  • Sharp VC7700X VCR Instruction Tape Reilly Bishop Mr Video Prod 27 07 1980
Back in the 1970s, Australian video company Reilly Bishop Mr Video sold VCRs with an instruction tape. The tape appears to be produced in-house and shows the user how to operate the VCR. I was given the VC7700X by a friend in the 1990s, it failed a short time later, but I kept the tape. Reilly Bishop folded in the mid 1980s
Reilly Bishop Mr Video was also a video library with many VHS and Betamax movies on the shelves

Interesting seeing this VC7700X VCR instruction tape. I remember when first using a Philips Cassette Tape Recorder, there was a sample cassette tape provided with it. However, I am not sure if it included instructions or just ran sample music from memory. Interesting to see that the VCR uses channels 3 and 4. I have never heard of a tape end alarm before. That sounds handy. Love the turret tuner TV. I don't think I have ever had a queue button that works quite like the one in this video. It seems that this particular VCR may have had quite a few settings that may not have been included on many later VCRs. Audio dub was only included on certain VCRs and most VCRs did not have it at all.

My JVC HR7700 had audio dub. It could also “backspace edit” which I figured out how to do manually. The manual did not explain that, only that a timed recording would use it. Think the HR7700 also uses channel 4. The Akai VS10 used UHF but was the same machine as an HR7700. A few VCRs did have cueing, but it wasn’t universal so a tape from an Akai would not be compatible with the cueing system on a JVC etc

Do you still have the old JVC VCR? it certainly looked like an interesting model.

It failed shortly after it was given to me. I gave it to a 2nd hand shop in Lalor
