We discovered a lost bridge on the farm, but it's NOT WHAT WE THOUGHT!

- Happy Easter, everyone 🐰🐣🐥
At the same time as taking an official week off from filming DIY projects, I've fallen ill with a nasty cold and bout of laryngitis. But as promised, I'm back with a special unboxing I wanted to share with you.
Note: what's even worse is I had to film MOST of this video TWICE as we discovered it was blurry EXCEPT when I opened my CZcams gift at the end (THANKFULLY!)
Anyway, I thought I'd take the time to update you with:
- What I've been doing this week
- The extra hinged hoop housing I've been making
- Insect nets I've ordered
- What I've directly sowed in my recycled bath raised beds
- Compost plans
- What happened to our narrowboat
- Solar panel plans
- And the bridge over the lake to a mysterious island
Hope you enjoy, and thank you so much for subscribing and joining me on our new DIY adventure - I really appreciate it 💖

Something I've always wondered.... what was the first ever video you discovered of mine? (Oh, and THANKS SO MUCH FOR SUBSCRIBING 💖)
I think it was your summerhouse shed build videos for me... Dreaming of doing something like that myself, but still haven't! (Too many other projects/life has got in the way)
@@awtah, my old workshop 😊 I need to do something like that again, too 🥰
the shed roofing video, because that was what I was researching to do at home for a summer house..
I think it was 'The ugly truth about our abandoned farm' that I stumbled upon a few weeks ago, them went to the first video of you here and got caught up over the next few weeks. Got caught up with the last video.
Perhaps oddly, but your videos often remind me of my Dad since he was a trade carpenter. Though where you seem fine with piping but not confident with electrics, my Dad was the opposite, fine with electrical stuff, but wouldn't touch water stuff.
I will say, that kind of I noticed specifically in this video... your showing what you've done 'off-camera' is very much appreciated. A lot of others seem to not think to do that, but it is really nice to see. Plus, means when we do see those mini beds won't be wondering when they came about.
Anyways, very much hope your throat clears up quickly.
I know exactly which one you mean! Down my Dad's woodyard 😀
Hi mr.&mrs. tcd, about your solar, why would you put solar panels on your roof? with all that land, you could put up a ground array, the benefits of a ground mounted array are that you can place the array at the optimal position, angle to the sun vertically and horizontally to the sun/light. Also it makes cleaning the panels easy peasy, making them more efficient, also with more airflow on the back of the panels, the panels keep cooler, also adding to production. The only reason panels are put on a roof is that in most cases, space is limited. Plus you can make your array as big as you want and add to it at any time easily. I hope you feel better soon mrs. tcd, all the best x
Regarding Solar... Your house and, particularly, grounds are IDEAL for this! Choose a system which is expandable, as your energy needs switch from gas to electric. Start with a MINIMUM of 4kW of PV panels, and matching inverter. Storage batteries are now also very worth looking at. You can either fill them from your unwanted/surplus summer sunshine, or from cheap rate overnight electricity, and then run your house the following day on that. Again, look at systems that you can add to in the future. I would probably start with a MINIMUM of 10kWh storage batteries, but double that if you are going for a heat pump of any kind. It's an investment, but it will pay for itself and reduce your carbon footprint. This was all ROCKET SCIENCE just a few years back, but is all routine stuff now, if you have the money! Go with a large company who can provide you with local references.
Get well soon! Congratulations on over 100,000 subscribers and thanks for allowing us to come on the journey with you! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏💕
Thanks so much! Happy you're enjoying it 😊
Lovely Jubbly !!! - Congratulations on receiving your CZcams subscribers award. It is much deserved .
Please get that lake dug out, it would be such a great feature to have a bridge leading to that island. You could have your very own, albeit small, island!
I completely agree! We saw a property with a spectacular lake shortly before viewing this one which had a island in the middle and it was stunning with so many mallards, and I think this could equally be as impressive 🥰
@@TheCarpentersDaughterUK An island with a small cabin on it would be even wilder!
