  • Instead of an Empty Stock Move after a Saturday railtour from London - West Wales, Pathfinder and UK Railtours joined forces to run a loaded test run with D1015. Running from London to Birmingham, captured in the Banbury area at Kings Sutton and Great Bourton, the Western is seen in fine form. 57303 was on the rear for insurance.

Excellent sound in the excellent panned shot. Could be standing in for a Class 50 circa 1976! 😄

Why were the class 52s withdrawn after such a short working life? So typical of BR, and so incredibly wasteful!

BR hated the Western regions hydraulic transmissions.

@@dj_dazzy Would it be rude to ask why? To just get rid of something simply because you don’t like it is pathetic and childish!

BR conducted an in depth comparison of running costs and diesel hydraulics cost more to run overall than diesel electrics. The problem was this should have been done before, for example, the Hymeks were ordered and then scrapped prematurely.

@@andrewoverton5170 BR, and to some extent the railway of today, don’t seem to like anything that isn’t classed as “standard”. Anything “non-standard” gets withdrawn and either sold off or scrapped. Wastage isn’t a major problem because £££ is in abundance!
