Aylin Aylin the point isn't about Kendall taking part of the ad or some crap. It's about appropriation. I myself don't hate Kendall, but I just think the ad was inappropriate and offensive to a great deal of people and what they've been through.

The problem with the pepsi ad isn't that Kendall Jenner joined the protest, in fact it isn't about her at all, or the fact that Pepsi did an ad about the problems that are happening these days. I thought it was good showing the diversity of people coming together and standing up for a cause THE PROBLEM is that they did not show the reality of how things would have gone down if a colored person would have gone up to a police officer in a middle of a protest. If a colored person would walk up they would have been thrown to the ground before they could even take out the can of soda. So the problem isn't that they are speaking up or being bold, it is that they are not showing the reality of things.

    • @jennyrothman28
      @jennyrothman28 Před 7 lety +9

Estefani picen it's an ad, it isn't the news or a documentary on protesting, it is literally just an ad. It is mind boggling to me that people can focus on an ad that is literally all about people coming together when there is so much other stuff going on in the world right now

Estefani picen Thank you sharing your thoughts on it I like how you explained it, I'm curious, what do you think of those who are taking it differently, who have a different perception? Do you think that stems from ignorance or just simply a different perception? I read a few that interpreted it different so I was curious of your take on that, if you don't mind sharing..I know some cops are really kind, not all are corrupt but we also know many that are not nice and many of us also know many protests that don't always go peacefully simply because many cases the cops become aggressive with their authority, I was also wondering if you think it's so bad that Pepsi took this route to showcase a peaceful protest where people can come together rather than the more common ones and if you think it's possible that all this really was, was just stupidly put together like other commercials but no where actually intended to be offensive..sorry I have so many questions I just like how well you structured out your thoughts..

For example, Martin Luther King Jr's daughter said it was a joke and mocked that if only her father had a Pepsi he wouldn't have been thrown in jail. my perception of the ad is this: kendall jenner, a prominent global influence, is doing her job, modeling for a photoshoot, posing, looking cute etc. during her shoot there is a protest going on that is so big it catches her attention. she is in agreement with the message and motive of the protest so instead of continuing to model and pose, (some might say she would have been exercising her white privilege if she were to continue modeling because she is isolating herself and refusing to accept the reality of the situation that's happening right behind her and it's cause) she stops the shoot and joins the protest. now this is a pepsi ad so, obviously, pepsi has to find someway to incorporate their brand into this commercial. they throw a pepsi can in kendall's hand and have her walk up to the wall of police officers and hand one of them a pepsi as a friendly, peace offering gesture (because normally, in any situation, if you walk up to someone you don't know, smile and hand them something, odds are you are trying to be nice/generous). the crowd cheers because their movement is working. the police officer accepting the soft drink means he is accepting their cause and unity is formed between the police and the crowd. it is promoting stepping outside of your comfort zone for a good cause, and peaceful protest which are two things i, as an african american female, have no problem with.

Maybe Pepsi should have chosen a spokesperson that is actually an activist or at least have a voice. Kendall doesn't and haven't had a voice. What has she stood for? So, why make her the face for this campaign? Exactly. If they wanted to whitewash, why not choose Demi or Selena. They both have a voice and stood up for something. Just saying. And to add I'm not a Kendall hater...get that Pepsi money if they are just going to hand it to you. EPIC FAIL.

The problem i have with the Pepsi ad is that Kendall Jenner is someone who in her entire life has not had to protest anything and yet she is going to make money off other people's suffering. Additionally, when companies try and do shit like this it just makes protests look like a part of everyday life, when they are instead a show of desperation from people living in a democracy
Instead of an ad, maybe Pepsi/Kendall should've kept their asses down and instead donated some of their wealth to services which need them, like the national park service or planned parenthood. This ad doesn't help anyone but Pepsi and Kendall Jenner, and they're trying to frame it as "oh we're so socially aware" and that's my problem with it.

lol people are becoming hella sensitive these days, everything stears some kind of sick reaction and people are easily triggered by practically everything. Seriously, I'm not even fan of the girl but the level of pettiness towards her and her family is sometimes taken out of proportion and needs to stop. The AD didn't intend to "portray" a typical protest kind of thing, peaceful protests exist and they are the most beautiful thing you can witness or be part of .The Ad merely portrayed how cool it is if police acted nice and people respected police too, they'd do their job and also the protesters would get what they want without creating unnecessary chaos. It's a mere message of friendliness and understanding , a simple gesture can reflect one's ethics and morals and can inspire respect. hence police won't be as extreme as people expect them to be all the time.
people around the world need to chill out. Yeah it's not only in the US that people are over-analyzing things . This is may be off topic but I came from a certain Kpop artist "scandal" where he joked about how fans should get married to have kids and increase birth rate , he was accused of being a misogynist who abuses women and blame them for the law birth rate lmao!
The world is going nowhere with such twisted mentality.//

I think Pepsi's message was pretty weak in the first place, so it was kind of a fail from the get-go. I thought the worst part of the commercial wasn't that they had a protest at all, but when Kendall Jenner handed the officer a Pepsi and suddenly it was like "bam! all the world's problems are solved!". It was a trivializing move.

I think the biggest thing with her is that she sees it from her point of view. She's not trying to look at it in a different way. So many people have been fighting, protesting, dying, all for a cause and this commercial just shits on it. All Pepsi wants to do is relate to their audience and sell. Money is all they think about.