Congratulations on slumming it with only one boat. And your 100k award.
The first video i ever saw of you was of conservatory blinds (many many moons ago) and i thought wow another woman that can 💪🏼and has a go. Well done on the 100k subs 👏🏻
The more you uncover the more we can see that you have a gem of a property there ♥️
We think so too! So much going on here with lots of history 😍
the photo of the island as it was ,looks superb with a bridge ,has got 2b food for thought,2b another project remake
Paint the bridge red add gravel to the pony side to make into Japanese garden 🎉🎉
I'm your 100,000th subscriber, you can thank me later 🙃 just kidding 😆 First video i saw of you was slabs at back door i think. Been a fan since (not a crazed one though lol) I really admire a woman who's not scared to get her hands dirty. To do what is classed as "mans job" if a man can do something so can a woman.
Congrats Vikkie, well deserved 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
See if you can find any polytunnel companies that sell off their damaged/defective sheeting. That stuff will last for years.
Congratulations on selling the boat! That must be a weight off your shoulders. The lake - you could remove the bridge seeing as it isn't needed now. You could create terraces on the built up land that lead down to the water. On coughs and colds - try a drink of warm water, lemon juice, fresh ginger, cayene pepper, a Beecham's Powder, dash of brandy/whiskey and a good sleep. Bone broth is the best defence against coughs and colds. You make bone broth and keep it stored in the freezer in small amounts. Add it to soups, bakes, pasta, etc, to ward off colds. I used to live in Ibiza where there is a lot of humidity. In the winter, everything was damp, so I would get a cold after being outside for 15mins. I started having soup with chicken broth every day and stopped getting colds. Another thing I learnt from living abroad (strangely!) is that clothes made from natural materials are also good for warding off colds...cotton, silk, wool. Finally, congrats on the 100k award! An amazing achievement 💯💥
Congratulations again Vikkie. I hope you are feeling better soon. I think you only have to worry about carrot fly once you start pulling them up.
The little low building in your pasture suggests to me it was for pigs. Now pigs would be very good at getting rid of brambles and provide a money source later. On tractors, always stretch your self to the one up from what you are thinking you will find more use for it. Your land of Narnia is progressing well.
No sucking of eggs intended but get the best solar panels and batteries you can afford. You have enough room there for additional batteries. Be interested in the project.
Great progress and a nice reward with the play button :)
For ASHP/GSHP, 5 years ago GSHP was a bit of a no brainer if you have the land to be able to the horizontal install. The decision is much harder now, yes GSHP are more efficient when it's cold but nowhere near as much as they used to be. We have plenty of land and our ASHP should be installed by the end of next week :) The SCOP of newer ASHP are pushing 4 now and the GSHP are not significantly better. We determined that the better way to spend the money was to go ASHP over GSHP and spend on reducing the flow temperature by increasing radiator output and improving insulation in the house.
Solar/Battery, the biggest saving is getting the batteries, it allows you to shift your usage to the night rate in our case reducing our energy bills by about 70%. It's especially good if you can get on to the Octopus Intelligent Go tariff as the low rate is only 7.5p/kwh but you'll need an EV or at least a supported charge point a friendly EV owner who'll let you test charge with their car. The solar is very nice and environmentally better but the payback period is longer than the batteries.
Tractor wise, they're amazing tools, so many things get so much easier with one. I'd suggest getting a front end loader (FEL) and hydrostatic transmission, it's more expensive but far more maneuverable for the type of work we both do. You can also have fun making a tooth bar for the bucket.
As always if you have any questions please ask, we're in a similar journey just 5 years further on and without the 100k followers :)
Oh and I'd definitely reinstate the extra bit of pond :)
Well done Mr and Mrs TCD. A very well earned award. ❤🎉🎉
You could have fish in the lake.
Congrats, you are a HARD worker. Thanks for your videos ...
Get well soon. Definitely excavate the pond if you can.
