This is from their 3rd album, Check Your Head. After the sampling kerfuffle over Paul’s, they went back to playing their own instruments, and then sampled that for the beats. Also, speaking of gratitude, check their song, Gratitude! Also off of Check Your Head.
The joke is the life is a commercial with the Volkswagen logo spinning right in the middle of the video. They got paid for that
The Beasties don't have a genre. They ARE a genre. RIP MCA
FACTS. RIP MCA🙏🏽❤️
Special section in my library. This one knows.
Typical day in 1986: Listen to Beasties all day on the Walkman, go home and watch Bird lead the Celts on local TV. Good times.
I gots too for sure
@@JenSell1626 Bra I didn't even have a VCR until 1988
That was EXACTLY my life then too. Man I wanna go back lol.
This was 90 to 92, off check you head (didn’t look it up) might be off I’ll communication a year or so later. They always has a rad Rap…punk/rock vibe to them. But think about RUN DMC, there was a lot of the same stuff going on musically. Tribe and De La flipped the script on sampling and layering it on. I’m probably wrong.
@@marshalloram1999 Run DMC worked on the sick backmasked beat on Paul Revere so the answer to the discussion of who was first is “yes”
Rest in Peace to the great MCA.
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
🙏🙏😢
you need to check out professor booty...mca just KILLS it in that song!!
🙏🏽🙏🏽‼️‼️
@@StaxReactsYeah! Professor Booty is one of my top faves. This is a great one too. I spent a lot of time with this album when it came out. It's all good.
Man these Beastie Boys reactions are making me fall in love with these songs all over again.
I’m so glad they are🙏🏽🙏🏽
"Fight For Your Right" is the song that introduced the Beastie Boys to the world. If you haven't heard it yet, that needs to be next.
Bettttt
"She's On It" from the Krush Groove soundtrack has entered the chat ..
@@RysterARCEE She's, she's, she's on it...
Definitely one of my favorites of theirs. Dope af
And their music videos never disappointed!
🔥🔥🔥
Check Your Head was when they started playing their own samples more often. Mike D played that echoey drum beat sampled in this track and MCA played upright AND electric bass (with terminator switch). Adrock might have done that fuzzy distorted guitar riff as well. This album was complete fire. Headcan candy🎧
🙏🏽🙏🏽‼️‼️
Of course I love Paul’s Boutique but Check Your Head has always been my favorite.
Bars ! Bars !
🙏🙏🙏
No other group could kick it back and forth with such flow. They had the integrity and mutual respect to pull off what most acts could only dream of. Because they weren't in it for fame. They were in it because it was all they knew.
Most of the drums on the track were played live at their old studio called G-Son. MCA (RIP) was the group's bassist, but played guitar on several songs over the years including this one. 6:22 Yauch is playing guitar through a Terminator pedal, it sounds so wild. 0:51 this is a Bad Brains sample of a song called Big Takeover. They're a huge influence on Beastie Boys, they're a Jamaican hardcore band, check 'em out. Love the video!
Thank you for telling me🙏🏽
If you liked this check out “Finger Lickin’ Good” Homeboy.
It’s FIRE AF too!
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
i've seen a few of your videos but hadn't yet subscribed....until today. when you said this is your favorite group now, i subscribed. i think you like all the right things about the beastie boys.
RIPMCA
Thank you so much 🙏🏽
That’s love❤️I love a challenge hahaaaa
I'm sure you've already heard, BUT...
B-boys started as a punk rock group, as such, they play their own instruments on most of the tracks. A great example is SABOTAGE on the David Letterman show, a must see.
🔥🔥‼️
I was at a show in Manhattan on this tour. (Check Your Head tour) Was one of the best shows I have ever seen.
Yeah caught em in Cali a few times on this tour. Very memorable.
Must’ve been amazing
Alive by Beastie Boys is one that doesn’t get enough credit, the way they ride that beat
I’ll check it out 🔥🔥
I’m so glad that you decided to do a reaction channel and that you have discovered the Beastie Boys.
Awww thank you Jennifer 🙏🏽
The video is home-made 90s brilliance. The car reflection shots kill me. They developed into classy fellas after their wild License to Ill days.
And they will never 'split up." You can feeling the love between these kindred souls in every song - not one do they throw shade at each other.
For more fun, uplifting Beasties, check out Alive.
