    There is something truly tragic about Clark and Lana’s relationship that sadly wasn’t explored enough, which is that Clark’s arrival was directly responsible for the death of Lana’s parents, as well as her being raised in a small town by her aunt. Clark’s arrival derailed Lana’s childhood and life in terrible ways, and Clark’s biggest fear wasn’t that Lana wouldn’t understand him being different, or that she would be in danger. His biggest fear was that she would never be able to be with him considering what his arrival did to her.
    We never had even one conversation about that after she found out the truth. When that premise is ripe with interesting drama, a lot more interesting than stupid love triangles.

      Some people forget that Lana’s life was completely changed and she became an orphan because of Clark’s arrival in Smallville. Clark did mention in one of the episodes that he didn’t want to tell her the truth because he was the reason her parents were killed.

    • @VictorHarbour
      @VictorHarbour Před 22 dny

      @@Jan0630 Absolutely. There is an episode in season 4 I believe where the whole town has to face their biggest fears. Clark’s biggest fear was to see Lana blaming him for the death of her parents. Why wasn’t that explored or even mentioned when and after Lana found out the truth? They exhausted the Clana relationship for 6 years, and made her an annoying character, when there was a lot of potential for something a lot more interesting and tragic.

    • @ZakareeRandol
      @ZakareeRandol Před 2 lety +3

      @@joshuarobertson8866 Yes but Smallville isn't about the comics, it's its own separate universe. I have no problem with Comic Lana, she was super sweet and a good friend. But Smallville's Lana post-season 1 was just as manipulative as Lionel Luthor, just a lot more subtle. After Clark saved her from the tornado, she grew to only care about his secret, not him. Seriously, go listen to ANY conversation between her and Clark in season 2 and 3 -- Literally ANY conversation they have -- and Lana will end up turning the conversation into manipulating Clark, trying to get him to tell her his secret. She's so extremely toxic.

    • @joshuarobertson8866
      @joshuarobertson8866 Před 2 lety +9

      @@ZakareeRandol Im currently rewatching the show and my opinion remains.
      The reason the secret was a big deal is really Clark's fault
      -He makes it clear to Lana there is a secret between them
      And again keeps going back and forth regarding his emotions.
      which is confusing and to Lana's perspective makes him a bit of a manipulative A hole because he still gets bothered when she tries to move on and date other people e.g... Jason and Lex but cant be honest with her
      Clark is no saint which seems to be the problem with the fanbase. The way he handled his secret and Lana was pretty terrible.
      Lana definitely cared about Clark beyond the secret
      why? a few examples
      1.Season 4 she wouldnt tell Lex she gave Clark the stone e.g... Lana didnt trust Lex at that point and knew he would not hurt her but may hurt Clark
      2.When she discovers the secret she protects Clark from the Luthors and goes to the extent of marrying Lex
      3. She even chooses to leave Clark in the end in season 8 because she knows her presence is physically killing him
      4.Lana even protects Clark when she becomes a vampire and the other vampires want to hurt him
      But again I don't expect you to see any of this if you dont want to see it.
      We'll just have to agree to disagree and move on.
      I dont think saying she cared about the secret more than him is accurate. Lana mentions a lot in season2 and 3 that she is grateful to Clark for saving her and always being there for her.
      Clark pushed her away because of the secret.

    What I'm wondering after watching this is - How would the ranking have been different without the Clana drama or if their relationship had been handled better?
    I always thought that if Clark had been honest with Lana after the tornado and she dated him through the remainder of their high school years, only for them to go their separate ways as friends after Season 4 or 5, that would have been much better. Then Lana could have come back occasionally as a recurring character for the later seasons, without getting in the way of Clark and Lois.

    To me, the concept of Clark trying to help each person affected by Kryptonite is interesting because it shows he truly blames himself for just being here because it caused pain and inconvenience for so many people. He really does try to save each one, it’s huge for Superman to show he believes everyone deserves a chance and there’s always hope.
    I also think this is mirrored in the season he tracks Phantoms he accidentally released. There’s a lot of consequence to his actions and he always felt guilty because he feels he should do and be everything to everyone. It’s hard to learn you can’t save everyone…. 14:49 RIP Jor El ❤

      Stupid WB exec logic in separating Big Screen characters from tv characters, even if its explicitly said its an alternate timelines/interpretation. The same stupidity continued all the way into the Arrowverse, thats why they dance around characters, logos and names, thats why we never got Batman in either show's universes and thats why it took so long until they agreed to give the ok to use Lois full time in Smallville. Now that I think about it I bet that is the real reason why we never got Clark in the suit.
      Its so stupid it feels like if some randoms were making a rip off show and were trying to avoid copyright infringements lawsuits, with the difference that the people making the 'rip off' are actually working for them, so it makes no fucking sense.