Definitely open that lake it will look superb when you're done
If you go for solar panels you can dry your firewood fast and cheap.
You have that old storage container, stack your wood in it and put a building dryer in and in a few days your wood is dry.
Would be nice to see pony bones dug out and been made to what it was.
So glad you decided on my help and have a restraining scrap so the top would not fall on the ground with wind
Many congratulations on your award. Looking forward to the solar install. Definitely the right way to go, but do your homework as you don't get caught out having the wrong system installed. Also worth having 3-5 quotes for comparison. Post an update once the renewables company has visited and given you a quote.
Well done for so many subscribers.
Having an island would be great.
Congrats on the silver award
Thank you so much ❤️ ❤️❤️
Congratulations On Your 100,000 Subscribers And Keep On Building.
You could use pallets for a compost bin
How about a tractor with digger attachment 😂👍👍👍Happy Easter 🐰🐰🐰🐣hope you feel better soon we are sick of these colds 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Brilliant and and congratulations Vikkie, you deserve it, not forgetting the Mr too, here’s to you! 🥂
The bridge looks great, not sure about digging it all up, there has to be a reason they filled it in the first place, flooding?
I started watching your slimming world videos years ago. I also remember watching a tiling tutorial and I’ve just checked and that was 8 years ago. 😮 😂
You can build your own batteries for the solar, check out Off Grid Garage.
Fabulous progress, hope your cold goes away soon, and congratulations on your 100K subscriber and recognition from CZcams
For me the first video was re felting a shed roof, your was more thorough, and made sense to me, ours is not a shed, its a big shed called a cabin 16ft wide 8ft deep in old money, now a subscriber.
Thanks so much for sticking with me 😀 A few people have said this one, and funnily enough the video performed terribly initially 😆
It’s mad that u made a life with your boat with limited space , and look how much you’ve got now, there’s a saying [ somethings happen for a reason] so I think you earlier attempts to purchase a house was meant to be , because this house was just waiting for you👍
Congratulations! Definitely get yourself a little tractor with a bucket, and hire an excavator for a couple of weeks. So satisfying what you can achieve in a short space of time compared to working by hand. Ps the husky voice suits you!
Happy Easter! WOOHOO! Here's to a million subbies ahead😊 I've been meaning to ask. What does the nickname you gave hubby mean?😊
big well done on the 100k Vikkie!
Well done on your 100,000th. Only just started watching, but i think I'll be here a while yet. Always a big fan of the tv show. The Good Life, and you seem to be living it for real.
Well done on the 100K, here's to 1 millionth !!!
Hahaha! Thank you 😊
Love how your farm is looking after all the brambles are removed and burnt up. You are going to have a beautiful homestead one day. Your garden beds are looking awesome. Congratulations on your 100,000 YT plaque. Hope you have a speedy recovery; I really hate having a cold and losing my voice. See you next week.
Carrots are slow to germinate (2-3) weeks. Check the soil under your cover daily and water lightly if it looks dry. If the soil dries out you will get spotty germination. Another method is to plant the seeds and place boards on top of the rows to hold in the moisture. Works great!
Congratulations on your award 😊
WELL DONE VIKKIE very well deserved, the joy you bring to us subscribers is second to none ,get well soon pet ,and don't overdo do things !!!!xxxx❤👌👏👏👏
Get well soon!
When youre buying plastic sheeting or sacks for example, look for listings that tell you the guage or micron thickness. ( A rubble sack is usually 120 microns) for context.
Congratulations on 100,000 subscribers x
Congratulations well deserved.x
Wish you better well done on youtube😊
You are starting to get into the planting and growing on an almost industrial scale. Those bath beds should be a real help for your seedings. I recently bought a small warming pad and boy it accelerated my seedlings, from sowing to noticeable seedings in 8 days. My previously sown seeds took weeks and had a much lower success rate. You certainly have a load of land though you also have a load of problems with brambles and other troubles. I love the idea of shredding stuff and turning it to compost, but at that scale? That looks a bit daunting. Glad the old boat sold, the bramble boat might be beyond either salvage or sale, good luck with that one! Congratulations on your earned subscriber check point, well done, commiserations on your indisposition, it is amazing how badly jobs go when you are even slightly under the weather, that said you have achieved great things since the last 'show'.
