  • A brief promo for the short-lived drama that premiered in September 1969 and featured a pretty amazing cast: George Hamilton, Lana Turner, Ralph Bellamy, Jan-Michael Vincent, Kevin McCarthy, Rossano Brazzi, Diana Muldaur, Clu Gulager, Louise Sorel, Louis Hayward, Katherine Cannon and Natalie Schafer.

I watched this when it ran originally in 1969. It was also rerun in the Summer of 1970 on ABC. It was released as a TV movie (edited down considerably) as "The Last Of The Powerseekers". I saw it on late night TV years ago and could'nt believe it. I'd even settle for a copy of that, but no one seems to have it. It was made for TV. Such a Glorious Cast.

Do you know when the last of the powerseekers first aired? not the series, the re-edited movie

@@radrobd123 It was released in 1971 (I looked it up). I first saw it in the early 80s. It was late at night and I had come home from work, and put the TV on for background. Then, I heard the theme (The same one used in the series), and I immediately ran to the TV. I looked in my local guide and it WAS listed. I was in shock. I watched it and there it was (now reissued as a made for TV movie rebranded "The Last of The Powerseekers".I have looked and researched and can't find much about it. There are some photos on ebay under "The Survivors" and "The Last of the Powerseekers". The edited movie starts out with George Hamilton and Diana Muldaur riding in their car with no brakes.(That was the last original episode start). But, I'd pay to have a copy of that made for TV movie. Somewhere, in some TV station it's laying around and probably gets aired every so often. It was edited down to an hour and a half from those 15 episodes. Amazing.

Just by way of history, this show aired in the U.K. against Hawaii 5-0. It didn't stand a chance, and no one I talked to at school had ever seen it. I just loved the theme music though... where is it these days.!!?

If this show came out a decade later or so, it probably would’ve been as big as Dallas and Dynasty. I loved Lana Turner in Falcon Crest!

Gawdd, this is so cheesy, I lovvvve it!! There's less cheese than in the whole state of Wisconsin!! Seriously, though about The Survivors, Lana Turner wrote in her 1982 biography (I forget the title) after seeing her and Harold Robbins holding hands at a publicity event for The Survivors that she forgot that he also authored Where Love Has Gone. The roman-a-clef about the 1957 murder of her then lover Johnny Stompanato by her daughter Cheryl Crane.

Does anyone know how to get hold of the actual Theme Music to HR' The Survivors? It was fabulous, and all I can find is the Italian posting of it, which is really poor quality, though I'm grateful to hear it after so many years. Can anyone help?! 😎

  • @stevesybesma

It appears that an archive in LA maintained by UCLA has the surviving video copies of the show...but for some reason they feel they cannot release it and seem unwilling to work with the rights-holder on this.
    Site is: cinema.library.ucla.edu
You will find it there as I have.
I can't travel to LA to that libary to view it, but I'm not even certain these people are not so stingy they won't even allow it to be viewed.
Which brings the question...what the heck they keeping it for if they won't digitize it? Waiting until it turns to powder?
If I were able to, I'd have a pocket recorder at the very least to remind me of what the tune sounded like.

Sounds ridiculous, the theme music alone is worth the price of admission!

Yes, I looked at their site. They have the 16mm film of it and a VCR video of each episode. But you are right. What if we'd get there and they would'nt let us view them. I remember the "Theme" so well. The entire score was so well done. From what I've read (and heard), the show was quite expensive to produce, plus actor salaries, and wardrobe costs. The numbers weren't what they expected (viewer wise). But I remember it was quite a production with a great storyline. But for 1969 it was expensive for ABC. ABC ran it again in 1970 as a "summer rerun" which was common back then. Too bad VCRs weren't around. This will never be released. Hardly anyone remembers it. Sad.

Thanks for the effort. The Michel Colombier theme was for the later television series (BBC I think) of the same name. I am, of course, referring to the 1969 television show staring Lana Turner, Ralph Bellamy, George Hamilton, and Kevin McCarthy. Loved the theme song. Let's get back out there an see what we can come up with. Thanks!
