after two more cup cycles its strange to see how badly sequenced the maneuvers were in this cup - they didnt drop the windward foil before tacking.

hes only hired for the big events, He's CEO of North Sails. Hes busy when not skippering the other big races, like Sydney-Hobart.

As a naval architect by training, and having sailed on a Dennis Conners' Stars and Stripes, in the glory days of conventional Americas Cup racing, today's sport has become almost absurdly fringe. BTW, my Stars and Stripes race was with my wife as part of a Cruise Ship tour in St Thomas's harbor against Kookaburra. lost by half a length when another land lubber dropped a line. It's fine to push the boundaries of sailing technology. But. It's so radically different than what was done for a century, that it's laughable. That's not the same race! I suggest it be called something else like The Sponsors Sailing Tech Spectacle Cup maybe. Or S Cubed Cup. Require conventional off the shelf boats for the America's Cup. Just a thought.
The cup since the beginning has always been a "gotcha" race. No cup cycle has every been "off the shelf" if you want that go follow the rolex cup series.

How I miss the true and only America's Cup with monohulls!!! These with the crew wearing helmets and Formula One style drivers have lost the original spirit. Even the America Cup has been reduced to obeying the vile money of the sponsors who want everything fast and everything immediately, sprint races and lots of advertising on the boats. Where will we end up?
No. America's cup has always been about technical innovation and R&D budget. The sailing skills are secondary.