Congratulations on your 100k award Vikkie, I have been following your progress for a few years now! Not sure which video was the first but one I distinctly remember the one on you testing out the bench top band saw, as I was looking to get one myself!
Be nice to put some carp and roach in the lake, they’ll keep it clean, along with some oxygenating plants. Keep up the good work and look forward to seeing your next project.
Hope you feel better soon Vikkie and many congratulations on your subscriber milestone. First video of yours that I discovered was when you first moved in, and you've done such a lot since then! Well done. X😊
Hard work but just .... magnificent. Can just see the bridge island covered in flowers with a massive blossoming tree in the middle! Love the channel - love the barry white voice - love the energy. ❤
Peace be upon you, God willing
And congratulations on the CZcams shield
Congratulations Vikkie on your award well deserved, hope you get well soon.
Congratulations on your 100,00 subscribers
More unexpected surprises just keep appearing don't they, what an amazing property. How do you know where to start first Vikkie with all the amount of jobs that need doing? I'd be overwhelmed. Ps such a proud moment for you receiving the Silver plaque as its been well earned over the last several years. 😊😊
Congratulations 🥳
On your 100.000 you tube subscriber award
Well done 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Love ❤️ what you do
Cheers 🥂

Hope you have a great week.
Australia 🇦🇺 👍👍👍👍👍👍
April Fool ! it's made of chocolate, happy Easter ! :D
Aww congratulations ❤ get well soon!
Congratulations on your 100000 subscribers love your channel
Congratulations 🎉
Congrats on the 100k! That little lake/island will look amazing once the island is restored.
congratulations 🙌
Congratulations on reaching 100k subscribers Vikkie (and to Mr TCD for the Camera work) well deserved.
I would definitely restore the Bridge to past glories, and also dig up that area so that the Bridge is back to being used for the Island.
I don't think there is Pony/Horse bones among those brambles or whatever is there, wouldn't there be some sign or something saying "here lies Shergar😂" i just think it would look nice as it was years ago, if you can do it.
Get well soon, Congratulations again and Take Care.
Barry (the Wirral)
Bless your heart. Get well soon and congratulations once again.
❤️
solar is a great idea , i have 7.2 kws of panels and 15 kwhs of pylontech batteries, it did cost 13k but i have never regretted it.
That's good to know as a few tell me we'll never make our money back on the savings
@@TheCarpentersDaughterUK energy prices fluctuate all the time as do fossil fuel prices , people drop 15,20,30 grand on a new car that devalues over time , when they could buy something for 5 grand. For some reason they dont apply ‘getting your money back’ under these circumstances . Solar panels will be saving you money for many years to come!
I discovered you in your little house working on your shed! Congratulations on your 100,000! Well done!
Thanks! Was this the workshop shed/summerhouse?
Well done 👍🏼
I started watching your channel with the summer house videos you made.
Absolutely fantastic
Thanks 🙏
Enjoy 😉
Cheers 🥂
Australia 🇦🇺 👍👍👍👍👍👍
So proud of you with your award, well deserved. Get well soon, another glorious video. X
*Vickie, congrats on getting the YT plaque for having 100,000 subs 🙂🙂Well done on selling the Narrowboat too 🙂I hope you feel better soon 🙂.*
Well done on the 100k subscribers, wonder if my channel will ever reach that milestone lol
Well done Vikkie loving the new property and look forward to seeing you and Mr TCD in May xx
Awww , really enjoy the videos , pond ! It’s looks great in the old pictures , but it’s depends how the pond was lined if it can be resurrected, I reckon it’s probably clay and natural which would mean just digging it out , awful lot of work but you could have ducks !!!! And unlike an ornamental pond it should be low maintenance
Oh congrats on your 100.000 I knew you would do it in no time, and bless your poor throat, my daughter had one horrendous time a few years back with Tonsilitis then Glandular Fever she was very sick, but the girl in Chemist said Sandalwood oil rubbed onto her throat with a base oil, and you know it worked, so if your prone to throat issues do try it. Much love and Have a great week ahead xxxx Dede xx
Vikkie, I discovered you when you were on the boat, looking for property. And, so glad I did. About compose bins, 4 ft. shipping pallets work great. Use heavy bailing wire to hinge them together. And, they are usually free at the big box stores, and grocerers. Just my 2 cents.
