I'm so glad they showed her smelling an orange, because otherwise we would have absolutely no idea how smelling works.
lol
LMAO 😂😂
"...It's all about sensitivity."
Yeah, I still don't know how Wolverines smell differently compared to humans.
I think they were getting at measuring distance with smell
Imagine if in order for you to smell an orange you would need a hundred individual molecules for your nose to successfully detect it and you'd need to be a meter away from that orange in order to do so.
By comparison, a Wolverine can detect that same orange needing only one single molecule, and can be a thousand meters away.
That is how a Wolverine do.
Right?! Where the hell was the end of that comparison? Way to set up a distraction from the content and then never resolve it!
"They smell *better*" /case
i bet jasper is sensitive in bed.
When I'm stoned my nose is just as good as this wolverine's. I'll find a pizza place from miles away.
Same ! I can smell it through the just eat app
yamahuggers lol 😂
yamahuggers hey pizza man, good smell power, hahaha
That is the funniest comment I've heard all day
Remarkable. I'd like to test your response to mountain dew
the girl used the shovel to move the meat into the hole, then used the same shovel to re fill the hole with snow. therefor transferring the meats smell particles into the hole with the meat. a squirrel couldve found it for petes sakes
I know right this experiment is was poorly designed but d o you think they would purposely cause an avalanche to find food
Exactly what I was thinking. Not to mention she set the meat hunk right on the snow next to the hole she was digging and just left that snow there with all the scent on it. I have no doubt that Wolverines have an incredible sense of smell, but this demonstration was very weak.
It doesn't matter, the fact that those animals survivor during these conditions is a prove in itself. They have to be able to smell meet deep beneath the snow to survive.
toughest animal ive ever come across ,what animal stands in front of a bear or wolf and say i think i can take you on and steal your food fearless
Vince Carter I don't think squirrels eat meat.
Hugh Jackman's only mistake is he's damn tall for the Wolverine role.
So, what was the point of the part with the orange?
+Nicctos Talking about smell receptors in the brain and sensitivity , how those receptors are affected in winter.
+jijo alex Yah, but the orange was not really needed for that explanation to go through, it seemed like it would be much more integral to the understanding of difference between our noses, and the wolverine's, which they didn't even explain more than just mentioning theirs is more sensitive.
had to do it to write off their lunch expense
odor detectors in nose allow us to detect 1000s if smells, most animals are that way, but the wolverine is far beyond that, it detects the tiniest of smells, far down in the snowww
Oranges are delicious
But where are the Adamantium claws? :-D
I don't know...
Trust me. Its there. They just skipped to mention because they will talk about it in the next episode.
Seriously wolverine in the comics etc should be called honey badger! they are hard as nuts!
DonDuracell Smh i swear i scrolled down to post the exact same thing, then i saw this was the top comment.😂😒
Doesn't need em. Wolverines beat up bears and wolf packs. What else is there?
What a beautiful animal!
beautiful creature
TeagueSurf Jasper'svgot some nice eyes
Yeah, but the wolverine is cool too.
Wolverine. Real survivor. Respect !
I suppose Marvel was correct about Wolverine's superior sense of smell. But the animal is also truly amazing. :)
Logan is small in height in comics (5'2-5'4), and Wolverines are known to fight bigger opponents (hence Logan's fight opponent in comics--The HULK).
Paul Ramos
And his attitude, and the through-obstacles-not-around-them manner... Wolverines are pretty much the only animals on the continent that will look at a grizzly bear standing over a carcass and think, "Yeah, you look like a puss; I could take you. You gonna eat that? I'll fight ya for it!" They don't go around mountains, they just go up and over~ XD When you think about Logan's character, his nature, and the nature and personality of a wolverine, they really are shockingly similar. Just look at how he treats the younger mutants; rough, yet affectionate. Wolverines are the same way: they play rough, but even the fathers are good with the kits.
+Alexis Grunden This is one great feedback!.. A lot of trivial info!..
beautiful animal
that orange looked so ripe and fresh
I wanted to eat it
Perfect rescuers for search and rescue situations beautiful animals
I love Jasper. He's a star!!
the Devil Bear is awesome ^^
"Buries the meat deep in the snow"
Digs like half a foot.
It's sounds the same as Hugh Jackman when he's playing wolverine lol growling and snarling.