  • @44excalibur
    @44excalibur Před rokem +3

    There were six problems with Smallville that were easily avoidable:
    1. No flights, no tights: This was relevant in the first five seasons, but by season 6 it made Clark seem like he was operating with one hand tied behind his back. Clark should've started flying earlier, and he also should've been able to wear the Superman outfit for more than just the final scene in the final episode.
    2. Metropolis in Kansas: It is logistically and geographically impossible for any city the size of Metropolis to be located in landlocked Kansas, especially since Vancouver doubled for Metropolis, a city that is surrounded by water. Metropolis is an east coast city.
    3. Meteor freaks and Kryptonite being the reason for everything: The X-Files and Buffy the Vampire Slayer managed to do the monster-of-the-week storyline much better by properly balancing them out with the main mythology episodes and character story arcs. Smallville became too dependent on meteor freaks and needed to develop its characters better.
    4. Lana Lang: LANA LANG IS NOT THE WOMAN CLARK ENDS UP WITH AND IS NOT THE LOVE OF HIS LIFE!!! So don't write her like that. She's Clark's high school love interest and has little to no relevance after high school ends in season 4, so her relationship with Clark should've ended for good by season 5. Dragging that storyline out only dragged down the show.
    5. Lois Lane and Chloe Sullivan: After five seasons of buildup, Chloe Sullivan should have become Clark's new love interest after season 5 instead of wasting her character on a sophomoric and inconsequential relationship with the doomed James Olsen, and wasting Clark on two more seasons of obsessing over Lana long after that storyline had run its course. Also, Clark's relationship with Lois Lane should've began much sooner without Lana Lang hanging like a shadow over them and undermining Lois.
    6. Bruce Wayne: Not only did Smallville need Bruce Wayne in Clark's storyline as his best friend, but Warner Bros. should have allowed The WB to go forward with their original plan to create a Gotham-style television show to run as a companion to Smallville in a shared universe, a project that was already being developed back in 1999 as "Bruce Wayne." No disrespect to Justin Hartley, but Oliver Queen is a poor substitute.

    I think that proper Lana goodbye would've been her death at "Reckoning" instead of Jonathan, with her dying despite Clark trying to change the past.
    Jonathan could've died in S6 opening, being the ultimate sacrifice to stop Zod. That way, we'd still have Clark mourning his father AND love interest. Lois could've end up with Lex in S6.
    That way, there would still be "Clark against the world" feel that we had in S6, but it would've been way darker and could put seeds of doubt inside CK that would eventually lead to S10 and whole Darkseid arc. But would've been way too depressing for soap teen drama, I guess.
    Nevertheless, first half of S5 is probably the best 12 episodes of the show straight. At that time, Smallville felt more like a serious drama than your Thursday evening TV show.
    OG show at it's peak.
    UPD: also, the last few episodes of S7 truly show that potential which it had.
    The series should've completely focused on Lex-Clark showdown starting in "Descent" till finale. Had distractions here and there instead. And whole "Arctic" showdown should've been separate episode instead of a few minutes. Like, people were waiting for it for 7 years, come on.

    Ugh the Lana drama....why???!! You described season 8 well with how it's like the show fell asleep for 5 episodes that randomly brought back Lana, and then woke back up as if nothing happened. My biggest pet peeve of the show is that they never gave proper closure to Clark and Lana, and always made it feel like Lois was his second choice rather than his one true love.

    • @ChrisDurban
      @ChrisDurban  Před 3 lety +8

      I agree. They should’ve made it a proper ending for Clark and Lana at the end of season 7, and then it's done. We know Lois isn't 2nd to Lana, but what they did with Clark and Lana in season 8 gives that feeling.

