  • Heres the background theory on how to fix extremely orange bleached hair. Here's some hair tips where I go through the level system and teach you how to get your exact desired color level. Whether you need a semi permanent color to tone down harsh orange tones or you need to do another lightning process to get you
    #bleached #orange #hair
    There seem to be a little confusion as to when it works to Tone hair and when you need to apply bleach and color in order to get your desired tone and level, So I made this video using my hair color swatches to explain the process and when to do what. I explain how toners don't work on orange hair and only on blonde hair which is only slightly brassy. I explain the levels if the hair for better understanding if what you need to do. Hope this helps and may you have the perfect tone at any level you chose.
    This should, hopefully, make the theory a little more easy to understand.

      How did the bleaching go? What volume did you use and how many processes to lift the colour to level 9/10 (I'm assuming)? Also, what toner did you use? How about root tap/shadow for that pesky growth down the line?

    @embot5000 Před 4 lety +10

    Extremely well-put and informative! You're such a resource to the community. It's impossible to fit everything in one tutorial, let alone realize that people will need/prefer different toners based on their skin & eye undertones. Not everyone will necessarily look great with an ashy tone, as you mentioned. I love your toner video. It's the formula I use on myself, because it works for my coloring. It was thoughtful to present this follow-up to clear confusion. Once people recognize not only the underlying pigment of each level, but also their own Dominent Underlying Pigment (for example, I tend to "pull" a bit golden, even at a level 10. Others can pull red, orange, or if they're lucky... neutral!), then they can formulate a toner mixture that will best serve them,

      She REALLY emphasizes that it's "...ugly...horrible...disgusting..." It's f-up for a beauty professional to express revulsion for a color of hair lots of people got by mistake and don't have $$ to get fixed (so they watch this hot garbage and feel even uglier) OR they LIKE, got on purpose. A professional says neutral phrases like "more red tone" or "reduce warm appearance.' Never use demeaning words about a client, they won't come back.

It most definitely adds up and so those who cant invest my GOD- don't feel bad! So for all those who "at Home" bleach/tone -this is the IT video for info! You go above and beyond to not only explain but demonstrate (making it visual and so much more helpful as well to top it off!) I absolutely commend you for doing this because it just blows my mind how little some know about the processes and not to lack of intelligence but just a simple lack of education of the processes/subject. I went to the most high end salon in my town, to go from very intense dark red to blonde when I went they told me they can’t do it once and I have to go multiple sessions. I said ok and asked if it would be ready for my birthday which was something like a month away and they said “Sure, you will just have to do the therapies that we suggest also, so we won’t damage your hair.” I was okay with that since they guaranteed that they were experts and they will do it for sure. Sooo, the kind of blonde I wanted was an ashy one very light. After I don’t even know how many sessions and wasted money and going around looking like a HOT MESS it was the time for my appointment before my birthday which the hairstylist said that it would be the last because my hair would turn out the desirable color. Before going I was so skeptical about it because I could see that my hair was way too dark ( and orange) for that but I was like, whatever he knows better... I went they fried my hair LITERALLY and it turned out mustard with orange and kind of green on it. A DISASTER, so as he was getting my hair dried I thought well he is not blind he will fix it and he turns to me and says we are done. I was like but this is nowhere near the color I wanted, is awful and my hair is waaaay too damaged and he said this is exactly the color you asked and he had other hairdressers who worked there to come and tell me the same exactly think treating me like I was crazy and I didn’t know what I was seeing telling me that it’s only the lightning and I will see it when I get out.

      Relle Laron I’ve waited almost 4 yrs to go blonde again and I had cutted my hair very short. Now my hair is amazing and I was ready to go blonde but I did not want to go to a hairdressing salon because I don’t trust them anymore. I bought everything myself spend also a fair amount of money in therapies for after bleaching and I did it myself. It turned out awful my roots are white and the rest is very dark orange I have no idea what to do and I’m scared to go to a salon .. I hope a second bleach will fix that mess.

