Title: Bulk condensation driven by an interface: anti-diffusion in active granular matter
Event: (ADIW04) Anti-Diffusion in Multiphase and Active Flows
Abstract: I will discuss our recent experiments, theory and simulations, with R Kant, R K Gupta, H Soni and A K Sood (see arXiv:2403.18329) on a vibrated monolayer of millimetric grains. After an introduction to this simple realisation of active matter, my talk will present results on condensation of non-motile particles through the agency of a tiny population of orientable motile grains. I will offer an understanding of these anti-diffusive phenomena through a theory with a naturally non-reciprocal Cahn-Hilliard structure.