    I agree that the Lana-Clark thing went on WAY too long. I hoped that once Lois Lane came into the picture, Clark would slowly start moving on from Lana in favor of a more mature, witty, and strong-willed woman who didn't ask about his secret every time they talked. As far as I am concerned, Lana Lang was never entitled to his secret because it's personal. Clark Kent being an orphaned extra-terrestrial from a long-gone planet is a lot to take in and is very personal and traumatic. The trauma comes from Clark learning that he is not human, that his birth parents died when his home planet was destroyed, and that he's going to outlive every single human on the face of the planet. Clark was dealing with so much personally that every time Lana demanded Clark tell her his secret, you could tell how uncomfortable he was because of trauma and not knowing how to say out loud "I'm an Extra-Terrestrial from a long-gone planet called Krypton".
    I mean that Clark's secret isn't something that is easily verbally communicated and is hard to wrap someone's mind around. Also, Clark didn't want anyone to look at him differently and was afraid that Lana would hate him for inadvertently killing her parents, even though he had no control over the meteors that showered Smallville.
    Smallville as a whole is a great TV Series and I love watching it. I only wish the Lana-Clark thing was resolved sooner. No shade to the Actor who played her. Kristin did a wonderful job. I just wish the writing was better.

    I was trying to rank the seasons but I honestly love them all, even seasons 4 and 8 which I heard were generally disliked. I have a love hate relationship with the Lana thing, it was annoying and definitely toxic at times (especially the early seasons) but I really liked how tragic things turned. Clark seeing Lana's video with Lois comforting him and Clark and Lana's final goodbye were both extremely powerful, well acted scenes that really got to me. But back to the ranking, Season 10 would definitely be my number 1, the 200th episode is one of the reasons. From the flashbacks, to the funny yet entertaining high-school reunion story, to Lois and Clark's CUTE dance at the end... hands down one of the best episodes to ever celebrate the legacy of a TV show. I honestly felt like crying because it was just so well done. No other TV show has made me feel this way except Supernatural and how they celebrated their 200th episode.

    Every Smallville season. My joint personal favourites are seasons four and six and my least favourite was season eight, but tbh I liked every season of this great show as it was so consistent and awesome and Clark Kent's journey in Smallville was nothing short of spectacular to watch imo after seeing every he went through before he took to the skies, though I agree some episodes and seasons were better than others but overall I loved every second of every episode of every season of this brilliant show thanks to its awesome cast and crew who did a fantastic job and why it lasted for ten seasons as everyone on Smallville must've been doing something right for it to last that long. Will we ever see anything like this again? Who knows but I'm happy that this show exists and I love it for what it is and what it did and I wouldn't change anything about it, though there’s places where the writing could’ve been better and Tom Welling could’ve put the Superman suit on. For me Smallville started off good with season one, two and three, got better with season four, five, six and seven, went down a little bit with season eight then picked up again a little bit with seasons nine and ten, but in all honesty, every season was good imo, though we all have our views on them and that's ok. I have a couple of things. With Doomsday season 8. Couldn’t they just save Davis by splitting him from Doomsday and then have Clark fight Doomsday and then bring him To the phantom zone and destroy Doomsday’s body+Turning him into a Phantom. With Darkseid couldn’t they Made Darkseid look like a human without the usual Darkseid’s Color. Kinda like what they did with Brainiac making him look like a human instead of make him a robotic like person. That would have been so much better For me don’t you think.

    • @ChrisDurban
      @ChrisDurban  Před 3 lety +3

      With Doomsday I think the message was Davis, the human side, was just as much a monster as Doomsday. Season 9 is more than Clark just mourning Jimmy, he is coming to terms with the darkness in humanity. He was taught his human side was good not his Kryptonian side, and that view was truly challenged.
      I see what you mean about Darkseid. It definitely would've been more of a character that way. Maybe it would've been more interesting if he had possessed mirror-verse Lionel sooner, and walked the earth as him. I would've been down for more of that!