🙏🏽🙏🏽will do for sure
This video was shot at their studio in Los Angeles. Sabotage was shot around this same building.
Amazing 🔥
Aw yeah. Might as well jot "Skills To Pay The Bills" down on your list, too. Keep 'em coming, Stax. We love you lovin' 'em as much as you love 'em.
Thank you so much, I appreciate you for supporting 🙏🏽
ImNow it’s time to start their first album released in 86’ .. licensed to Ill .. I was a Junior in HS. I am 55 . I’ve had this in Album, Cassette Tape , and at least 3 times on CD. It’s in my car as we speak . ( sitting next to Paul’s Boutique 😉) yes I still listen to CD’s in my car 😬 Cant wait !Let’s go!! ⭐️
🙏🏽🙏🏽🔥🔥
Top notch reaction, yet again! You said it perfectly. The transitions in this track are just next level...mind numbingly, chaotically, confusing but in a good way!
Thank you so much man; I greatly appreciate you ❤️🥺
Mowing down mcs, like I'm mowing a lawn. Last Monday night, my brother found my cassette tape of Beastie Boys Check Your Head. The whole album is 🔥. You should check out their album Ill Comunication.
🔥🔥🙏🏽
Bro im gen x. I’ll be 50 this summer. Im ABSOLUTELY digging seeing u discover our old skool fire. I grew up in inner city atl as the random little white guy. I memorized ALLLLL these albums. Kept me from getting my ass kicked sometimes! 😂😂😂
Love & respect young brother. Keep hip hop livin
🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
Fire 🔥
‼️🔥🙏🏽
Youbshould listen to a whole album, uninterrupted. The beasties cultivate vibes and the flow on the transitions between tracks makes it that much better.
Gotta get that gestalt.
💯💯🔥🔥
Beastie Boys are the Beatles of hip hop. The most creative. The most eclectic. The most diverse. No nwords. They were proper musicians and innovators. Fat beats and quotable rhymes. Simply the GOATs of hip hop. No one else even comes close, including Wu-Tang and Kanye. And they're in the running for greatest American band of all time too.
🔥🔥🐐
My all time favorite Beastie Boys song
🔥🔥🙏🏽
Pretty much reliving my middle school years watching you discover all these old school Beastie Boys songs 🙏
Glad were able to time travel together 🙏🏽
@StaxReacts keep'em coming!
Make Some Noise
Too Many Rappers (feat Nas)
Slow Ride
My favorite Beastie's album.
🙏🏽🙏🏽🔥🔥
Great reaction Stax 🔥🔥 They were 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you so much, this was amazing🔥🔥🙏🏽
gotcha : one of my favorite track of B-Boys! Always surprises with this guys 👌
Betttt
Straight banger! After seeing them a couple of times in concert, they definitely one of my top 10's.
🔥🔥‼️‼️
First time I saw them was the tour for this album. I think that was 1992. Saw them at the PNE in Vancouver. I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this to you yet, but they actually started as a hardcore punk band before they started rapping. You should check out another song from this album called Heart Attack Man, as it is one of their punk songs. It was awesome seeing these guys on stage switch from rapping to playing some punk songs on their instruments and then switching back to rapping later in the show. They were awesome.
🙏🏽🙏🏽🔥🔥
I know for sure the last beat change is Funkadelic/PFunk. Where it’s black and white on the street. I’m a heavy Parliament/Funkadelic (PFUNK) fan. Check them out. Blow your mind! All those samples!
🔥🔥‼️‼️
Great reaction, man. My favourite Beasties jam.
Thank you so much 🙏🏽❤️
My favorite Beastie Boys song
🙏🏽🙏🏽‼️
i think the thing to remember about old school hip hop is that the MC always went hand in hand with the DJ and the DJ's job was to keep it going but surprise you with unexpected transitions
🙏🏽🙏🏽🔥🔥
Fight for your right was the first Beastie hit. Aslo off the first album, Brass Monkey was huge.
Brass monkey coming soon
This is my favorite Beastie Boys song.
🙏🏽🔥
Huge Beastie fan and this is my favorite 😎
🙏🏽🔥‼️
I remember every time someone upgraded their stereo in their car, Beastie Boys were the go to for testing the bass. 😂 Ahh...Good times!
