Don't worry, I understand what you thought. Well, Memory Garden isn't unique in the sense what we think when saying "something is really unique" but they have done some unique songs. However, they are great, even if they are unique or not. Heathendom is a very good band as well and I do have their debut album Nescience in my collection. I guess, I should check out the second one as well..?
I can see the KD references, but its only the voice. Attic is something unique and i prefer them to KD.

Great band, Mercyful Fate/King Diamond/Tim Ripper Owens, with some NWOBHM in there too.
And yeah, I realize they aren't trying to do their stuff better than King Diamond himself. As a huge KD fan I would like to meet those Attic guys and drink some beer with them... I appreciate their stuff even I don't consider them to be original or unique.

Serriously. Anyone who doesn't hear the King Diamond/Mercyful fate influences here are either deaf or in heavy denial.
Give me good modern heavy metal bands who are completely original. Most new Heavy Metal bands draw many influences from many bands but just because the influences with bands like Attic and Portrait are very very clear doesn't mean they are bad. Nobody is trying to do this better than King Diamond himself so stop comparing them.

Yeah, I think any new band thinking they can do KD/MF better than KD/MF is on the wrong path since King Diamond as an artist is virtually untouchable. Also, now that I remember, check out Arrayan/Arryan Path aswell, an amazing Power/Heavy/Doom metal band from Cyprus, the best album being Terra Incognita, which will stick in your head for days after listening to it, I shit you not.

WAS too close for comfort to me...then I listened with my major King fanacism ears, and it is definitely NOT exact, but a nice tribute. Like Thulcandra to Dissection, or Usurper to Celtic Frost. The more of this style, the better! \m/

i thought it sounded like Mercyful Fate BEFORE i heard him do the King voice hahaha.... but seriously, i reckon this is pretty good. More bands should rip off good bands instead of ripping off their immediate peers and shit bands.
MF/KD worship isn't necessarily a bad thing, as long as it's done right and it doesn't become annoying, which isn't the case with Attic, they know what they want to do and do it masterfully, the lack of much originality means very little when the execution is this good.

Well, I didn't mean there are many completely original newer heavy metal bands as almost everything in that genre has been done before in a way or another. However, for example a band called Memory Garden (Swe) is quite unique in my opinion even they have taken influences from Black Sabbath & Mercyful Fate, from doom & power metal, but still they sound unique and fresh.
But hey, I don't care if Attic is original or not as they still kick some serious ass. Sorry to be too rude. Cheers, dude! \o/

Yeah, The Symbolist is more dense and is more Power Metal than Nescience, it's more streamlined for sure, I can't say it's better or worse than Nescience, it's different but it's still a very good album for what it's worth.
I seriously don't get why the hell everyone's bitching around that they're "clones"? I mean name ONE band (except for the absolute pioneers of their genres) who didn't copy elements from other bands and took quite a while to develop a very own unique sound and I admit defeat. And what else should they play? If they played modern metal everybody would complain that this wouldn't be metal...

I think we'd all be happy if they just gave credit to Merciful Fate. When movies are based off a novel for example they always mention it was "inspired" from novel when they mention the title of the movie, so should be written on the cover of "Join The Coven". Otherwise this is border-line plagiarism and metal fans see that and are reacting (fairly and justly in my opinion).

i love MF/KD, and have fallen in love with this band (who, in case of interest, sounded like MF/KD from day one...).

Memory Garden is great but not really unique either, they just play with their influences a tad more and try to make something not as overly done as, say, KD/MF worship, given that we are talking about Attic after all and I'm sorry I snapped at you but I thought you were just another "this is new therefore this is subpar and does not deserve my time" kind of guy. If you like Memory Garden, you should check out Heathendom, another accomplished Power/Doom band who also sound pretty refreshing
in a way all music is a clone or an amalgamation of clones of something, but for me, if new music is going to be interesting, I need to be able to hear more than just one influence otherwise you end up sounding like a worn out photocopy...of a musical sort

Alright, and where is the difference between the singing style of king diamond and the attic singer?! It`s completly the same in my opinion.... To your first paragraph: stricktly speaking your message is true, but the difference is that all of these bands has very typical singers, and thats an important point what makes a band individual. And read my friend I didn`t say that attic isn`t individual, I said that they are not individualistic enough, thats a difference

Really like the chorus on this, but some of the vocals actually make me cringe, and sound more like someone trying to sing like Mickey Mouse than Rob Halford, King Diamond or Midnight. The vocalist has a pretty decent midrange though, and needs to use it more.

Attic are individual and everybody with sense for music hears that.
They aren't unique at all. King Diamond has done this stuff A LOT better. However, despite Attic is "just a clone" I do enjoy this song. Good band, just not unique.