  • @DCMarvelTMNT2003fan
    @DCMarvelTMNT2003fan Před 5 měsíci +1

    10: Season 3 Good, but my issue with it is i didn't really care for the Lana and Ian Somerhalder subplot, it's a great season for Lex and Lionel. Another thing about season 3 is when Clark gets stabbed, that was a rough episode my first time through, its gotten better but it was just a lot to take in.
    9: Season 7 There are some plot holes due to the writer's strike, like how did Kara get into the phantom zone? I honestly didn't know when she became Brainac and honestly i felt like the Lex story didn't end in the best way for Rosenbaum's last season as a regular.
    8: Season 8, the main reason is because I didn't care for the Chloe and Davis arc, I loved Allison as Brainac and I kind of felt like Sam Witwer's performance at times was weak, he's a great actor, but I admit i struggled with some of the scenes he was in.
    7: Season 2 I think my biggest issue with season 2 is I had a bit of a hard time with Clark destroying the space ship at the end, i know it was necessary, but i kind of had a hard time with it for some reason.
    6. Season 6 I love season 6, its got some great moments, but there are also some things i don't like for example, i didn't like the whole Lana and Lex story in Season 6, I agree with you there, but overall its a good season.
    5 Season 1 It's a great start to the series and I think my biggest thing with season 1 is the beginning with Whitney and Clark, it gets better, but i think that was hard for me.
    4 Season 9 A great season, lots of fun stuff, Martha returns with Perry White which i think was fun, The whole Justice Society story was fun and i enjoyed it, plus seeing Tess Mercer interact with the Red Queen was fun as well.
    3. Season 5, my biggest issue in this season is Lana and Lex, i hated that part, but enjoyed most of it.
    2. Season 4, I didn't have very many issues with season 4, it's the introduction of Lois Lane, plus Chloe finds out Clark's secret, I kind of love the whole Isabell storyline with Lana, Jason is a fun character, and I like his conclusion.
    1. Season 10, a great ending to the series, so many returns, i don't think there is one episode i didn't enjoy, plus i love Tess' redemption arc.

