove

hey lou what are all those wires under the dash , don t look neet. sounds like a exhaust leak.
hey Robert, I'm not sure...lets pull them all out and see if anything happens :-)
The color is beautiful but the idol sounds like it has an engine lope in it I,had a 72 and was pretty copper and white wish I never sold it. Anyway the engine, should idol smoothly I had 180,00056. Miles on it and still running smoothly and every thing still working even the tape player.
Hi Wayne, Happy to read you enjoy the color on this car :-) Interesting this car has a "lope" sound. Glad to read you had a cool 72 too. NICE! Lou
@@loucostabile thanks for your response,as of a matter of fact I've owned the Mark s 3 4 5 7 and 8 and now I'm driving the mkz, witch I, love now. But nothing can replace elegant beauty of the mk,3 and 4 ohh yeah love your videos Lou. I am thinking about another Mk. Four some day in a couple more years. Ohh yeah almost forgotten my wife, had a Lincoln navigator be for she passed away. Anyway Lou, have a blessed year. Shalom
Interesting its not a documented color for 72. And also the AM/ FM 8 track was not a 72 option. In 1972 you had your choice of an AM 8 track or an AM/FM radio only.

Niiice!
:-)
I had one of my Mark Vs out this weekend and I really don't get compliments, just silly cliched comments. " that hood is as long as my car!!!" Being I felt a bit cocky and a little tired of the silly comments I answered.., your car is five feet long? People, don't forget this was the era of the majestic Caddys, buicks, Oldsmobile. Telling me my hood is big is not a compliment.
As long as you like it man, thats all that matters. I loved my '64 Impala SS till I lost it last month to a wreck, however, I got nothing but compliments and thumbs up as well lol...

. Nothing more American than a 72 Lincoln mark 4
Nice :-)
Nice :)
Glad you liked this one :-)
:) :)
hi, it's really a nice car. I've got a 72 Mark iv too and I'd like to covert the original single exhaust to a dual exhaust. What kind of exhaust is on this car?
Thx.
Regards.
JJ
Hi JJ, Glad you enjoyed this one and nice to read you have one too. Seeing this car in a National Award Winner as I understand the dual exhaust is in the original and stock exhaust pipes configuration. Curious, does your car have single exhaust? Lou
Lou Costabile: hi Lou, yes stock is single exhaust with 2 muffler. Very (too) quiet ;-).
regards.
JJ
did they get that car from Dolemite, Octavius or Demetrius?
Not sure.
That car says to me either a pimp or a mobster is behind the wheel, bags of coke, guns, or body is in the trunk.
Hi Timothy, Thank you for viewing and sharing. Lou
what kind of camshaft does that have in it? doesnt sound stock
Think this one is stock.
did the 72's have an 8 track?
I think they could have.
Need help bringing it back to life loaded 460 mother all complete
Hi Tony, Need more clarification. Lou
My first brother
These were beautiful. Why are they building such crap today?
Hi VEGAN MGTOW, Glad you enjoyed this one and think it's "beautiful" :-) I think there are some nice cars today too, Lou
Such as? Nothing from Lincoln and maybe the Cad CT6
OX MONSTER The new Continental?
@@pat8437 FWD, fusion based, no V8 and a harsh ride
Oh and it's being discontinued anyway, such a shame since the interior was up to the Continental name
People aren't interested in cars anymore. They're interested in saving money.
Please as Roberto if he knows someone in Elpaso tx to work on my 1979 Lincoln Mark V...
Hi Bohemia Lite, We’re talking with Humberto Garcia, Owner of Meadowdale Performance Garage, Inc. He shares as a boy falling in love with the new car his Father brought home from the Dealership which became his dream car. The result is he became a lifelong “Fan of the Lincoln Continental”.
The company is located at 80 N. Kennedy Drive, Carpentersville, IL 60110 who repairs & restores cars.
If you’re interested in restoring your car, call Humberto at the office # 1-847-783-0525. Or go to www.meadowdalegarage.com, Hope that helps, Lou
The clock he showed on the car, had IIII as the number 4 in roman numerals. That's incorrect. IV is 4....oops Ford
:-0
This car's engine was a lot quieter than it sounds on the video. Sounds like it has an exhaust leak in the system or a warped manifold should not sound like this at all! I am surprised that this guy who has a shop that specializes in classic cars and is a fan of the Continental brand would allow such a beautiful classic car like the Mark IV to sound like a Tractor! That is shameful!
Thank you for viewing and sharing. Hope you see many cars on this CZcams Channel you enjoy.
am/fm 8 track option?
Hi Rumblepot, Not sure. Hopefully a Viewer can share knowledge. Lou
He shows the AM/FM 8-track tape option in the video. The 8-track is the quadraphonic 8-track option.
91 Octane minimum?
This one likes the nice gas :-)
Is it real wood?
Seems like it if it's not.
Yeas, it's genuine faux wood.
No, but the earlier Mark III used real wood trim.
the women of the 70s that drove these,....u could call it be4 they got outta the car, would be wearing pink lipstick and black mascara, white nail polish around a fistful of diamond rings...maybe like the girls in the casino movie........
I wish I was interviewing the girls you're describing with this car :-)
really?..... are u sure?...their now somewhere between 75 and 80 years old ....but they have to be better off than their replacements will fair...that beautiful swan on a branch tramp/stamp tatt,... will look like a buzzard takin a crap over a fence by then......whew...... dont even wanna think about it!!...but i know what u mean...and thanks 4 the lol.......
Hi Rosemarie, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car, and we'll have to look into that exhaust issue, Lou
I have one I'm selling been in.my garage for 20 years
Hope you find the right Buyer for your car.
nice, but the 68 - 71 was better looking
Hi Steve Osgood, Did you see this one? Enjoy, Lou czcams.com/video/q_S1RmOsUyw/video.html
I love the color
Nice :-)
