Things to do in the St. Croix Virgin Islands:
    1. Snorkel Buck Island
    - Hours: Open Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 6:00pm & Sundays 8:00am - 5:00pm
    - Cost: $75.00 per person for ½ Day (9:00am - 1:00pm)
    - Total time: roughly 3.5 - 4 hours
    - Website: www.bigbeards.com/
Booked directly through Big Beard’s Adventure Tour. Ride a 42’ power catamaran to Buck Island & snorkel the underwater trail through the reef. Then relax at Buck Island’s Turtle Beach. On the ride home, enjoy Mutiny Island Vodka & Fruit Punch.
    2. Kayak the Salt River Bay
    - Hours: Open Daily, 7:00am - 9:00pm
    - Cost: $50.00 per person for ½ day tandem kayak
    - Total time: 4 hours (1/2 day)
    - Website: seathrukayaksvi.com/
Booked directly onsite. Seathru Kayaks offers options of tours as well as rentals to kayak the Salt River Bay. Enjoy kayaking through the mangroves, spotting the comb jelly fish, and seeing the historical landing site of Christopher Columbus. Seathru Kayaks offers a highly rated, one-of-a-kind night bioluminescent tour (although this was not available
during our stay). The owner, Ryan, was very friendly and accommodating and adjusted our rental price as we were not able to take the kayak for the full ½ day rental.
    3. Hike the Jack & Isaac Bay Preserve Trail:
    - Hours: Open Daily (No set hours)
    - Cost: Free!
    - Total Time: Up to you!
    - Website: www.gotostcroix.com/st-croix-...
Start at East end Side of Point Udall where you’ll see a trailhead. Hike a 3.6 mile out and back trail along the coast. This hike is moderate. Be sure to wear your swimsuit and bring gear as you’ll be able to stop at the secluded Isaac Bay and snorkel! Bring plenty of water and sunscreen as there is no shade.
    4. Annaly Tide Pools
    - Hours: Open Daily (No set hours)
    - Cost: Free!
    - Total time: Up to you once you’re at the tide pools. Hike takes roughly 1- 1 ½ hour(s),
    Off-roading takes about 45 minutes
    - Website: www.gotostcroix.com/st-croix-...
We decided to off-road to the tide pools in a rented Jeep versus hiking from the Carambola Resort. If you decide to hike, you can park at the Carambola Beach resort and hike 2 miles to the tide pools. If you choose to off-road the trail starts in Annaly. The earlier you go, the better and less likely to have others around.
NOTE for Off-roading: 4x4 vehicles only! Use caution, this is not a beginner trail.
    5. Sunrise at Udall Point
    - Hours: Open Daily (No set hours)
    - Cost: Free!
    - Total time: Up to you!
    - Website: www.gotostcroix.com/st-croix-...
We arrived at Point Udall just before 6:00am and there were not many people there yet. You can park along the side of the sundial and sit along the stone wall to watch the first sunrise of the United states. Don’t forget your coffee!
    Wilson’s Tips for St. Croix:
    1. Rent a car (But be sure to review the local traffic laws, example, they drive on the left side of the road in St. Croix!)
    2. Frederiksted is a great place for shore snorkeling! There are many spots along the West End Bay, Frederiksted Pier and Rainbow Beach.
    3. Eat at the Buccaneer Hotel for the amazing breakfast buffet, roughly $35.00 per person.
    4. Don’t spend all your time in one place, explore both sides of the island.
    5. Friendly Reminder: Be sure to bring reef-safe sunscreen (it will be more expensive on the island).
    Bonus things to do:
    1. Explore Fredericksted & Christensted. Be sure to explore both cities as each come with their unique history, local cuisine and culture.
    2. Off-road. We decided to off-road to the Annaly Tide Pools versus hiking which was an adventurous experience! You must have a 4x4 vehicle to make it successfully through this trail. Please use caution!
    3. Trash pick-up. Be sure to bring eco-friendly trash bags to pick up trash where you explore and help us leave the places we visit better than we found it!

      @CastawayEscapes  Před rokem +1

Hey, thanks for the compliments! Yes, we use a GoPro for most of our footage. I believe this video was filmed with the 9 and we use the DJI Mini for drone shots. You are correct, the off road trail leads to Annaly Bay. Definitely one of our favorite tide pools we’ve visited yet and fun to get to. You can also hike from the Carambola Resort. The hike is approximately 2 miles long and takes most people about 1-1.5 hours one way. It took us 45 mins one way in the Jeep. Just make sure you have a 4x4 vehicle if you decide to go that route. The trail gets technical at times and we saw the remnants of many non 4x4 vehicle parts that no doubt got stuck and needed assistance to get out. Thanks for watching!

Be EXTREMELY careful at the tidepools. My brother was recently knocked over by a wave and sucked into a blowhole. He was battered and beaten and only by the luck of God was saved. Had to be life flighted by the Coast Guard to the hospital where he spent 4 days in the hospital. He is a marathon runner and hiker and it still almost killed him.

We actually rented an Airbnb with a local woman who rents the second floor of her place. There are great things to do in both Christiansted and Frederiksted, but the island is so small its not hard to bounce around. I'd say go with the lodgings you like best. Everything else is just a short drive away.

You can hike it on your own, don't really recommend taking a rental Jeep down there, especially if you're not a reasonably experienced off-highway driver (not your vehicle to scratch & dent). There are parts of vehicles that didn't make it strewn along the sides of the trail. I take guests on Tan Tan Jeep Tours (not scratching up my $50k+ Jeep, I'll drive when I have my 'bush Jeep' ready to roll), either the tide pool only or the half day tour since I show them the south shore & Point Udall after I pick them up from the airport on the way home (we moved here about 2 years ago). We were on Caribbean Life S17:E6 "Off The Beaten Path"

Can you live there year around,or do you have to come back to the up state

    • @lorimichelle9995
      @lorimichelle9995 Před 2 lety +4

It's a US territory so you can live there, but as a native I don't recommend just moving there without visiting a few times first. Common misconception that it's all beaches and palm trees. Our home is being overdeveloped by greedy tourists and ravaged by hurricane after hurricane with no help from the government following these natural disasters. Statesiders who move there rarely contribute by supporting local businesses and instead build mcmansions on acres and acres of beautiful land that they only live in as a vacation home, pushing locals out of our own areas and astronomically raising the price of housing for those who already struggle to make ends meet. Often jobs will be offered to transplants from the states instead of Islanders more qualified for the job. Our people turn against each other and act out violently while the people sucking up our resources relax on their own private beaches. PLEASE do research before just moving there. Just friendly advice from a Cruzan girl 😊