    Season 8 is so damn hard to rank because overall it's one of the best most focused seasons by far throughout and I love the Davis Bloom storyline descending into madness and becoming Doomsday. I hated that finale. Hands down the worst finale of the show and never have I been so disappointed with this show. All that hype, all that promise just for that. It kills me everytime. The stuff with The Blur is also great. I also think Tess was a great addition to the cast and while she's no Lex they give her a lot of depth for a new character introduced in the eighth season of a show. They really developed her character and made her someone you are intrigued by and enjoy watching. But I agree the Lana storyline and bringing her back with powers and then her taking on Lex who's not really the Lex we've watched for Seven seasons so that and the finale drop it immensely for me and honestly I was disappointed with Oliver Queen this season. After his awesome introduction and storyline in Season 6 and bringing him back in Season 7 to now he's a full on regular in Season 8, I was expecting a full on Green Arrow and instead he was sidelined and that brings Season 8 down for me a few spots but my god the potential it had to be a top 3 season. Ughh! That finale kills me.
    Season 3 is actually the first full season of Smallville I watched and it was my first real introduction to TV shows so it will always hold a special nostalgic place in my heart and even back then I could tell that was going to be one of if not the best season of the series. I binge watched that Season so many times. It was my favorite season of any show for a long time and still is my favorite Smallville Season and while they waste a potentially great character in Adam played by Ian Somerhalder, there's really nothing to gripe about this season. It's so focused and has the same dark tone throughout and I love that. I agree this is Lex and Lionels season and Clark and Johnathons in a way as well. It's really a season with two different relationships with Lana wedged in the middle, Chloe gets an extended role here and she feels hurt and betrayed by Clark so she starts working with Lionel, Pete really doesn't have a lot to do here and they finally write him knowing there's not much more they could do. That mid-season finale is great two with three of Clarks biggest and baddest freak of the week villains coming back and teaming up and seeing Lex actually try to help him. Damn I was rooting for Lex this season hard. That finale is still the best episode and finale of the series in my opinion. It felt like award winning television. It was that good. The two part opener was also great and so was all the stuff with Jesse Metcalf. Honestly I could rave about this season and go on and on and on. Even the flashback episode with Clark's father Jor El and Lanas great aunt or grandmother whatever she was. I love that episode too. There's just so much to love about that season and the nostalgia will never die.
    Season 5 is my number 2 though when I first watched it, I was blown away and thought it was number one but after rewatches Season 3 took the number one spot again. Braniac really should've been a regular. James Marsters who I'm a huge fan of playing Spike in Buffy, when I found out he was gonna playing Braniac, I lost my shit and knew it was gonna be good and his performance would rival Rosenbaums as the best villain of the series. It did because Braniac is still number 2 for me all time. I'm not crazy about the finale and again with the Clark and Lana drama that keeps it from the number one spot where Season 3 the Clark and Lana drama was effective and essential to that season and the overall storyline but Season 5 it felt played out and tiresome at that point and I wanted him to just move on to Lois which they weren't there yet but a friendship did start developing in Season 5 but very early stages. Season 5 really did feel like four seasons of buildup and a lot of storylines finally coming to fruition. Chloe just gets better from here on out. Johnathons death was really sad and vital to Clarks growth. Also Lexmas is another top 10 episode for me. It's another episode and really the last remaining hope for Lex and to see him make the wrong choice is so sad and heartbreaking to watch. To see Lionel so cruelly turn his own son away when he's desperately asking for help is just crushing. At that point Lex really did love Lana and did want to change but when he saw her die and he couldn't do anything to save her, there was no going back and nothing left for him to look forward to. Overall great season and the last truly great season in my opinion. Not to say the later seasons aren't good they are but none ever reached the heights of Season 5 following after.
    Season 9 and 10 I have watched the least so I definitely need to rewatch those two again to truly see where I would rank them. I used to rank Season 9 at the bottom upon initial watch but I think I need to really sit down and rewatch it and same with Season 10.
    Season 7 I think the second half is among the best of the series. They really started to get into a groove there and try to finish strong with the writers strike and while it wasn't perfect I do think they tied up things as well as they could considering. Kara was wasted though.
    Season 6 I actually find to be the darkest season of the series even Season 3. It starts off really strong. Those first few episodes aren't bad and that middle first half is really good. It's the second half that falls apart with the Clark/ Lex/Lana love triangle. This season had so much potential but overall the focus wasn't where it needed to be and it's a very uneven season overall. I barely remember the finale as well.
    Season 4 has three top 10 episodes. Freaking nuts but it's the weirdest season by far and just all over the place. Jensen Ackles is wasted and I don't blame him for leaving and doing Supernatural cause he wasn't gonna get much development passed Season 4. I don't mind the Witch episode when Lana, Lois and Chloe get possessed. As a standalone episode it's a fun one and one that's great during Halloween but when that Witch storyline returns in Tokyo and then being linked to the Teagues is when it gets silly and you gotta ask yourself why, where are they going with this. I love that season opener and that finale. But even with those strong episodes and Onyx and hearing Clark say crowns mine bitch during that funny prom episode and the football storyline and bringing back Clarks old love and Chloe finding out Clarks secret it's still just a weird unfocused season that doesn't connect at all.
    Season 2 has a good story throughout and there's not really many filler episodes either which is great for a sophomore season to a new hit show. The finale was also great, the JTT episode is one of my personal favorite freak of the weak villains and of course the Christopher Reeves episode, the episode where Lex has to take on a bunch of robbers, the Paul Wesley episode where Lex step or half brother returns, i wish they brought him back for more episodes, the ancient tale of good vs evil and Lex and Lionel trying to uncover what's in the caves, Heat, Ryans last episode, there are a lot of great episodes here.
    Season 1 I think laid a great foundation and there are some great moments and episodes here. This is by far my favorite Lana season when she was likeable. Couldn't stand Whitney at all and loved the introduction of Lionel and Chloe.
    I can't do an accurate ranking until I rewatch Seasons 9 and 10 but Season 3 and Season 5 are definitely top two hands down. Season 2 is in third for now but that could definitely change if 9 or 10 end up aging better for me upon rewatch.

    I don’t care what people think is the best season, all I know is season 4 is probably the worst piece of television I’ve ever seen. The whole Hocus Pocus witch plot was terrible and it almost turned me off from the entire show. Good thing pretty much every plot line from this season was abandoned and only rarely mentioned.

