Hi MD! I discovered you channel two weeks ago purely by chance, and now I am addicted! You are the only CZcamsr for whom I have the bell turned on, I have watched more than 40 of your videos already!
Something that would be really cool and that I think you haven’t done before is a tank with only carpeting plants (like Montecarlo and small Crypt), bear wood and loads of stem plants on the back. I would love to see how the stem plants develop over the course of the several months!

He doesn't really do lots of months. Usually weeks is a better way of looking at the tank's.
Red and green should never be seen. Except on the back of an Irish queen.
He usually keeps an aquascape around 5-6 months before dismantling it and making something new.

The tank style is unique and really cool! It reminds me of the dutch style but replicating a garden you would have in your yard! I really do agree with your decision to remove the fern!

I really like that. Very different, and something thats easy to replicate if you lack the artistic flair for aquascaping.
That tank is currently on my shortlist as ive decided to get back into the hobby after a 20 year break, so an unbiased review is rather handy.

I check the link and that web side does not provide prices, not even in their catalogue. An average 20L cube costs around 60 alone€, this kit is most likely around 120€.

Just watched a few videos of other people's Tank setups and by far MD Tanks are some of the absolute BEST on CZcams. I'm not trying to hate on other people I'm just saying what you do is done very very well, from the Aquascaping to your set up of your studios and I've watched since the days of being in the Shed; you have always had a visually pleasing setup all-around and you also make sure the fish love their tanks.

I really love the terraced tank! The terraces look so clean and structural, while the plants do a great job of softening up the whole look. Good choice of fish as well! Been seeing peeks of the tank for a bit now, and have been anxious to see it set up, so thank you! Blue Dragon Betta is gorgeous, I agree!
Garden bed is a good word for this setup. I think a stepping stone path will ding up the stairs with framing plants around them would've really made the steps pop

I've been waiting all week for this video to land!!! It's looking incredible, and this is my next tank. It's great to see just how well put together this package is, and I can't wait to be able to scape my own one.
I already have my tropica substrate (I'm guessing this is pretty similar to the nutri base) and my bag of pond compost. I have plenty of plants I can trim, so all I need is a nice bit of wood and even more plants......oh, and the tank of course

Looks great! Regarding blue plants in the aquarium - I've actually had some recent success growing peacock selaginella (uncinata) partially submerged. As long as a decent amount of the plant is still in air & soil, it seems pretty willing to push out large fronds dipping underwater that still retain the blue iridescence, which looks absolutely spectacular under tank lights
My least favorite thing about your channel is when you introduce great products that I can't buy in America! Like the Columbo stuff! Grrr. 😂 All in good fun. Your channel is still the best aquascaping channel out there!
I was think that in the old studio MD had so many rams and ram dedicated tanks dotted all other. Now he has 62 betta fish in 5 different tanks! I kind of miss the rams but bettas’ colors are so vibrant and unique that I think they fully compensate!
Bettas are not exactly “ordinary”. They are from Malaysia and some of the rarest varieties have extremely beautiful, vibrant color, like the blue dragon in this video.
i am from the netherlands and work in a pet shop with lots of superfish aquariums. since i started watching you're video's i got more excited with aquascaping. i started a 260liter aquascape at my work and it turns out pretty good. still enjoy you're video's keep it going!
Hi MD. I know you like Nutri Base when setting up a new scape. But it is not available in most parts of the world…..and you have followers all over the world. As a suggestion, when you mention products that may not be readily available in other parts of the world could you mention alternatives or other options so we can still learn from your experiences. For instance, it wasn’t that long ago you used to place aquasoil in media bags and then cap with a substrate. For the newbies on your channel maybe mention that option as an alternative next time you use Nutri Base.
Surface agitation is key in healthy aquariums, and your little water bottle hack is brilliant!
Hi MD, love your channel and learned a lot in last few months. Who said old "dogs" cant learn new tricks? LOL :) This is going to sound crazy but I've been keeping fish since late 60's - yes "when trees were toller". I just thought ok been there done that, right, not so quick I guess: I bred most freshwater common fish before I turned 15, then college, then US travel and restarted the hobby from very 1st salt tanks (when it was unheard of still) in early 80's, then salt water hobbiests invented wet and dry trikle system and I used it succesfully on large plexy tanks full of anykind of fish and no water changes ever. I thought what else do I need? Well from Fish Shop Matt's and my prespective that would be probably the top of the fish keepers mountain?
Then come the Nanos, Bookshelf tanks and industry totally gets away from anything but glass tanks preferably rimless of cource. Dreams and priorities change (not for everyone of cource) but the new old is now growing plants and creating natural aquascapes - todays mainstream in our hobby. I'm like the most experienced infant obsorbing things like a sponge from your videos - ha ha ha. Anyway, keep up the most professional, highest quality, most informatively done video clips on youtube, guys, plus sounds like you have become close friends and it's fun to watch. 1 guy knows all about the fish and the other knows how to setup the greatest looking natural tanks ! Just 1 comment though: we seem to get a better and wider variety of fish y'all but maybe bc of our much bigger metropoliten area of LA/OC, CA, IDK? Cheers, love ya guys, Von

