    It's best to use liquid teflon. Tape strands can come off and enter your air system as well.

    I changed an airbag a couple months ago , this morning I saw the plate or part at the bottom of airbag was missing, any idea why, may be the nut at the bottom became off and that caused it

    • @Starkeyfamilyfixing
      @Starkeyfamilyfixing  Před rokem

      If you over stretch the airbag then you can rip the bolt apart , but if the bottom of the airbag was missing all your air would be gone .
      If your meaning the platform the airbag is bolted to then that could have rotted or broken off . This I have seen happen.

    You can preventable rebuild the air albow fitting with new o ring inside where you push it in.

  • @stevenerpelding1946
    @stevenerpelding1946 Před 3 lety +3

    Don't need jacks just cap air line you removed. Start truck, pump up other air bags remove and replace.

      @bobblack3870 Před 2 lety

      @@allywilkeforsenate Better yet, fold the line back on itself and tape it to keep it folded. Using any type of clamping on the end is likely to create damage or change the shape (like a crease). Either can create an air leak because the o-ring in the fitting will not seat well.

    • @loganamo
      @loganamo Před 2 lety +1

      Better yet do not try clamping. Remember these lines are plastic and can reduce integrity of line of just Crack.
      Best thing is to put a screw in the end of line to cap off

    I had a person ask me why my airbags air up higher then normal, there is a good reason why . I adjusted them to be a little higher due to hauling heavy permit loads , but in this video they look a lot higher due to I am not on flat ground .
    Before I adjusted the air bags back in 2008 the truck looked like it was sagging in the rear when I hauled heavy coils , so I simply adjusted them up . And no I have had no problems from this though the years , and I drive cross country to about any state. Every truck I have seen can be adjusted.

    • @bobblack3870
      @bobblack3870 Před 2 lety +1

      Adjusting height is OK, but you are also changing the axle pinion angle - unless you compensate by making an angle adjustment. An incorrect angle will create noise, the worse the angle the more the noise, and will wear your u-joints much faster.

      @@bobblack3870 I have 1million , 356 thousand mile on the truck now . Been this way since I adjusted it in 2008 . No problems , no noise, I change the oil yearly with mobil synthetic gear oil .

      my favorite tool is a grinder using a grinding disk or cutoff wheel. I use this in many of my videos . you can pick up a cheap grinder at a harbor freight store for $15 , and the disks are $2 each. its a really good price. i have had my grinder for over 20 years now $12 at the time for it. this will cut that bolt off quick ! and no hassle !

    Suggestion: use mentioned that you used WD-40. That is a poor product to deal with rust. Best practice is to use a product labeled "penetrant". It works better and faster with the primary purpose of counteracting corrosion. WD-40 does not do that. Apply it as early as you can in your process to allow it to do as much work as possible.

    Man you probably installed wrong airbag. It is strangely un-parallel.
    I would reccomend you to use
    ordinary wrench or better torqe wrench
    especially on upper bead plate. On upper side is usually 30-40Nm (Torqes are on sticker)
    When installing you can use
    external air supply
    just enough to lift it

      Next time you can measure distance from center of screw pin on New and old just to be sure.
      It sits strange on video. For lifetime and performance is optimal that center of upper plate and center of piston are aligned.

      when i do videos i have to keep in mine most people do not have proper tools , and seeing a good set of 2 jack stands are $300 or more for a safe weight support , I know most people do not buy them . If you notice in most of my videos I use common tools that most would own , on special jobs i break out my good stuff . It would be unfair to race , using a race car with somebody that can only afford an economy car .

    why do you have an airbag crooked on your truck?It is not right

    • @Starkeyfamilyfixing
      @Starkeyfamilyfixing  Před rokem

      Well I had a lot of comments on this , so I will explain. One guy said that one of the shim plates was wore out on my spring . While that is a common problem on Freightliner truck , this not not my problem. I was doing this job in my driveway and my driveway is uneven, so it appears to have an issue. Next it’s a new airbag, so these can take a few days to stretch out if it’s been sitting on a shelf at the store a long time . My truck is fine , it’s a 2007 model and I bought it in 2008 so it’s fine .

    • @countryboyllccountryboyllc3507

    • @Starkeyfamilyfixing
      @Starkeyfamilyfixing  Před rokem +1

      @@countryboyllccountryboyllc3507 if it’s like this on flat ground , and your airbags are not new then it’s the shim plate on the suspension near that air bag most of the time . Sometimes it’s the suspension itself which will cost you a small fortune to replace, At no real advantage. As long as everything is tight and your alignment your fine , don’t worry about it .