I just love how people tend to forget that this ad is not solely for their country. There are countries where protesters, officers and protests in general are different from what happened in the US, and this ad represents are peaceful protest which I have experienced many times in my country. And it wouldn't make any difference if the protagonist had a different skin color, because other countries don't have these certain problems the US has and it would have only had an impact/made an impression on US viewers, not on the many others

The Kendall Jenner Pepsi commercial is a way of taking a subject that is sensitive to the public and makes a ton of money off of it by touching their hearts. Do you really think Pepsi has any intentions of actually spreading a message? They happened to use this subject because it has been in the media a lot lately. If Pepsi really wanted to bring light to this subject they should have done it in a realistic manner rather than how they did it here. They should have shown all the times that the police had attacked peaceful protesters, then they should have also shown it the other way around. That would have really created a message unlike touching people's hearts for profit or as Jenna Marbles said "exploiting millions of eyeballs."

Yeah, it's "unrealistic" because it's a hopeful VISION not our reality yet! People micro-analyze because they're bored and they criticize other well-meaning things. I've read comments saying they don't like it just because Kendall Jenner is white and if it was someone of a different race it would be okay.. I don't really get it.

I think the message Pepsi sent was rather screwed up. I like Kendall but I don't understand why she would do this. It is the sort of thing that seems like a good idea in theory but comes across in a negative, offensive and unrealistic manor.

The fact that Erin is basically being that people are getting too sensitive abt this ad just shows how little she knows about the meaning of protesting. Being in a protest is not like being in a music festival, and the fact that Pepsi so wrongfully represented it was very insensitive especially with all the protests going on in the past years for very serious causes. The Pepsi ad was a result of a white washed team that was oblivious to the real environment of a protest, and sorry Erin but I wouldn't be surprised if you were on that team.

Pepsi wasn't trying to be "bold and socially accepting" it feels more like they made a profit and the social thing went with it. they were just tying to please everyone which is why they included the police officers so that any person who doesn't support BLM, or loves police officers and thinks police brutality doesn't exist, wouldn't get upset over the commercial and people who do would be happy that they're sowing a protest. It just doesn't work.

There are so many people Pepsi could have gotten to do it. Someone that has a record of protesting and having a stand whatever that stand. I have never seen anything from this girl other modeling and her show ( I liked her best out of all of them) .I mean good for her and her hustle but I never heard her take a stand on anything. That's the only thing that upset me tbh. This wasn't the commercial for her.

Hey. It's micro analyze because the behavior of those whom are privileged is often appropriate situation comprehensive only to their liking. Empower does not equate whitewashing messaging but is to accept the real situation at hand. The commercial is NOT reflection of any resistance movement talking place, hence the backlash.

I didn't actually have a problem with the Pepsi ad. Reaching across barriers, handing the cop a Pepsi.... I think it's a good message. The conversation has to start somewhere. Protesters shouting and venting,,, it's only a place to start, and if that's all anyone does then nothing will ever change. Reaching out takes courage. Real change will only happen when both sides get together to do the hard work that it takes to make that change. The people who got all offended do not see that... they are not yet ready to let go of their feelings and look to the future.
I think if Coke had put out their "I'd like to teach the world to sing' those same people would be saying the same thing.... and they'd be just as wrong.

Erin & Ryland, you ladies did great on this episode of DHR. My thoughts on this episode: First, I'm looking forward to some new Taylor Swift music in the future, and i'm looking forward to whatever material she decides to put into her new work. Second, after seeing the backlash that Kendall got from her Pepsi ad, the one thing i took from it, and I'm not focusing on Kendall, is unity is powerful and it can bring people together. Third, I'm not surprised that Kim released new emojis from her app. Fourth, i wonder how fans will react to an R-Rated Camp Rock film. To answer your final questions, I think the Pepsi ad did get people riled up, and I'm looking forward to Taylor's new album. Thanks for a fun DHR. #Clevverettes

ok? so the chic in the red hair is saying that the commercial is a step for society to be more socially aware but what i see is that the commercial is treating the situation as a joke. the actions taken place in the commercial are so unrealistic. maybe showing society the real hassle taken place in a protest will open the eyes of society not this BS

Why are people so hateful nowadays? They think that being politically correct means bashing everything that is now 100% perfect and just as reality is. Like, wtf? That ad was no offending anyone, was not racist, nor sexist, nor discriminatory in any kind of ways, shape or form. People, if you think that ad was "wrong", "bad" or has a "negative" connotation, just get out.

i use to be this huge swiftie but not anymore. I still love and adore taylor but not as much as i did about a year ago. I dont know what happened really. Dont hate me when i say this but i'm just not in love with her new songs. I still like them but i just dont have a connection to them like the other songs on her previous albums. I guess pop taylor swift isnt my thing. I love taylor and she will always have a speical place in my heart.
Now, the pepsi add. This commercial has parts that i disagree and i understand why people are mad. But how the fuck does everyone gives a shit about a fucking ad but doesnt give two shits about a fatal chemical attack in Syria. Are everyone just gonna ignore innocent people dying and focus on a fucking Pepsi ad? We need to focus on more important issue than a fucking pepsi ad.

  • @lmfalaschettifalaschetti8680

I'm sure pepsi is confused they put a black AND a brown person in the ad and featured a person who's dad is now her 2nd mom, thought they covered all bases, created by a corporation which is NOT a person, solving a big problem in the US by giving ur opponent a fizzy drink, yeah that'll work