      As a professional I know to explain to a client that as a natural brunette their is a 70% chance the hair will end up on a very brassy hair color and more then likely I will need to reevaluate the hair and repeat the entire process the hair again at thier cost.. and should the hair contain previous color I will need to tone that color at the that level

    I started with light ash brown hair with a couple inches of root growth that was showing a lot of metallic silver gray , (about 2/3 gray), which is my natural color now after several years of dying it. Obviously I have way more gray hair than I started with years ago. I was contemplating going natural and letting the gray grow out completely however my husband and daughter weren't ready for me to go gray yet so I dyed it as usual.
    Apparently Clarol Nice and Easy has recently changed their formula and using the same color I have been using for years, ( Light Ash Brown), is now closer to a Medium, bordering on a Darker ash brown! I was shocked how dark it came out but my husband seemed to like it so I let it go and moved on like nothing happened.
    Fast forward several weeks and my silver gray was beginning to peek through again and so this time I decided to do blond highlights to break up the dark color a bit... They turned out orange... and since the kit had one of those stupid caps that you pull pieces of hair through, I ended up having the majority of the top layer of my hair being orange, with all the hair underneath being the darker brown color! My husband almost fainted at the sight of me!... So back to the proverbial drawing board I went to try to salvage what I could by using Wella T18 Toner I had on hand in the hopes of bringing down the "brassiness"! IT DID NOTHING AT ALL! In my desperation I put on a baseball cap and went to the nearest store to get a permanent color from Loreal in Dark ash Blond, now being afraid of Clarol, hoping that it would even out the color and give me something closer to a light ash blond.... and would you believe it.... My hair turned completely orange! LOL! If you didn't know better you would think I was born a RED HEAD! my husband HATED IT ... as did I! I also ended up burning my scalp so badly that my scalp was weeping and ended up scabbing all over! Chemical burns from too many processes in one day? Chalk it up to a lesson well learned!
    I had to wait for my scalp to heal for a week before trying anything else! If it wasn't so damn funny I would CRY!
    So today I went to Sally Beauty Supply and the girl there hadn't the first freaking clue what she was talking about and recommended Wella T28 Toner which is a warmer blond! Thankfully I ignored her and bought the T14 instead! I let it process for the full 35 minutes and the final result ended up dark blond and is no longer orange, but is still a bit on the brassy side! At least I can go out in public without looking like a clown however, I am at a complete loss and cannot explain what the hell went wrong and how to get to a nice cool / ash blond! I have done blond highlights many times in the past with great results! I used Clarol blond highlights / frost kit, which is not my normal brand for highlights! The liquid consistency should have been a dead giveaway that it would be a gamble - MY BAD! LOL
    Should I chalk this up to a fluke or user stupidity? Does this have anything to do with the metallic silver hair I have? I have been noticing that the gray I have has been becoming more and more resistant to color over the years, especially around my temples. No mater what brand of permanent dye I have used it remains a metallic silver white color.
    After this debacle I am extremely tempted to give up and go to a salon!
    Sorry for the long story! Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks

    @daniellehess8333 Před 9 lety +201

    You absolutely can tone ANY shade of hair- if you want to keep your hair a level 7 for instance but it's too warm, you go on the color wheel and neutralize out the underlying pigment that's left on a level 7 ( which is red, orange or a reddish orange, meaning if you put a color with a blue base or even blue violet base) you'll get a toned level 7. If your at a 4, 5 or 6 level you'll usually add blue/green or violet or a combination of all 3 to neutralize out that warmth. The color wheel is your best friend, any shade opposite will cancel out the pigment that's unwanted.. The underlying pigment in a level 10 blonde is pale yellow, and the color opposite yellow on the color wheel is violet so if you put violet over blonde it will get rid of that yellow.. The pigment that's left at a level 8 is orange, blue is across from orange on the color wheel so putting blue over that level 8 will get rid of the orange. Etc, etc, if this confuses someone then I strongly recommend going to a color specialist, it is WORTH the money to get it done right 👍😉. I am a licensed colorist also and I do more color corrections because ppl try to color at home and it goes horribly wrong.. You can usually go darker at home and be ok but trying to lighten your hair at home with a boxed dye or any color even from a beauty supply store is probably going to result in a non desirable result, color won't lift color so if you have colored your hair previously and want to go lighter, color won't do it you need to bleach, I suggest seeing a professional if your going lighter..

