The beginning of 1993 brought sad news of the death of AW veteran actress Constance Ford, known to AW fans as Rachel's beloved mother Ada Hobson. This great, tough, no-nonsense lady was the epitome of "saying it like it was" and inspired many with her truth and wisdom. Her passing was truly a great loss to the show. The brief storyline where we learn of Ada's falling ill and eventual passing is presented here in her memory.
In Part 1, Rachel discovers that the company's financial report is missing and automatically assumes Jake is responsible. She then gets a frantic phone call from Nancy about Ada.
Rachel learns that Ada is sick in the hospital with pneumonia. She then prepares to leave for Phoenix when Paulina enters.
Rachel informs Paulina of her suspicions about Jake but Paulina defends him. Rachel then informs her about Ada. Paulina tries to assure her that Ada will pull through as Rachel talks about how much everyone needs Ada around.
Rachel informs Iris of her leaving for Phoenix to be with Ada. Amanda tells Rachel that she's going with her to Phoenix while Paulina takes care of Allie. Before leaving, Ian gives to Rachel the missing financial report that was left in the car. Rachel apologizes to Paulina for accusing Jake.
Paulina tries to get ahold of Jake to let her know about Ada, to no avail. At a college dance, Matt informs Felicia about Rachel flying to Phoenix to be with Ada.

I remember this episode when it happened... Ada was the fire of that show. And she had no problem putting Rachel in her place when Rachel floated too high. I also miss the soap itself. It should have NEVER went off the air. RIP Constance Ford.
Right. It was really trying to get back really good again. The last 5 years they had 5 different head writers so I get why it felt the way they felt... Then they turned Jordan Stark into somebody else, I loved Cindy and Grant together they were 🔥.

Connie Ford was the foundation of AW. It became a little dimmer when she died and it was like losing another member of the family. Forever RIP Ada.
Connie Ford - the woman EVERYONE wants in their family, to love us and keep us in line, have fun with and get things SORTED!
Remember Connie as the one who slapped SANDRA Dee in the classic “A Summer Place.”

wow...memories...30yrs later....amanda, matt, ian, rachel, iris, jake, paulina, ada, gil,etc...definitely chokes me up! that was the time when we kids were the remotes and watched it everyday after school

It's 2021, and I miss Ada and Liz and Bridget. These three beautiful older actresses always took me away.
@@markwaltz3307 I had adored Ada, Rachael, Iris and Mac, those storylines were some of the best ever written! When Mac had died, immediately the show could never again be the same, sad that also Beverlee Mckinsey had never returned, she had such an alluring almost evil nature wrapped up within one classy woman! The later years of Another World I hadn't much cared for though, but those glory days were really something else!!

Two blows the show never got away from was when Douglass Watson and Constance Ford.
Honestly, it was the beginning of the end of the show. These two actors were the heartbeat of the show.

My mom watched AW my whole childhood, so from time to time, I pick a random AW episode and watch it. I really feel like the writing was so much stronger (along with the production). It's a little taste of home when I watch.
I remember when Ada married a charater named Gil, a police cheif. She was hard as nails especially when Rachel did stupid stuff, but something about Gil softened her up. He'd come in through the back door after work with his lunch box, always complementing his wife. In all those scenes she'd be cooking. And they would always hug and kiss. They were one couple that was very much in love. I found out later that Gil was played by Dolph Sweet, the dad on Gimme A Break. I've looked for clips with Ada and Gil but sadly none are available before 1979. If anyone have those clips please upload some or all. Thank you!

I just looked this up because a random video reminded me of my neighbor growing up. His mother's name is Gail Duggan but her stage name was Gail Brown. She played Clarice. Very nice woman and a great mom.

OMG my mother was hooked on this soap and got me hooked too...used to race home after school to catch the show with her, watched right to the end. Cass Winthrop, Felicia, Jake and Victoria? The names will come back and so will the memories as I watch these episodes again. Thanks for posting them.
My mom too. She even got my brothers into it. Tough working guys who often stopped in to have lunch with her during the soap. Beautiful roasts, roast chicken, all the sides while they watched the soap. Then back to work. Good times.