🙏🏽🙏🏽🔥🔥🔥
🔥OF All TIME!!🔥Welcome to the Club
🔥🔥‼️
Welcome to the Beastie Family! Their creativity is unreal. Check out the bside "Skills to Pay the Bills"
Glad to be here, thank you so much🙏🏽
You GOTTA check 'em out LIVE IN GLASGOW 1999. It will fuck you up!
Will doooo
“Rap” used to be a people’s sermon in the 1960s. Lifting up culture.
🙏🏽🙏🏽🔥🙏🏽
Stax! So glad you did this, love this track! Keep going brother ❤👊
Thank you so much
Great reaction Stax. Keeping it 💯!
Thank you, and that’s always gang💯🐐🔥

Thanks again for getting to this. 10k coming sooner than you think.
Thank you so much 🙏🏽
One of the best
MC tracks of all time! X3

🙏🏽‼️🔥
No mater what type of music you listen to and enjoy, if you don’t like the beasties, you don’t actually appreciate music. ❤️🇦🇺
Pioneers🔥🔥🙏🏽
I just found your channel today. I am thoroughly enjoying watching your face melt while listening to this song and others. It's like I'm listening to it all for the first time again. I'm so happy you're loving them!
So happy you’re enjoying it. Welcome to the family 🙏🏽
SURE SHOT.......NEXT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
🙏🏽🙏🏽‼️‼️
❤❤❤❤ I love this playlist!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🙏
The moment I knew the Beasties were legit technical rappers was when I heard the mashup of the vocal from this with Ghostface's Mighty Healthy beat (on YT if you search), and the whole thing laid over precisely. They were all on beat pretty much every time, even that early in their career.
🔥🔥🙏🏽
I have to Echo your thoughts......The best musical group of all times.
🔥🔥🔥
I've seen a lot of b boy reviews and of this song specifically. I am impressed. You caught a lot of fine details in the song and you were very accurate with your analysis. I was bumpin this in my ride in HS Back in the 90's and you seem to be right here with it today.
Ayeee man I appreciate you, I definitely do my best trying to catch everything. Thank you 🔥🙏🏽
This takes me back to highschool, groups of us just riding around every night in my best friend's car (he has the best system in his car).
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽‼️
You mentioned that they show gratitude…they happen to have a song named Gratitude that is its own genre as well 😂
I have been working my way through your BBoy reaction videos because they are one of my all time favorites in any genre of music. I was hoping you had done a reaction to this particular song because it is my personal favorite. The bass drop in this song is awesome like you mentioned but the bass drop in their song The New Style is one for the ages and totally epic. The New Style came out in the 1980’s which makes the bass drop even crazier because it was literally the new style back then.
Yess I have done the new style already 🙏🏽
@@StaxReactsyes sir, I saw you done reactions to both the songs I mentioned 😂 I’ve watched all your Beastie Boys videos now and subscribed to your channel!
Funny you mentioned the word "gratitude " at the end of this track because they got a song by that very name ! And they all are shown playing their instruments . Gratitude . Check that track Stax !!!!
Already have check the playlist 🙏🏽
The is the appropriate reaction.
Thank you
🔥🔥🙏🏽
LEGENDS
🐐
They are their own genre
Factssss
License to ill was my first CD that I ever got.I was 11 years old
🔥🔥🔥🔥
3:18 Beastie Boys, sample from song Gratitude
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
You had to do a Beastie live too ! Like the 2004 Parisian show or the 99 Glasgow- mad energy.
I will for sure, thank you 🙏🏽
Greatness!
🐐🐐🐐
this is my fav track, glad to see you dug it! hope you keep checking them out, anything off Paul's Boutique album is straight fire
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
80’s90’s rap🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
🔥🔥‼️
Like num 420, naturally
🙏🏽🙏🏽🔥🔥
Hee hee! 6:38 BBs are making Stax give up the ghost. 😂 The song's Intro & Outro killing me! Intro: “Goodness gracious” is what my wholesome boy said 0:48. Outro: they bring out this much-too-short gritty funk at 6:23 that makes me sad the song is ending. Thanks for this one.
🙏🏽🙏🏽🔥🔥
these guys are smart, creative and having fun. Pretty sure they were screwing around in college playing on campus(I think harvard) and everone said to goto cali and you'll be a hit
Their rich ny familys said they quit school and they will take the trust funds and out the will. They left and in the first year they made like 4 million.... That's balls and smarts to make it work. And they play instruments not fake at all. Thanks
Wowww that’s an amazing story, could’ve easily went left but they stuck with it🙏🏽
You mention showing gratitude during your ending comments. Check out "Gratitude" by the Beastie Boys- they agree with you.