Hey MD, just a thought…if you want to weigh down your wood with a flat base instead of using rocks underneath you could just use slate it’s a good alternative if you still want the wood to sit flat.
It also works on-top of pvc pipes to stop them floating. I’ve used it to make pleco hideouts and they always use them. I’ve never had issues using it.

There’s definitely a market for super fish in the US, tanks are generally quite expensive here. There are cheaper options but I’ve had way too many fail. Most if not all of the cheaper options have rims on them, and I think we all have similar feelings on rimmed tanks
Love the content man. You helped me set up my first tank and I couldn't be more excited about it. I only bought 10 plants to start to budget but I plan on replanting some trimmings to get the lushness you get in yours.
I agree Superfish is great. Affordable and easy to use. About every pet/aquarium store in The Netherlands sells this brand and if you need something on the go, there is always a shop nearby to get what you need.
But I did replace the medium in the internal filter of my Start 50 with crystal biological medium since they always come with active carbon in them. And it's nice they come with tools, liquid bacteria and a packet of quality dry fish food.

There are some buces that are almost blue. Interesting to see how this tank develops without co2. I guess they are mostly easy plants but even rotala grows way smaller leaf size without co2

I read cement bricks may have a PH of 9-10. The impact of that source of alkaline long term in your tank will be really helpful to know. The 8 day presoak was a smart.
I hope you can find the time to provide a PH update in a say a couple of months when things have settled.

I have always wanted to make a terraced tank to look like the terraced rice paddies! Use some small leafed ground cover plant like monte carlo or cuba, some anubias between the rocks of the terrace, and have a bunch of cherry shrimp and a single betta in there. This is a bit different, but interesting to see how you made the terraces.
I set up my first tank a few days ago and I love it so much! Your videos helped me a lot, scaping the tank myself was as enjoyable as watching you do it. Can't wait to see how the plants change in a few months! I'm planning to get blue neocaradinas after the cycle is done : )

There are blue and purple "plants" in the saltwater world. Check out blue hypnea. Technically it's a macro algae not a plant but some people have marine planted tanks with all kinds of wild stuff like that. I know saltwater aquariums aren't exactly in your wheelhouse but they are still interesting to look into.

MD Fish Tanks, here is my fantasy 4’ tank. Light colored natural sand; 3 gnarly rootstocks with trunks sticking up out of water about 2 to 3cm; semi-transparent wavy strappy plants that look like kelp moving with the current; the most outrageous and colorful underwater plantscape that you’ve ever done, that exaggerates depth and dimension; 3 levels of interesting fish and shrimp; an asymmetrical design. I want to be visually intoxicated by this tank!

I actually did something similar when I first got into aquatics for a shrimp tank just using dwarf hair grass and it worked perfectly

LOVE this idea. While naturalistic setups are my fave still, I can'r help but want to make an english garden diorama with bricks like this. Trying to think of aquatic plants that I could disguise as well-manicured bushes

Wish we were nearer to taunton. Popped into Maidenhead aquatics Taunton last week whilst on holiday. We live in Wiltshire and the nearest Maidenhead is in Wilton. Really badly run shop and the staff clearly are not interested. It makes a difference having a manager and staff that have the passion in the hobby.