Victoria Wyndham was so amazing on this show.
She always gave very disciplined performances throughout her tenure on the show, even as her peers (Erika Slezak, Susan Seaforth Hayes, Robin Strasser) became hammier over the years.
Thank you as well for adding these clips. What a loss for Another World at that time. With these clips and the existing ones on Mac's death, the only ones we are missing now are Wallingford's.

Rest in peace my grandmother this was one of your favorite shows Hallelujah Jesus yes Lord right after Days of Our Lives I thought these days would never end I really did cuz we got to watch Dark Shadows after another world went off but you could not make a sound when this soap opera was on this was a tragedy to take it off the air when talk showmania went crazy now it's just a vortex🤔 boy I miss another world it wouldn't be the same today❤😪🌹

Even 30 years after her death, soap fans are still talking about Constance Ford whether it be her movies or TV appearances or her role on Another World. If she wasn't so good, we wouldn't want her as our best friend or grandmother or hostess at a big public function. I want Ada as my grandmother, Aunt Liz as a confidant whom I have to remind to keep things secret and Bridget as someone I need to just go to for a hug. This soap opera had the best older women and good writers. To think that Rachel and Felicia and Donna would be the matriarchs on the show today. I would hope if the show was still on the air, they would be mentioning the older women characters from the past which would also include Mary Matthews.

my favorite constance ford scene on a.w was her dancing to in the mood while mopping her kitchen floor you would not see that today, she was real her chrachrer relatable because of its humanity and subtility though she could tell racheal how it really was a foundation for other actors to see and learn from.
My favorite soap. I lived in northern Michigan. Would visited Bay City from time to time. Everytime I past by the site where Rachel Cory house located in Bay City. Has a rod iron gate around it. Sad when it ended..

So miss both another world and guiding light they were will always be far more superior then the 4 remaining crappy written shows that are left. I dont even consider them soaps because there there garbage there is a serious hole void in daytime the daytime genre will never be the same again and will never recover not since the stupid networks decided to cancel some of the more superior soaps like another world. Somerset texas. Search for tomorrow guiding light as the world turns the doctors love of life. Ryan's hope. Loving the city . But especially both AW and GL. The death of. Mac. Ada. Wallingford. Brian in real life to. And other reallife AW actors in reallife. as well as bert bauer on GL. Were sad. I used to rush home from middle school every day to watch another world from 2pm untill 3pm then cath and watch the other superior soap guiding light from 3pm until 4pm so from 2pm until 4pm I could not be bothered I didn't care if there were zombies or jason with his hockey mask right behind me standing right behind me I could not be disturbed . CBS delebertitly savatoge guiding light by moving it from 3pm to 10am in the morning. And get it cancelled all so it could keep its 2 inferior shows both the uneven and very poorly written the young and the restless and the terribly written the bold and the beautiful . And NBC would rather keep and fight for its poorly written act fy and lets kidnap everybody every 6 sec. Days of our lives. Which has a very measly 1.1 to 1.0 number haha and those other 2 jokers dont even have the big numbers that they once have bold has a 1.8 and.young has a 2.0. And a 2.1 number haha some comfort even the godawful general let's have rape victim marry her rapist hospital is suffering it's right next to days in the ratings with a measly 1.4 number haha good for them that's what happens when you patray rape in such a disgusting manner I hope all 4 of those losers get cancelled after all nothing last forever not even 4 of the worst t.v shows in television history. Long live both AW. And GL. Those were far better written shows and had far better written love stories and it's the weddings of kurt and mindy on guiding light and the double wedding of mac rachel and sandy and Blaine on another world . Along with steve and betsey wedding on as the world turns that became the most legendary soap weddings in the history of soaps not the women who married her rapist it's just so sad that the knuckle heads at soap opera digest dont ever give any attention to those legendary weddings like they do luke and laura very poorly written wedding on general stupid. So sad. Shame on these editors at s.o.d and all of these soap fans and. Critics who continue to support a show and its executive producer a stupid women mind you who would patray rape in such a disgusting way. Gloria monty was a poor very poor excuse of a human being.