    Firstly, great list, great video. I grew up with Smallville and loved it. I’d put season four higher due to personal bias, TMI, I hit puberty in season four and had the biggest crush on Erica as Lois (my first sex dream). But also it, as you said set up great chemistry for future seasons. I echo your statement that Erica is the best adoption of Lois Lane. And also season five is amazing, my favorite too, for all the things you mentioned, it does hurt that Jonathan had to die (best TV dad ever) but it wasn’t for shock value, it was necessary to advance the plot and for Clark to become his own man. Plus season five had the Stars and Stripes routine, which again goes with my Lois bias. Ps I don’t mind Lana in the show but once Lois showed up she felt more of a road block than a character (due to everyone knowing the future through comics/movies) , more so later in the seasons. Nothing against the actress I thought she was she was great, but fuck when she rocked up in season 8 (I think) when Lois and Clark were making progress I almost stopped. Let’s just say I’m glad that super suits can absorb Superman repellent

    @markschroeter9565 Před 2 lety +2

    My ranking and explanation. As I give this ranking I believe all the seasons are pretty fantastic. The show itself was great and I was a huge fan of it.
    10. Season 7
    Season 7 was a bit all over the place. Some pretty good story arcs and episodes, but it was lacking on flow. I will say that the season finale was pretty great. How Lex found out about Clark on his own, and the encounter with Clark in the fortress of solitude was an epic scene. If this was a ranking on season finales then season 7 finale would be in the top half of my ranking.
    9. Season 1
    This is where it all began, and I love the introduction to the characters, and their development, and the innocence of this season. Other than that it's just the "villain of the week" type episodes and not a major story arc. The story arc would be the characters and how they fit in. The series premiere was a great kickoff to the show, and did well enough for me to be hooked right from the beginning.
    8. Season 4
    This was another season that had a pretty amazing season finale, and would be top half similarly to season 7. Unfortunately for this season, it was the season finale that prevented this ranking from going lower. The witch story arc was a bit weird. I wasn't a fan of the football angle with Clark. It was like the writers were trying to hold on to the high school theme that was prevalent in season 1 one last time. At least it felt that way for the first 10 episodes. I did like how Lana's character was developed outside of the witch story arc. I felt her relationship with Jason really helped develop her to be who she eventually became. This season Lana was grown up. That trip to Paris really matured her as she returned. Lois was great as she was introduced into the season. I wish this season could be ranked higher, but it's just a lot of episodes that really went nowhere to contribute to the season.
    7. Season 2
    This was a lot like season 1, but with a major story arc. I love that some major landmarks were highlighted in the season such as the Talon really coming into its own as a premier location for the show. The kowachi caves being a big one too. Clark beginning to learn who he is becomes a big moment in the show. As annoying as the Clark-Lana relationship was throughout the show, season 2 was their best chemistry moment, and I felt it was very authentic and natural on how it develops before it fell apart and got annoying quickly.
    6. Season 5
    Season 5 started with a bang and probably one of the best first half story arcs versus all first halves of the other seasons. Unfortunately after Jonathan died, the second half was less than promising. It could have been much higher on this list but stalled. I will say Reckoning was probably one of the greatest middle of the season type episodes of all episodes that reside in the middle of their own respective seasons. Reckoning could have been a season finale that's how good it was. I also loved how this was a transition season, moving away from meteor freaks to more galactic villains that we're used to seeing with Superman/Clark.
    5. Season 8