They are amazing animals.
so this is the real hugh jackman....i knew it that is something wrong with his human form..
animorphs
+Bo Huggabee I use to watch that show on Ion but they took it away or idk :/ it was dope
That's Not Me i didn't know there was a show, i thought they were just books
Bo Huggabee No haha there is actually a show, it's pretty old too if you look it up on YT you may find some episodes.
Hugh Jackman lacks a bushy tail!
Really fantastic animal!
funny thing is the marvel comics character wolverine hunted with a wolf pack as well on the ice and once was trapped under a glacier and ate the strips of his forearms to survive
self cannibalism.
Bo Huggabee Well i guess you could call it that but no other cannibal could regenerated their skin as quick as wolverine does
no it was wolverine it was during when he became feral and wild
It’s weird that he ate himself because he had regeneration. So therefor he could literally never die from starvation thus making himself eat his forearms completely stupid haha
I hope Marvel makes an X-men character named "Honey Badger".
Marvel almost named Wolverine Honey Badger but didn't.
They have now. She’s a younger clone of X-23 (who’s taken the mantle of Wolverine after Logan died, though he just came back), whom the later took in after a mission that involved a few clones who only had moments to live rebelled against their creators. They also got an actual wolverine, named Jonathan.
Wolverines are meaner than honey badgers.
Or a movie about wolverine and honey badger fighting
The honey badger plays for the Kansas city chiefs brah
I wonder how effective these would be in search and rescue
they'd probably be like super man....
i dont think it would be a good idea beacuse they are intepend animal meaning thay will do what they want to unlike dog.and they are very agrassive even after traned
Are you insane? Wolverines are very very very aggressive and will kill pretty much anything there is cases of people thinking they can tame these things only to have the animals kill them.
No Rescue service's uses Wolverine's (that would also be illegal) Jasper here is a very special case
🙃
start domesticating them
i also love thar hugh jackman had no idea that wolverines were real animals
Well the shovel she used to bury the fish, had fish on it, so the top layer of snow had fish on it..it’s not that surprising he was able to find it..it’s like getting poop on your toilet lid, and then flushing, and wondering why you can still smell poop lol.
This is the hugh Jackman!!! I thought He was an wolf. Then his brother is more amazing character.
I have seen that guy from brave wilderness
Yeah he is the only one who has a wolverine in captivity.
"I'm the best there is at what I do but what I do best isn't very nice."
Mustelids Are just so cool
what a beautiful dog
Stupid X-men Origins Wolverine movie had me thinking Wolverines were baby wolves.
I live in Estonia. When I lived in the countryside, then went one day, at three o'clock in the night, along the forest to urinate under pine and pine Wolverine fell down from my shoulders and slightly dented! I said, "Hello," he went on slowly wriggle through meadows and forests the higher pressure in the darkness. House lamp post lighted and I looked and saw a Wolverine very well. Approximately 102 to 104 cm long, 40-45 cm wide, and moved wriggle and head low.Head was darker color, beige top body was brighter and darker sides ...Wolverine who fell from the tree next to me was like 00:35 - the video of the specimens. Spine top of a lighter color. It was not a badger!
Was hoping for a video about a superhero.
Was not disappointed.
"Deep in the snow"...lol
Wolverines can sniff meat/food 20 feet under the snow , she dig a whole like 2 feet deep .
That wasn’t even a challenge.
True but it’s still pretty impressive to even be able to smell it at all🤷🏽♂️
Amazing animals!
I wouldn't be surprised to find the cause of avalanches is a wolverine bouncing up & down & making a racket.......animals & their intelligence, abilities, guile & cunning are amazing.
I hate is when I search up wolverine, it shows up as a marvel superhero with claws. I wish that wasn't the case.
That was a lot of post production sound effects on cutting that orange.
mother nature doesn't give us a lot of margin for error...
i look forward for this
You're not alone :)
I will always wonder if I saw a wolverine in Leadville, Colorado a few years ago. It was either a small-looking bear or an extremely rare wolverine sighting. Unfortunately it was around midnight, so what I saw was very silhouette-like. The profile brought the wolverine to mind, but the probability factor sways me to believe it was a young black bear. Wish I knew for sure.
It is Jasper :) :) :) We love you Jasper :) He almost looks like a bear
Anybody else remembering the scent episode of Magic School Bus here?
is that steve from wolverine coyote's last video?
Fu Chu yeah it is
Techie ID yea he Is, hes pretty popular
Techie ID yep sir
Techie ID yes
No he's jasper
so thats where logan got his strong sense of smell from
Gulo gulo - wonderful animal!
It's like a cross between a bear and a dog.