Hi Vikkie, well done on your 100000 subscribers, you deserved it, keep up with your DIY and garden projects and get well soon, have a good Easter 👍
Congratulations.
Just sent you important email about solar panels. Hope it helps.
well done for 100 k
Congratulations on your CZcams award! I think you should definitely dig out the lake to make use of that bridge :-D PS, hope you're feeling better soon xo
It was “I bought a problem house” video that first brought me to your channel. I have enjoyed your content since then.
Well deserved on your award. It’s starting to come together well done keep it going. As for the lake if it was mine I would do it and make it bigger 😊😊
congrats on the 100 k super achievement👌
Thanks! 😃
100k! Congrats! 🎉🎊😃👍
Thoroughly deserved. Onwards and upwards!
Congratulations on reaching 100 k subscribers .Its been great following you on your journey ,keep up the video,s and get better soon.
Congratulations for the 100k subscribers.
I enjoy watching not just for DIY, but find your content very entertaining.
Keep it up and you will soon be celebrating 200K.
Thanks so much and happy to hear I'm entertaining 😄
You popped up with your new auction buy. I’m no DIYer but I’m fascinated to see your progress. You have a lovely relaxed presentation skill, it’s a pleasure to watch.
I remember watching you making soups & doing your old kitchen makeover . Get well soon & Happy Easter 🐣
Wow..... you've literally seen me on CZcams since DAY 1 😆😆😆😆 That's very impressive 🥰
I started watching your videos when you were replacing windowsills in the conservatory in your first house.
Wow... that was a long time ago 😄
Congratulations Vikkie, well deserved.
Hello there! My best remedy for sore throat and hoarseness: take a dish towel and fold it up lengthwise twice. Then put on a few spoonful.of white cheese. Wrap it on your throat with the cheese directly on your skin, leave on for 1h. It will get the consistency of window filler 😂 but helps!
Love your videos, before I retired I was an agricultural contractor if or when you buy a tractor i would advise you to get 4 wheel drive and have a foreloader on it and if you can find afford to get a dung fork with a grab it would be so useful and make your life easier, hope you are better very soon
Happy Easter, congrats on 100k, it would be great to see the lake restored to how it was , hope your voice is better soon. Grow some Oranges🍊🍊
My mate popped round with his chainsaw (Stihl chainsaw and all the PPE).
I had already cut off the branches I could with a reciprocating saw (best tool ever).
The high branch he cut with a professional tree timming saw, while I pulled on the rope. When it finally collapsed it was one my side if the garden and didn't damage their fence.
The rest of the willow tree, rope attached and me pulling... professional Stihl chainsaw... one cut he backed off and I kept pulling, second crack, I pulled nothing happening one the third cut and pull the 10m truck collapsed.
My mate was used to cutting dry not living wood.
All in all and reducing it to logs it took no more than half and hour to go from tree to logs to dry out.
well done vikkie, congrats as well on your 100,000 subscriber achievement, so carry on the farm, love your videos anywo take care and all the best 😀
Well deserved award from CZcams. Keep up the good work
The tonne bags are great for planting and growing multiple potato plants. the first video i found of yours was the mud kitchen from around 3 maybe 4 years ago. I built one for my grand daughter and she has played with it for many hours.