    The one thing I do love about season 8 is it gave Clark the opportunity to move on from his old life. I compare it to Lana in season 4. Lana really grew up in season 4. Clark really grew up in season 8. I also love how season 8 began the process of becoming 90% Metropolis, 10% Smallville. Seasons 1-4 was 90% Smallville, 10% Metropolis. Seasons 5-7 was 60% Smallville, 40% Metropolis. Season 8 was what a lot of fans were waiting for especially with Clark going into the daily planet. A lot of great episodes in this season. A big surprise and shocker in the end with the death of a main character. I also love the development of Clark and Lois that began in this season, and it didn't feel rushed, it felt natural, authentic, and flowed well. Really the only negative in this season was a pretty lame season finale. Not much of an epic ending between Doomsday and Superman. Even the brief Lana encounter at least brought closure to that whole Clark-Lana thing.
    4. Season 10
    Great way to end the series. Season 10 was pretty great in all levels. Good villain story, everything was put in place with an amazing series finale. I agree with the person in the video that Clark telling Lois on his own accord was one of the season's best moments. That is something that he hasn't really done with any of his friends before who all also knew his secret before he told them.
    3. Season 3
    I agree with the person on the video who said Lex and Lionel owned this season. It was pretty epic between those two, and really contributed to what Lex eventually becomes. I also loved how this season really showed the vulnerability of Clark in ways that we haven't seen before, and how he was trying to pick himself back up and move on from his transgressions. We can all relate to that. I thought Crisis was one of the best episodes of this season. It's up there with Reckoning (season 5) as one of the best middle of the season type episodes from other respective seasons. Just a lot of great character development and every character had to go through their own personal crucible. Not much negative to say about this season, and was the best of the high school seasons of Smallville.
    2. Season 6
    Season 6 is a lot like season 5 but the opposite. Season 6 had a lackluster first half, but it's second half was great. So great that it's number two overall for me. Justice League was awesome. I grew to love Oliver Queen's character which was introduced in this season. Solid season finale. I loved the episode Crimson when red-krypto Clark went all gangsta and burned everyone at Lex-Lana engagement party. One of Tom's best acting moments. Lana getting her first bread crumb to Clark's secret was a fun trail to follow. l so loved how it was this season, in particular the second half of this season, where Clark and Lex's relationship goes south and cements them hating each other from this time forth. This was also the season that Lex turns completely to the dark side and become the villain he would become.
    1. Season 9
    For me, it's the best season in Smallville. This was the season when Clark was officially ready to become Superman. Clark and Lois had amazing chemistry in this season. I love the enhanced effects which I believe was the best of all the seasons. This season really delved into the comics more than the other seasons. I also thought Zod was a pretty fantastic villain. I think he's tied for second with brainiac on how good he was as a villain in the entire series. Blue did a great job with his portrayal. I believe the season finale in season 9 was the best of all the season finales of Smallville. Watchtower was a very cool development. I love the absolute Justice League story arc. I also loved Oliver Queen's development in this season. Season 9 was to the second half of the whole series what season 3 was to the first half of the series. Very dark where crucibles had to be overcome by all characters. The difference is this season had more of an epic ending than season 3 in my opinion. With the exception of maybe a couple lame episodes (which all seasons have, some more than others), there is nothing negative I could really say about this season.
    I know not everybody's going to agree with my order, and there's not an order that's really bad because all the seasons were great.

