    The Huawei P50 Pocket is the company's first major flagship to come outside of China in a long while, and it's an exciting foldable … running EMUI instead of Harmony OS and with a few related issues. This is my first impressions video.

    Haven't been interested in a new Smartphone in a long time, but this looks exciting and sensible. Phones have grown in size lately to the point that it's no longer comfortable. Yet with these new foldables you get the benefit of a large touch screen, yet can fold it so it still fits inside your pocket. Secondly, the screen is already protected by design, so you don't need to wrap an additional cover around your phone which again makes it more handy.

      Also got a Flip 3 and at least judging by the imgages and data sheet I do not see any innovation besides higher battery capacity. Samsungs hinge design is most likely much more sophisticated and less proned to fail. Huaweis solution with the screen folded part retracting into the hinge means that there is also a bigger risk for dirt to enter the device. Thats most likely also the reason why the pocket insn't water proof. With the flip 3 there is also only one point where the screen gets bend very drastically, whereas the pocket has two points. Also I would not want to miss to positon the screen where I want. Do not need it often but when, it comes in handy. A bigger battery would be nice to have though.

    Honestly, I'd kill for a progressive web app (PWA) from my bank. I'd love to jump ship to a Linux phone, but everything is tied to the walled gardens of Apple and Google. The web experience feels like 1999 so it's ugly and not in any way mobile optimized, but is clipped without the ability to use or process QR codes that cover the country as a way to transfer cash. I'd probably use it by default even on my current Android phone because of the greater security I can get from the browser sandbox and not having the bank meddle in my business of if my device is rooted and requiring MagiskHide. I actually switched banks because my previous bank detected past MagiskHide... and I use the rooted environment to give myself some more security features like modifying the hosts file and a firewall.

The secular resonance is based on the industry expectations (giving an improvement in the tech trend) but also brings the older ideas such as compactness, single handed usage and perhaps headphone jack(?) in the future. I'm always annoyed with the size of smartphones too, they're always too small and dainty for my big hands. Most phones are dealbreakers because of the thin profile and lack of thick chunky bezels. Make it close to the size of a 7" phablet and an inch thick with a 10,000mah hot swappable battery, headphone jack, and 2 usb ports and i'm sold in an instant. That's my dream phone, not something the size of a credit card with no reasonable way to hold it. My hands are huge, on most screens a fingertip covers 1/4 of the screen and triggers multitouch, gestures. or just doesn't detect like on iphones. I've literally got to lick my pinky finger and use the wet tip to type on an iphone.
      I'm so sick of these little trash tier toys with no features or connectivity that i need being marketed as $1200 gimmicks while i've got to go back to like 2015 to find a phone that's not absolute garbage and that actually WORKS then put a chunky rugged case on it to make it thick enough to hold without disappearing into the folds of my skin. You know that picture of Andre the Giant holding a beer? That's what most phones feel like in my hands lol.
      I'd LOVE a 6" screen, not foldable but flexible. Make the whole phone a moderately stiff silicone case that flexes a bit when it needs to and will bounce when it hits the ground. Raised silicon bezels to protect the screen.

    True 5G doesn't really matter for consumers in the US, since very few places have that coverage. My Verizon 5G is barely faster than LTE.

    First of all great review.
    I think 5G got hyped way too early, pretty much nobody uses it yet and the people that buy expensive phones with 5G now will have a new phone anyway when 5G coverage becomes usable

    For me the choice between this and the Z Flip3 is a no brainer. Z Flip is a better choice in almost every way. Despite this being a triple camera setup, the actually usable ones are just main and ultra wide which Z Flip3 also has. Everything else apart from the battery is better on the Z Flip + it has official rating for water resistance. Only if money is no problem for someone would it be good to buy this phone at this price.

    I wonder how long and what is their usual reason to change phones for people who look for new phone designs. Phones for me for the past 3 years are more on should run simple games (playable in short bursts), reading, messaging and calls, and watch youtube videos. So what i really want is 8 5-6 battery life, access to secure services, do what i want as said before reliably while not overheating and lag or crash.

    I feel like SD cards will be replaced with a faster standard that supports the same or more GB/TB that SD does. Huawei's own Propriteary option, most Likely not. Something made by SD and a Coalition of Companies. Yes.
    Of course I'd choose the Z flip mainly due to Huawei not Working in USA and having being sanctioned due to worries of people being spied on after they tried to get their Phones sold through AT&T and the Government had that Shut down. Might explain why other Chinese companies hadn't made it into the USA. At least I hope the Nothing Phone gets a US Variant as I think It would be a Alright Alternative to the A53 and samsungs Midrange

  • @ProjectPhysX
    @ProjectPhysX Před 2 lety +9

    What exactly is the problem again that foldable pholes solve?
    A normal phone fits in my pocket just as well and has similar screen size. If the foldable thing is just for aesthetics then, is it worth a plastic screen that you can easily scratch with your fingernail? Moving parts will always fail earlier, so the lifetime of this phone is much shorter and repair is not expected a viable option (too expensive/difficult, no parts available). That means it's literally planned obsolescence sold at much higher cost, the dream of any phone manufacturer.

    • @TechAltar
      @TechAltar  Před 2 lety +13

      No regular phone has fit into a regular female pocket in over a decade, so that's part of why the Flip style is typically marketed more towards women. Also, I've been using foldables for almost a year and a half and have 0 scratches on my inner screen, whole I have tons on the one outside. It's the same with everyone else I know.