She walked to and from the hole, carrying the meat to the hole and carrying a meat scented Shovel,Gloves and wearing meat scented Boots from the hole. I would think that would make this “Test” a no brainer where meat would be found for most scavenger/carnivores.
Beast
that is fascinating
Can you believe a wolverine is documented to have murdered a polar bear?
No wonder the wolves don’t seem to want anything to do with it. Lol
That’s Steve krochel. He was on Coyote Petersons ( brave wilderness) video
Nature's most perfect carnivore, pound for pound.
THAT'S, not
deep pour
snow, dirt
water snow
again then
the Wolverine
hide's, the
other half
you have
him leashed
up what;
kind of
government people
are you?
I did not know this was an animal. I thought Wolverine was just some bad ass made up name for the mutant.
The meat should have been placed in a bowl, not on the bare snow. Then transferred into the hole with your hands, not the shovel you use to bury the meat. The whole area was tainted by the smell.
It made the test a lot easier for the critter I think.
''Finds long dead person''... Awkward
thats nuts
A tamed Wolverine!... Logan would not like that...
My sense of smell is equal like this majestic King of the North's! I can find a Pig Roast with potato and barbecue sauce at for miles away!
i search for wolverine after watching Brave Wilderness's video and Steve is everywhere!
Great
Think it's time we trained some bomb sniffing wolverines to roam the airports.
The little skit with the orange was completely unnecessary. We all know what it means to smell something. They could have just shown the diagram with the smell receptors and nothing would have changed.
1:09 DEEP in the snow, so 12 inches.... can we get a man in here to dig??
that's they guy from brave wildernes :D
Legau o wolverine isto é incrível
Throws two shovel fulls of snow on bait and says it's buried deep in the snow to emulate an avalanche 🤨🧐
Am i the only one who thought wolverines were a wolf species?
yes
Yeah but you had that hunk of meat laying on the snow right next to the hole, the whole place was probably filthy with meat smell to a wolverine
I want one
Oh look, it’s Steve!
Hello BBC Earth, wonderful work. Dear Hellen, next time use different tools for digging and food placement, also don't put it on the snow ;)
What kind of scientists are these ? I like this type of science
Where are it's claws?
Same name as Wolverine From Xmen
He do be looking cute though
LOGAN ( 2017)
Wait.....didn't brave wilderness, coyote Peterson, also work with this guy?!
Where can I get one?
anybody else find out that it's the same wolverine brave wilderness had in his video?
1:31 is just so satisfying.
logan ?
Trained Wolverine don't see that every day
Scent Molecules.... get your science right. When you smell something it's tiny particles of that thing in the air.
+J Brook This channel has a lot of, ummm, "paraphrasing" of actual science.
+J Brook actually i've seen this term used in articles: "Indeed, Gardiner explained, recent studies have shown that concentrations of scent molecules could easily mislead." source: esciencenews.com/articles/2010/06/10/sharks.can.really.sniff.out.their.prey.and.how.they.do.it
seems quite rational term, not all molecules can be detected via smell and those are can be said to have a "scent" thus scent or scented molecules...
+J Brook
It means the same thing. They even said in the video at 2:50 that it's what's in the air going past. Just calm down.
They had a Wolverine friend and didn't name it Logan????
It's similar to a honey badger.
Steve
interesting!
*BBC director*
How are we gonna get a good shot of avalanche?
Employee: I dont know
Employee 2: I got this
*Walkes near the snowy mountain*
Employee 2: AHHHHHLOOOOOLOOOOLOOOOLOOOOLOOOOLOOOOLOOOOLOOOO AHHHHHHHHLOOOOOOLOOOOOOLOOOOOOLOOOOOLOOOOLOOOOOOOOO
Director: Good work, I'll say some good things at your funeral...
Cool we have a playstation in our nose 2:19
The most Amazing part for me is that how could he defrost the meat to allow him to eat it. It's like a piece of stone when it's frozen.
Wolverines regularly eat frozen meat.
Who do you guys think would win a pit bull or a wolverine? I understand wolverines can be very strong creatures but knowing how pit bulls just don't stop biting i'm not that sure.
Is that deep in the snow?
why's does the wolverine have a leach?
I wish the someone would take the time to measure the bite force of a wolverine, I would guess their bite strength gotta be stronger than that of Tasmanian devils and stronger than that of lions...
Um.. why is Hugh Jackman on a leash looking for meat in the snow
And I can’t even smell my fart ....