    What are you talking about? Season 4 was one of the best seasons of smallville. Nothing sucked about that season. One thing about season four, you find out that Lona's ancestor never got her revenge. Because Jason's dad is still alive. And you find that out in season 7. Her ancestors swore to kill all the Teagues.

    Durban my dude great list...Let me start off by saying as before, I don't think there is any bad season of Smallville so it was very very hard to do this..but here we go.
    #1. Season 10 will always take my top spot. Lois and Clark together. The 200th episode is my #2 episode of the entire series. The return of dark Lionel. Johnathan Kent returns not just as "a" holy spirit but the episode Kent is a performance no one talks about. In the mirror world he is jaded and hopeless just taking out all his frustrations on Clark. Clark being the hope and light this season was able to give him a sense of hope and called him son just as he was pulled back into his own world. The return of Lex Luthor both the season premiere of a imperfect clone to the finale as the real deal. Oliver outing himself as Green Arrow and giving that epic speech in his interview. The return of Zod in Dominion...a smaller scale wrath of Khan and Zod thirst for vengeance was his undoing and leaves him stranded there. As Snoke once said " darkness rises and the light to meet it" Clark is that light against Darksied and light will always win. A Destiny fullfilled! I love everything about the finale personally. A that John Williams score to end the show was icing on a ten year cooked cake!
    #2. Season 9- Epic in size and scale. Matrix fans rejoice, another savior figure in black. Callum Blue did a great job at Zod. I liked his intensity and got more intense as the season progresses. Absolute Justice, Id say, deserves its own video. From the ground up they built this world. Detail by detail, set design was incredible. Introduced more heros and checkmate and was the first episode to drop that "apocalypse" is coming.
    That season finale was fan-freaking- tastic and with a final fight that is one if the best of the series.
    Now from here on out its hard lol
    #3. Season 5- For shows that start in highschool usually the first one out starts a decline. Not for this awesome show. Always striding forward in momentum. Buffy fans rejoice James Marters as Brainiac was a great physical and mental villian. The 100th episode was a heartbreaking work of art, but it great that it had ramifications all the way through to season 10. The first coming of Zod and Lex being possessed and even more evil was a treat. As a Dukes of Hazard fan I did love the return on Tom Wompat...just them good ol boys driving around.
    #4 Season 2- Housing my favorite episode Rosetta and "my" Superman Christopher Reeve, elevates this season of a show hitting a stride in only its second season out. The character of Ryan was a heartbreaking loss. The caves introduced. The episode Lineage is basically the Pilot part 2 and fleshes out the rivalry between the Kents and the Luthor s which becomes a generational battle in the future with Lex vs Superman. Pete finding out the truth of his best friend and the beginning burden of having to hold that secret. Finale Exodus and the introduction of Jor El and the start of the back and forth of a different father all the way to the shows Finale.
    #5 Season 6- Super hero overload in the best sense of the word!. Green Arrow introduced ✔. Returning of Aquaman Impulse and Cyborg ✔.
    The Martian Man hunter ✔. Slow motion bad ass hero walk with explosions behind you ✔. Bizzaro as a nemesis awesome.
    #6 Season 3- An ambitious 2 part season opener..the revelation that Clark's parents were chosen is pretty awesome. Memoria is is Top 5 episode of the series for sure.
    #7 Season 8- Losing Lex Lionel and for the most part Lana and its shows creators the new showrunners transitioned perfectly. Daily Planet Clark and the red blue blur. The Jekyll and Hyde Doomsday was smart. Tess Mercer( future Luthor) comes to power. The Legion introduced. The tragic death of Jimmy. Oliver Queen as a main stay and getting his island backstory. Strong season.
    # 8. Season 1 the one that started it all. Opening with one of my favorite pilot episodes of any show on television. Season finale Vortex with 3 twisters into one and Clark jumping into it gave us the first of many cliffhanger summer anxiety attacks. Emerging powers.. meteor freaks and the Hourglass giving us glimpse into the future.
    #9. Season 7 Bring on Supergirl. After years of being mentored..he gets to do the mentoring. The Veritas Quest. The Traveller. The return of Brainiac.
    Descent into darkness.
    #10 Season 4- Now just because its last does in no way make it bad to me. The Fortress Quest. The introduction of Lois Lane. Season opener Crusade that we see Clark/ Kal El fly. Personal nostalgia for the senior year of High School. Finishing with a Top 5 season finale in Commencement.
    This truly was hard but really after my top 2 spots the rest are all tied in 3rd place! If you made it this far thanks for reading my thoughts and God Bless!

    I have become convinced that Lex from the beginning was already fully a villain not worse than his father but still a villain. First watch through I was team Lex all the way and was like he's a hero who fell. And I was saying Clark had failed Lex. Then I said what if what Lex was saying the whole time "Clark I've done things that if you knew them we wouldn't be friends" we're true. Then I rewatched the whole series and decided to try to take everything Lex said and did and give him the worst motivation for saying and doing them. And this showed me he is a full grown man from the beginning. And his story line is not so much a character development as it is a character reveal.

    Regarding the episode order, I agree with Durban with one big exception: Ep 4. I would move Ep 4 into the #2 spot -- that's how much I love the Search For The Stones! I especially love the way poor Lex keeps getting stones IN HIS HANDS, only to lose them every time. The stones also represent the transition from Clark the Smallville hometown boy to Clark in the bigger world, with bigger stakes and with the Fortress.

    Every Smallville season. My joint personal favourites are seasons four and six and my least favourite was season eight, but tbh I liked every season of this great show as it was so consistent and awesome and Clark Kent's journey in Smallville was nothing short of spectacular to watch imo after seeing every he went through before he took to the skies, though I agree some episodes and seasons were better than others but overall I loved every second of this brilliant show thanks to its awesome cast and crew who did a fantastic job and why it lasted for ten seasons, will we ever see anything like this again? Who knows but I'm happy that this show exists and I love it for what it is and what it did and I wouldn't change anything about it. For me Smallville started off good with season one, two and three, got better with season four, five, six and seven, went down a little bit with season eight then picked up again a little bit with seasons nine and ten, but in all honesty, every season was good imo. 🔴🔵👍🏻