Will do for sure
Beastie Boys =The Father's of hip hop
🙏🏽🙏🏽🔥🔥
I’d love to see you react to one of theirs that goes unnoticed called Nonstop Disco Powerpack where they rap literally nonstop from beginning to end without a break, not even for a second
💯🔥🙏🏽
@StaxReacts - Man you should do BBoys 'Stand Together', their most under underrated song IMO, not to be found on any 'best of' compilation (DNW), but probably my favourite Beastie Boys song (together w/ So What'Cha Want) 2:47 mins only and you'll hear, rap, hip-hop, punk, funk, rock, hard rock and electronic vibes, all brilliantly combined in a sort sized crazy power trip
Bet
THEY PLAY ALL THOSE INSTRUMENTS!!! FACTS!
🙏🏽🙏🏽🔥🔥
They do not in fact play *all* of those instruments, just some.
You need to do Hold it now, hit it!
Betttttt
You really need to dip into Camp Lo 'Luchini' ASAP! It's a 90's hip hop banger with maybe the sickest beat ever. I don't think it's been reacted to much, but real Hip Hop heads will be charged up if you hit it! It's a no lose situation.
I’ll check it out for sure
@@StaxReacts I'd never lie to you, it's FIRE!
I second this! Camp Lo is fire especially with Luchini
Grunge, punk and hip hop mixed together
🙏🏽🙏🏽🔥🔥
Professor Booty is a great Beastie song to react to.
Coming sooon
"I've got no time in my life to get uptight y'all" has been how I've lived my life since the day I first heard this lyric.
Check out The Move sometime 😮
🙏🏽🙏🏽🔥that’s the way to be
I'd really like to see you react to one of their instrumentals. That's right, on top of hip hop and punk rock, they also did songs with no lyrics where they just jammed on instruments. Check out Ricky's Theme (my favorite song of theirs) off of Ill Communication. It's a great video as well.
Will do for sure
Okay Mr. Stax since you're already all up in my 1990s CD case--here's some underground stuff that you'd only hear on college radio or word of mouth at smaller venues during this time period:
Band name = "Rise Robots Rise". Genre = experimental hip-hop (it's not like anything else). The only song most people know from them is "If I Only Knew"--and they only know it bc famous singer Tom Jones covered it with a horrible lounge singer treatment (but it was a big hit for Tom Jones). Initial song recs would be *their* original version of "If I Only Knew" or "Talk is Cheap".
Hahahaaaa thank you for all the requests. Greatly appreciated 🙏🏽
@@StaxReacts Beastie Boys are my fav band of all time too (well tie between them & the Neville Brothers who are a whole other vibe). So just trying to give you a window into stuff from that time period that you might also be into. BTW - Beastie Boys started a record label called "Grand Royal" and the 1st group they signed was an all girl band featuring Kate Schellenbach--who was a founding member of the Beastie Boys when they were a punk band. She was their drummer & kind of got dropped from the Beastie Boys when they moved to becoming a hip hop group. Her band was called "Luscious Jackson". They rock too.
Hold it now Hit it ,Slow and Low & She’s Crafty would be 🔥next.
🔥🔥🙏🏽
Yea they did a diss track. Professor booty. They dissed Third Base. I don’t think third base responded. But who listened to them anyway.
Lmaoooooo
Never heard that last beat switch for Mike D's verse. That's video version only, isn't on the album.
🔥🔥🙏🏽🙏🏽
Great reaction! Check out Gratitude next
Will do for sure 🙏🏽
listem to Helloooooooooooooooooo Brooklyn
I already haveeeee
@StaxReacts dopeeee! Ight check out my other fav from beastie boys - Get it together ft. Qtip
I have seen a bunch of these videos and you are about 10 percent of what these guys have done
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
I call that a A.D.D beat, maybe a wondering Beat. I was driving a 85 esscort with to big butt home speakers i stole from my frontroom, all you had to do was just drive and groove, but watch out for those metalheads they will make fun of you.....like i ever cared🎉🎉🎉
🙏🏽🙏🏽🔥🔥
You should react to their Hall of Fame Induction
Will do for sure
told you on this one- check jimmy james next which has a video- i’m trying to get in before you get a million comments- or car thief or high plains drifter are also ones you will eventually hear
