    Since the moment we're looking for is a dot product, shouldn't it be a scalar and not a vector? Mainly judging from the arrow above the "M" in the top left corner. I get the idea now though, thanks!

    Great video! It doesnt seem to me that it should matter whether you find the axis at the end as OB or BO, but it doesnt change the sign of your final answer to positive, why is that?

    • @ayaanz350
      @ayaanz350 Před 7 měsíci

      our O in this case is 0 so subtracting or adding it in this doesn't matter since O is at origin. I think it'd change the sign if O was on another point

    Your videos are amazing Dr. Hanson. Thank you for teaching me 3 months of statics in 7 days. In this video, I believe you made a minor mistake when calculating J in the matrix. You mistakenly took i for j but then corrected it later and forgot to correct the signs as i is negative and j is positive. So it's (0x10) - (6x-40) = +240 as j is positive. Just thought I'd clear that out for those who are watching this video. Thank you Dr. Hanson

    There comes a minor mistake. The formula you wrote in 0:52 should be Scalar M because a vector dots a vector should be a scale. Btw, thank you for your videos. They help me a lot.

    Professor Hanson, this is an awesome lecture on Moment About a Specified Axis, however the 240 should be a plus 240 instead of minus and this would change your answer to 262 newton meter.

    • @jexselzayasjr5626
      @jexselzayasjr5626 Před 2 lety +4

      No George he is right with the -240. When you cross vectors your j component has an extra negative. a x b = (discriminate )i - (discriminate)j + (discriminate)k. For his j component, he got [ (0*10) - (-40 * 6) ] = 0 - (-240) = +240. Then you multiply by the -j to get -240j.
