Too often the world does not know about this introspective aspect of African music and it's a sad commentary on our failure to inform ourselves of the beauty which comes from the soul. Such is the case with this timeless music.
Interesting comment about the history of the kora - sadly there seems to be nothing on Wikipedia about the origins of this magical instrument. How sad that this important part of world history seems to be missing from our written record?
Kamran: I found the history of Kora in CZcams. In all of Africa each village has several or one historian. For many, it is the elders who know everybody and for others there is a lineage of historians. That is you inherit the knowledge and history of the community by your father and grands. Those historians did not only record the history of their community, their records history of all rulers for thousand of years. You might wonder why I am telling you this. The instrument called Kora was only used by historians to tell history and stories to strengthen their story. The instrument as we know it today was created and mastered a thousand year ago, and his story is being told by his grand grand grand... son. There are more than 500 musical instruments in Africa originating in Africa. You will find few of them by studying music of each African country.
Kora is far from the original harp, Kora is only 700 years old. The original harps were most likely Egyptian as far as we can tell. IN fact Kora isn't even the oldest Mandinka instrument. Stan Bell
I was in Burkina Faso this year in March. My Soul is deeply deeply touched .l never want live without this beautiful energy anymore.Africa is Love.Dignity.Grace.Force. ♥️🙏🏾
today, the kora takes me to that precious, still, vast-ness deep within my body. somedays the mbira dzavadzimu is the portal, sometimes a crystal bowl. somedays the breath of my horse,,, often my own tears are the alchemy .... what miracles abound in creation. !

When I was a baby girl, my dad- an American guitarist- introduced this instrument from my mom's native Sénégal (and the ancient Mali empire spreading from Séné-Gambia to Mali and surrounding areas) ...I agree as others have noted here, it's the most entrancing and divine sound, that soothes the heart, mind and soul...It feels like being rocked in the most pure loving arms (and Thank you for keeping ads at a bare minimum to allow more profound meditation, this is similar to a playlist I've compiled elsewhere...minus the constant interruptions!!)✨🙏💚🌈🌍✌✨

Beautiful music. I used this while home office during this unlucky Covid-19 strike around. I loved this image of the man prayng, meditating as I do, with eyes wide open. thanks and big hug from Colombia. Thanks for sharing
It's funny because the image of the handsome man (I couldn't help but notice...) didn't invoke a praying man to me, even though his hands seem to be clasped in prayer. All I saw was a man relaxing and deep in his mind. Now I'm wondering if he was praying or not. Regardless, the music is great.
Music is music. If you enjoy it, play it. Worrying about who isn’t listening to it defiles it. Negativity defiles it. You cannot make folks listen to it. Take a personal journey.
Modern music like soul, like rap, even and the bluse and artmusic jazz has the roots in mother africa.
I imagine sitting in the company of seasoned kora players in an ancient kingdom in Africa and they play beautiful kora music as the sun casts long shadows across the land. Both I and the Sun continue on in our individual journey, lulled, mersmerised - the Sun on its way to sundown after completing perhaps its millionth trek across the African sky; and I slip quietly into the deep, mysterious abyss of my mind, where the dreamer and the poet meet eternally entwined. Listening to this takes me right back there as if it was yesterday and this crazy reality of a damaged world that thrives on selfishness and greed is only a bad dream.😥
The world needs to see that Africa is a place that exists. She is an entire continent, spanning nations, biomes, languages, religions, and cultural boundaries. Her communities and her peoples - no less fantastic, passionate, ingenious, or inspiring than any others around the globe - have shaped the world we all live in since the dawn of human history in ways that no one else ever could.
