  • The Battle of Patay, fought on 18 June 1429 during the Hundred Years' War, was the culmination of the Loire Campaign between the French and English in north-central France. In this engagement, the horsemen of the French vanguard inflicted heavy casualties on an English army; most of them sustained by the longbowmen as the English cavalry fled. In addition, all but one of the senior English commanders were captured. A victory often credited to Joan of Arc, she was in fact not present for the battle as she had remained with the main body of the French army. The vanguard at Patay was led by La Hire and Jean Poton de Xaintrailles.
The battle was a disastrous blow to English aspirations in France. For the French, it cemented the turn of fortune which had begun at Orléans and concluded a highly successful campaign. The latter was followed by a march to Reims which saw the Dauphin Charles be crowned King of France. The Hundred Years' War, however, would continue until 1453.

@Tibolt-hc1xk and yet english media choose to glance over them and only talk about crecy, poitier and agincourt and how these battles revolutionized medieval warfare forever (it didn't, it was the french's compagnie d'ordnance that did and to this day too) how the longbow was the new super weapons (it wasn't, the french only has slightly less of these stone age tech than the english, the actual new super weapons were gunpowder and it was the french that deployed them to great effect and hilariously outperformed the famous longbows)

@Tibolt-hc1xkyou seem to not quite understand english language. I know france have the most "recorded victories". I'm talking about the LENGTH of this video compared to other videos about english victories on this channel.

@Tibolt-hc1xkeeehhhh while I agree about artillery have little impacts for most of the war. the assumption that heavy cavalry need to be encased in armor to stand a chance against arrows is not in the right direction. horse armor were never common on the battlefiend even at the peak of horse plate armor development (well after the hundred years war) even rich riders rarely equip their horses with full harness for field use. because heavy cavalry's true power is the momentum of the charge. even unarmored cavalry could charge down russian infantry at eylau, at the speed of a fast-walk until they lose their momentum to canister shots and withdrawn.

The more I learn about the lady of Orleans, the more I’m coming to figure out, she was far more than a figure head who just waved a flag to inspire troops. She seemed to know strategy and well versed in battle. It’s taken a while, but putting the pieces together, she was the hero that France didn’t deserve, considering what they did to her after…
