I don’t drive unfortunately but I do purchase cheap day tickets from Stagecoach that allow me to travel around East Kent and East Sussex freely. My personal faves are from where I live in Whitstable to Canterbury then I take a 1x to Ashford, a 2 via Tenterden to Hastings then a 100 or 101 to Rye, 102 to Folkestone via the coastal route then a 17 via Elham back to Canterbury then the Triangle back to Whitstable or I’ll do it the other way round with a few different permutations. That costs me a fiver for usually an 8 hour or so round trip and all I see is the beautiful Kent coast and countryside. I’ve only just discovered your channel and I’m loving the content and your very calm delivery. #Subbed. Also if you have a spare minute try filming the steam train journey’s between Tenterden and Bodiam and the Hythe to Dungeness steam railway… both very special! Have a great Jubilee weekend!

With our little road trips I do try to make them cycle & rail friendly, I need to look into the Stagecoach option too. Both our parents live in Beltinge, so not a million miles away from Whitstable, and Janis's parents love using the bus to get around. (I think that's their free bus pass though - they love a bargain) Anyway, back to the latest video, over in the wilds of west Kent. Thanks. it was like going home, we gave up the Marsh, having lived in Tenterden (another cinque port) Hamstreet and Smeeth, 34 years ago for the snowbelt of Canada in the middle of the Great Lakes. I happened upon on your road-trip as I'd just finished Malcolm Saville's The Gay Dolphin Affair, a 1945 children's adventure story which celebrates the Marsh, Rye and Winchelsea and its history of smuggling and the sea. As a boy I loved Patrick McGoohan"s starring role in The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh. Next time you're in Winchelsea, you might look for Spike Milligan's grave, with the cryptic inscription ( in Latin) on the headstone, "I told you I was ill."

I last saw him in 2003 at the Wittersham village fete, which he was opening. He said “programmes are 50p, except for Darren- they’re £5. Roger, another of those pubs that's been lost over time? I have had an idea, I might start another channel taking a look at pubs, breweries, vineyards, etc; focusing on the more unique places rather than the bigger chains. What do you think? I can think of a few on and around Romney Marshes that will be worth exploring - just need to get the idea past Janis. 😊

Dungeness is such a remarkable place - if you were dropped blindfolded and then allowed to look, you'd know where you were as it's so characteristic and different - yes, lovely. Quite wrong that they were allowed to build a nuclear power station next door - a totally insensitive development. There must have been loads of old industrial sites that would have done the job. But we must enjoy the enduring beauty of the buildings and people of Dungeness.
Hi Nigel, Yep, you'd know Dungeness anywhere - (Well, those of us who know it) As for the building of a Nuclear Power Station; I guess that was the world in the late '60s. Monstrosities in architecture, Britain still reeling from the costs of World War II, the loss of Empire, and an urge to be modern. I guess then a remote corner of Kent seemed a logical place. With the M20 motorway a distant thought that area must have been even more isolated. Still, that area will be cleared over the future decades.

Great video. Relaxing delivery and nicely edited. One fact: Maps of Hamstreet featured on a set of UK postage stamps to mark 200 years of the Ordnance Survey in 1991. I videoed the B2067 road to Lympne myself so if you fancy a slower journey.., I'm going to check out part 1 now 👍

I should warn you it may not be until Spring of 2022. It should be the best time to capture the landscape around the Churches too. It's all a matter of time, and the right weather.

When you went through Court- at -Street the lane on the left is Harringe lane and there used to be a pub on the corner called the Wellcome Stranger.
