I feel smoking up unlocks a perspective of myself that the sober one tries to avoid/hide behind smiles and happiness. As you say, seeing oneself from someone else's eyes. But this someone's eyes are/is still my eyes, isn't it? A reflection of what the self thinks about itself from someone's perspective. When I allow myself to be in that awkwardness/unlikable/cringe/etc., it takes me to a place where these beliefs are emerging and once I observe this place, the uncomfortable feeling slowly starts to dissolve and disappear. The true self remains the same regardless of which perspective it views itself from.
Damn. I'm learning some new vocab here. Inebriated?!
I find it fascinating that you recite your beautiful poems straight from your memory.

I had my first spliff at a Canned Heat concert in 1971 and I smoked on and off for the next 52 years, only letting it go, for good in January last year. For me it brought me back to myself. No matter how unconscious I’d been it brought me right back to the present and who I truly was. It’s been quite a ride without it, flying solo and having to do it all on my own without the weed as my helper. So for me, it did the opposite and I was able to look at myself with compassion and love. I’m really intrigued by your experience and I’d love to be able to shine a light on it but frankly, I am stumped.
All I know is that you are one of the most authentic people that I follow on CZcams. It’s just you in all your forms, and that’s so very endearing and attractive. You also make me think lots, and that’s a good thing. So, I think on here you’re genuinely being you.
I’m interested to know if you were alone when you watched your video or was someone else watching? Was that a factor? I’ll just leave that there. ❤
