  • Carrying on with Britain's defences, at the beginning of world war two. I visit a coastal battery in Lincoln, on the East coast of England. Freiston Shore was an emergency Coastal artillery, and a branch of the armed forces concerned with operating anti-ship artillery or fixed gun batteries in coastal fortifications. I check out what buildings are left, and tell you what the Germans had in mind for this area, if they had successfully invaded our country. Thanks for watching !!

Pop along to the `we`ll meet again` museum, which is a short walk from the battery. You can learn much more about Freiston Shore and its roll on our coastal defences.

Looks like this was done just after we checked it out again. We are based at the WWII Museum behind the Gun Line...just to add if I may..the Loop holes to rear of the Gun houses, these were to fire to the rear of the Battery as the land to the rear is flat and soft and if this part of the coast was to be invaded, German paratroopers would have landed and Battery attacked from the rear...The mentioned Crew Shelter was the Coastal Battery Command post..location was manned by Royal Artillery supported by Infantry, all Regular Troops.

Hi Lee. Thanks for the correct info. That makes more sense now. I called into the museum the day after. I may have spoken to you ! :-). I was told about the reason why that water tank was in the searchlight pillbox from an elderly gentleman at the museum ( i cant remember his name, his wife working in the cafe )I got some of my info from the documentary series ` The buildings that fought hitler ` The one thing that couldn't find was the 1940`s graffiti. Was i in the wrong building ( crew quarters ) ? Thanks for watching and commenting !

0:03 Nice video but I think you are in Lincolnshire not Lincoln. Freiston Shore is near Boston.
