@Ssamuel Vf This is what i mean. We are not saved based on what we do. however if we love him we will keep his commands. A natural reaction for somebody who has layed down their life for you and is the God of the universe is to listen to what he says.

Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered his son Isaac upon the altar?
      22
You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by the works.
      23
Thus the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called “the friend of God.”
      24
See how a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.
      25
And in the same way, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she welcomed the messengers and sent them out by a different route?

As a Jewish believer in Jesus, I am more than surprised since I have previously agreed with just about everything Ben has said. His take on the difference between Christianity and Judaism demonstrates at best that he is significantly uninformed on this matter. A stark contrast to how informed he is otherwise. Yes, we must trust and believe in Jesus for our salvation, but if this is all there is, then how shallow and self serving this would be. But, the Good News for Ben and the rest of us is, Christianity is about so much more! This is based on the eye witnessed and documented examples that Jesus taught and lived out. As Jesus confirmed, the second greatest commandment is to love our neighbor as ourselves. What does this look like? As God and man, Jesus perfectly demonstrated this for us as He lived out His sacrificial mission while considering and caring about the interests of others before His own. Unlike all of us, everything Jesus did was for the sake of others and was motivated by His pure love. Why? Because God is love (1 John 4:7-21). As believers in Christ / Messiah, we are called to live a life worthy of the calling we have received (Ephesians 4:1-3). Jesus was (and still is) the way, the truth and the life who was also the Master at demonstrating what a life of love, service, and purpose should look like. He equipped those who trust in Him with the Fruit of the Spirit so we can bless others on God's terms and not our own. As believers in Christ, we are called to live out His will not only in our lives, but also in ways that He wants to use us to bless others. Ben covered the first greatest commandment, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind." Since Jesus immediately followed up with confirming the second greatest commandment because of how important it is to Him and for us to live out, I hope Ben will look into, consider and become informed about the other parts of what Messiah Jesus was and still is all about. As was and is the case for me and all of humanity, if Ben will one day choose to admit he could be wrong and in need of God's forgiveness, then pray and ask God to reveal the truth to him, Ben will then be ready to begin his worthy journey. But, only if he does so with an open heart and mind, as free of other agendas as possible. In this case and as Ben stops leaning on his own understanding so he can receive God's (Proverbs 3:5,6), it will be impossible for this journey to not change his heart and life for the better and forever.

Not ONE Palestinian has lifted a gun to an Israeli, yet Israel still murders them with Christians blessing them, with Christians telling them that they support them. Support the Jews? Who believe that Christians are Pagans and Idol Worshippers and who are going to Hell? That Muslims will go to heaven but Christians are ALL going to hell? You support them? We are saved by grace through FAITH and not by works lest you should boast. But, AFTER we are saved and in the sanctification process of salvation, "FAITH without works is DEAD".
So SALVATION is by grace through faith. The EVIDENCE of having been saved is a change in behaviours or works. And SANCTIFICATION is the ongoing process of becoming more Christ like and enduring to the end.

If at the point of salvation you don't want to live a better life then you don't understand what you're being offered salvation from. Sinful actions are infused with death and destruction, so living in them is like a nearly drowned person whose been fished out of a stormy sea and into a dry boat going back for a quick swim.

James 2:26 RSV • For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so faith apart from works is dead. •

  • @loppyhandford

No Christianity requires acts to evidence the faith and willingness to follow the commandments. Without a desire to work with God to follow the Commandments we wouldn’t be sorry for breaking them. If we don’t have a desire to try to follow the commandments then we wouldn’t be repentant for sins; without repentance there is no forgiveness and therefore no salvation.
Justification: God considers you sinless and saved when you accept the truth and agree to follow Him
Sanctification: we work with God (God gives us power) to try to keep the 10 Commandments and over time our character improves

I think Ben gets it more or less right here. When Jesus taught he focused on faith and taught that a transformed life (also known as salvation) would flow from a genuine faith. The good works are a gift from God to humans in Christianity. God awards salvation from evil to those who have faith. In Judaism the good works are a gift from humans to God. They are the source of the relationship rather than the outcome of it.

@@wip3z531 Yes, but the covenant as laid out in the New Testament in some ways over-writes the covenant with Israel in the Old Testament. This is evidenced by Peter being offered the sheet full of unclean animals and being instructed to "kill and eat." The new Testament sets out a new rule set that includes gentiles and doesn't require the careful following of every letter of the Old Testament law as Paul demonstrates when he is more lax with certain aspects of the law while ministering to Greeks and as Jesus demonstrates when he regularly disregards strict practice of the formal law while holding an even higher moral standard for interpersonal relationships and internal dialogue. In the new Testament faith in Christ in central and good works flow naturally from that faith without the rigid structure that was previously required.
I think part of what creates the divide is that some of the earliest books of the Old Testament were the people of Israel's civil law. They were the legal standard required for a nation to operate somewhat functionally without a formal government. In the new Testament they were all living under Roman civil law, so while many of the principles still applied they didn't need the extensive codification and could start living based on principles rather than Biblical litigation.

  • @americanpatriot7247

Yes, that is the difference between them..... Christianity is faith based. Judaism is works based. With Christianity, when you have accepted Jesus and have faith, the natural outflowing of the faith and love for God/Jesus is the natural desire to help others, to do as Jesus speaks about in the bible for others. So.... both do good things for others, but one pours out from their acceptance & faith of the Lord, the other is definite decisions to do things in order to be accepted by the Lord in their belief.