      I made my own tonER out of purple veg dye and silicone free conditioner. I used MANIC PANIC with an organic all natural brand of conditioner. I would apply to DRY hair 2-3x per week until I had the platinum shade I wanted then maintained with purple shampoo. My hair was more yellow than orange but my hair loves to hold onto gold orangish tones. I would get compliments all the time and I finally had the color I wanted! The lady who makes these videos probably had a better answer for you but that worked for me and one bottle of purple lasted a long time so it was cheap fix. Good luck to you!

    I can see why this video was so popular, its the most intelligent hair color video I've ever seen! I guess I'm still confused as to whether I should "tone" or "bleach" to get rid of the red tones in my hair. I have brunette hair that turns blonde naturally in the sun, however, lately I've been seeing grays in the crown area of my hair. So I bought a box of "neutral" blonde hair dye from Vidal Sassoon (over the counter) and it left the small areas I colored a strawberry blonde color. A month later, I used "color oops" to try and remove the red, which got rid of about 1/4 of the redness. I waited another month, reapplied the color oops, and now the red is about 1/2 gone. Essentially the area I colored is now blonde with light strawberry blonde highlights. Now my hair is pretty dry and having breakage issues. In my case would you consider this the kind of "brassiness" that a toner can remove, or would it be the kind of "reddish orange" that needs to be masked with semi-permanent hair color in a light ash blonde? Also, if you do use semi-permanent color, is the whole goal to protect your hair while masking the red until its healthy enough to bleach again to get the color from red to blonde?

      That means your hair was to dark when you dyed it. You have to bleach to get the hair to go lighter and use lots of coconut oil after and lost of deep conditioners. Im stuck in that stage right now. Last time i decided to be a blonde, I had to bleach twice and use ash blonde toner to get the bright yellow blonde to a more ash blonde color. It looked amazing. I loved it. Im just taking my time because my hair is curly and I dont want to fry it. Hope everything goes well for you.

    • @samanthadavis4094
      @samanthadavis4094 Před 6 lety +5

      That is because in your case you had dark hair and you only bleached once, and blonde toners only work on dark hair that has been processed (bleached) twice. I am in that stage right now because I didn't want to damage my hair by bleaching twice in one day. My hair is currently banana yellow (it was an awful orange but I toned some of that out), but I've been covering it up with hats and deep conditioning until I'm ready to bleach and tone with Wella T18 to get the ash blonde I want.

Or piss yellow with hints of brassyness it can help.(brassy meaning like when yellow and orange kinda start to blend if your looking at spectrum.. Its NOT orange.. But yellow with hints of orange starting to come through..) I dont even know if that will make sense to anyone. Ha not good at describing it.

      McKenzie Malmos the toner isn’t actually lifting color out of your hair, it’s getting deposited over the color that’s already there and neutralizing the color. Your hair is likely at the highest level (10+) but you just have residual pigment from either your natural hair color or previous hair colors you’ve done. When you apply a cool toned toner over a warm toned color, you’re not actually taking the warm toned out of the hair, but it’s almost like when you use color corrector on your face when you’re doing your makeup. You still have dark circles/blemishes, but you’re putting something on top of them that hides them. Does that make sense?

    Thank you for sharing about the demi-permenate color option. I want to give my hair a rest and then beach again in a month. This helped so much. :)
